Band to sleeve to bypass
GlowingGal replied to debd3300's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went to the doc thinking of getting the sleeve. My doc recommended gastric because of my 20 year history with GERD. He said the acids sit in the bottom of the stomach and gastric bypass resolves the issue. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using BariatricPal mobile app -
Weight gain pre op :(
GlowingGal replied to Bombshellkitten's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First of all, congratulations on being a survivor! My husband was also abused from 5 years into adulthood. My weight gain was from severe depression and insecurities. Plus, I love food. It was my best friend, so I thought. My doctor told me I had to weigh at least one pound less than the date we met the first time or my insurance wouldn't pay. I gained during the first four of six monthly visits. I ended up losing the weight I gained and now I'm on my liquid diet and I'm below the cut-off, so I'm good. Check with your surgeon about the weight gain. Docs and insurances are all different. Best wishes to you. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using BariatricPal mobile app -
I'm taking 5 weeks which includes the 3-day Thanksgiving break. My doc recommends 4 weeks, but I have the paid time available, so I'm taking it. I have one more liquid diet week to go. I'm not drinking as much as I should today. I'll work better at it tomorrow. Does anyone have the drain tube? I'm getting one and I heard it floats freely inside and can poke the insides. I meet with my doc in a few days, so I'll be sure to mention my concern. I learned about the tube last week at my pre-op class. [emoji15] Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using BariatricPal mobile app

Question regarding physiological appt?
GlowingGal replied to norahilda82's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
I had the interview with the doctor. She was quite awkward and weird, but I made it through. I completed the online questionnaire, too, and the results showed that I have a tendency to put others first. I had to complete two visits with a therapist to make sure I would take care of myself after surgery. The therapist had full confidence in me after the first few minutes of talking with me. Yes, I'm a mom and my children are the most important thing in my life, so naturally it would appear as though I put them first. What loving parent wouldn't? I also know that I have to take care of myself before I can take care of them. I'm doing that already, but the questionnaire didn't agree. LOL -
I can't take my Tragus out because it's too tight. The nurse told me to let them know when I go in and they will put tape over it. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using BariatricPal mobile app

Anybody on the pre op liver shrinking diet???
GlowingGal replied to juju7's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Day 3 for me. Down 6 pounds. I have a headache, but it's doable. I have prepped for months with my fluid intake, so I don't feel too deprived at the moment. I found a delicious creamy soup that tastes like comfort food, so I'm good. Campbell's Home Style Harvest Tomato with Basil. Also drinking shakes, Poweraide Zero, broth, water, and sugar-free Popsicles for my treats. I'm getting nervous reading about everyone else who's getting nervous, but I'm not backing down. Diets have never worked for me after I turned 30, and this is my only route left. Surgery date: 10/23/17 Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using BariatricPal mobile app -

I really am thinking about you and praying you find relief very soon. I'll let you know how I'm doing in 2 weeks when I have my WLS. By the way, have you felt this way since Day 1 or did it creep up on you?

Average Weight Loss

Maybe I misunderstood my doctor and the info I read. Maybe the 70% is without working out. I am planning on kicking this weight problem in the booty so I can get my nice one back! Thanks for sharing your thoughts SGirl35! You're my new best friend =) -
Everyone: What was your turning point in your life that made you decide the wls route?

Yes, the pain! Sometimes I feel like crying by the end of the night because I've been on the go all day with my job. My sciatic nerve is compromised almost monthly, too. I'm looking forward to losing this weight and never finding it again! -
Are you allowed to take anti-nausea meds?

I'm not patient either. I want to know right now what I will look like in 3, 5, and 8 months! LOL Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using BariatricPal mobile app

I'm 2 week pre-op, so I can't help you, but I hope you resolve the issue soon. Have you spoken to your doctor about it? Is this normal?

Everyone: What was your turning point in your life that made you decide the wls route?
GlowingGal replied to xoxococojay's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I tried all the fad diets, would lose 20 pounds, then hit a plateau. I eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, drink lots of water, but continue to put on the pounds. Of course, my discouragement led me to eat unhealthy foods to "comfort" me. In February of this year, my PCP suggested I consider WLS, but I didn't think it was an option because I didn't think my insurance would cover it. I suppose I should have read my benefits better. I have high cholesterol, sleep apnea, and GERD. I am in higher education and have more than enough degrees to advance my career, but seem to get passed up for those promotions. So to answer your question, the turning point was a combination of gaining an additional 25 pounds in a few short weeks, feeling miserable all the time, embarrassed about the way my body looks (I'm attractive from the first chin up), and the co-morbidities that hold me back from living the life I deserve. I started my liquid diet today and look forward to 3 months from now when I have healed from the surgery and created some sort of normalcy for myself. I'm tired of the appointments, prep, and worry of what to experience immediately after surgery. -
How should I expect to feel immediately after surgery while in the recovery room? Also, what is the leak test and what will I be required to drink while in the hospital? Will I literally feel full after a few sips of water? I've read all kinds of material, but I want real stories. Thank you! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using BariatricPal mobile app

Congratulations! I start my liquid diet Monday. I'm going to stock up on my protein shakes, broth, and other yummy liquids. I'm worried about the nausea of not having solids in my belly. I've been testing my liquid diet this week. I can drink all day until late afternoon, then I feel deprived and nauseated. I can do this!
