    I hate protein shakes

Nah she still thinks she is her puppy size. She tried sitting in daddy’s lap yesterday and barked at him cause she couldn’t fit her whole body. I told him it was totally his fault since his lap didn’t grow with her. 😜

    I hate protein shakes

You know I didn’t even think of the fact that the dog will try to drink from the toilet but won’t try my protein shake. What does she know that I don’t lol.
  3. I agree that different factors like hormones can play a role. I notice I either stall or gain about 2 pounds between when I ovulate and get my period. Afterwards I go back to losing weight. Before my surgery I would gain weight during that time and loss it after my period started. I still crave salty things during that timeframe too. I believe that is so my body can retain more water to cause the unwanted bloating lol. Hope this helps.
  4. When I started the journey I wanted VSG. My surgeon said it was possible but to keep RNY in mind. After going through the upper GI test and an esophagus motility test (which is the worst test I have had so far in my life) it was discovered that I have weak esophagus muscles and GERD (didn’t know). My surgeon recommended the bypass instead to prevent more acid reflux. Per his earlier advice, I had researched both and was okay with his recommendation. I would have liked the VSG, but my body voted bypass. Lol sometimes it not about what we want but what we need instead.

    I hate protein shakes

I loved it. I was cracking up and agreed. The Rover was the funniest as just the other day my cat knocked my protein drink on the floor and my dog sniffed it and turned her nose up at it. I was like “Wow, I’m drinking something my animals want no part of. And they have no problem eating most things. They are smarter than me.” Lol
  6. Check the ingredients on the Tomato soup if it store bought. Several I checked had High Fructose Corn Syrup as the second ingredient and 12 grams of sugar per serving. I couldn’t believe it and have yet to find canned tomato soup (just tomato, not the ones with basil or anything else) that did not have HFCS.
  7. I slept so much in the first week after my surgery, I think I finally caught up on all the missed sleep from having my daughter years ago lol. It’s been 1 1/2 months and there are days I still get tired. My dr said it was normal.

    Eating too fast

That has worked for me too. I started with the spoons when I was in the purée stage. I now use the rest. It does help limit the how much I eat in a bite and how much I eat overall.

    Water intake

I love Powerade Zero, blue and purple are my favorites. I power them over ice, which gives more water as it melts.

    Water intake

I have a similar issue. Little over one month out and I just drink what I can. I did notice the amount I can drink has increased over time.
  11. Hi everyone, I am trying to get my 64+oz of fluids, 50+grams of protein, vitamins, and 4-6 small meals a day. It feels like there isn’t enough time in the day to fit all these things in. (Luckily I don’t have to juggle a job too, just being a mom at home). With no fluids 30 minutes before or after a meal and 20+ minutes for the meal I am spending at least 6 hours not sipping. I have moved (per my nutritionist) on to soft solid food. But my tummy still can’t handle more than a few sips of liquids at a time. I can’t handle regular water, so I have been drinking Powerade Zero. I have tried protein drinks, but don’t really like them. Perhaps due to having nothing but them for too many weeks. My mind screams “no!!!!” when I even think of a protein shake lol. [emoji4] How did everyone else get the required amount of liquids? I am getting between 30 and 40 oz right now. Thanks in advance for your ideas.

    so confused about food...

Thanks for sharing. Mine is similar, however I didn’t get the chart with pictures. That helps.
  13. Thanks for the advice. I was able to drink 10 oz of honeybush tea this morning. I didn’t even realize how much I drank and my tummy was happy with it. The tea is sweet so nothing is needed and the plant is caffeine free. Just water and the tea bag. Yay! Seems like hot is the way to go for me. I was trying cold then warm, and getting nowhere. Now to find some more thinks I can drink hot.

    Recovery Time

I needed more than a week. It’s been 20 days since my surgery and I am just starting to be able to function without getting tired midday. I didn’t have pain, just fatigue at times. Also, trying to get my liquids, meds, and purée foods down on time feels like a full time job. Lol

    Newbie

I was just like you. However, weather made me reschedule the day before (we got 24 inches of snow on my original surgery day lol). The next day was a month later. I found that the extra month allowed me to get me head reset. My husband helped my by telling me not to focus on what I couldn’t have but instead on what I could. I started checking out recipes and such and found that a lot of the things I thought I would not be able to eat I could with some changes. He also allowed me to vent all my fear. If you have someone close to vent to, I strongly recommend doing that. The forum is great for information and support, but it is not the same as having someone who really knows you supporting you. That person can offer better advice for you than we can, since he or she would know your situation better. The 2-week liquid diet pre-op was hard until day 4. I was weak and the suddenly got my energy back. The second time doing it was easier as I was accepting of my surgery at that point. I recommend doing the surgery. However, if you are not mentally ready there is nothing wrong taking extra time to help you get there. I recommend talking to your dr. about your worries. Hope this helps you some.
  16. Not sure if this applies to you. However, my doctor reminded that since I am of “child bearing age” (lol loved how he phrased it) that I might see the few pound weight gain with ovulation and pms. I track my periods and noticed my stall/gain this week is happening during my ovulation time. The gain is less than before, but in the same time frame. I also noticed I felt the same hunger that I have during this time. That helped me not worry about it. It’s just my body doing what it does monthly. Lol

    4 days post op

I too am wanting a scrambled egg and I have never been a scrambled egg person. I felt fine after my surgery on 4/2, just get a little tired in the afternoons.
  18. I am 4 days post op and am getting cold easily. I am staying under a pile of blankets and (to my husband’s delight) making him snuggle me to stay warm when he can. I read this is normal, so I am not worrying. I am just looking for ways to stay warm other than wearing lots of layers of clothes or turning up the heat in the house (oil isn’t cheap lol). Any recommendations are welcome.

    Feeling cold

Oh and “I will hate you until you get a clue and send me something from McDonald’s or Burger King. I am not settling for that healthy food you are sending me. No junk, no heat!” Lol

    Feeling cold

You have to do what is best for yourself. I had a few ppl say the same thing to me. I used to let it bother me until I realized they were using me to talk about themselves and their issues. It is so easy to see our own faults in others (even if it others don’t have them) than in ourselves.

    Feeling cold

    This had me laughing.

    afraid i'll feel hungry

I experienced the same hunger issues and fear during my pre-op diet. Along with the fear I would have the crazy liver that didn’t shrink and on surgery day would be told it was a no go. After a week of the pre-op the hunger feeling kinda went away, but I was still worried. I forced myself through the first week by making sure I stayed busy and wasn’t thinking about food. At home, I “Spring Cleaned” every room. The feelings only came on me when I was doing nothing and was bored. Now 4 days post-op, I had to set reminders to have my purée meals and drinks and medications. I even started writing the times down so I don’t forget. Hope the helps.

    Stomach pressure

I have an incision right where my bra band sits. Just wearing a tank and sweatshirts. At least the cold weather helps me get away with hiding my lack of bra.
  24. This is too early in the am... however happy to be on my way to surgery.

    On my way...

Update: I am home now and happy to be able to sleep in own bed. Thanks everyone for the well wishes.
