  2. To keep myself motivated, I've set myself mini goals:

    • when I get to 85kgs (187lbs), I will enrol in salsa classes and buy myself a new outfit
    • when I get to 75kgs (165lbs), I will buy myself a new ipod, a Nike+ system and 2 new outfits
    • when I get to 65kgs (143lbs), I'll start organising my tummy tuck!

to get to these goals, I will:

    • Exercise (and work up a sweat) at least 30 mins 4 times a week.
    • Eat well and make low fat, low carb, low cal healthy choices, even if I'm not feeling much restriction, even if I'm hungry.
    • Love myself and always remember what I'm doing this for.

I'm putting it out here in black and white so I remember to stay true to myself.

C'mon everyone! What are you mini goals? How are you going to reward yourself for a job well done??

My main goal is to be healthy and use my band as a tool to help me loose weight and eat the right foods and enjoy all the blessings I have in my life.

My ultimate goal is to be under 200 lbs and take my daughter horseback riding on the beach for a day and cherish our time together :)

  3. I know there are tons of posts just like this, but I can't help but shout it from the roof tops!

My docs office called me today and scheduled my consult!! It's NEXT FRIDAY!!!!! I go to an educational thing for 2 1/2-3 HOURS next Thursday, then the consult is the next day!!!!!!!!!!! YIPPEE!

Just a couple more steps and I'm banded!!!

Congrats I am really happy for you

  4. Good moring all! I am a new poster (although I have been lurking here for awhile). After much thought and investigation, I had my band put on Monday, August 4th! It hurts but is getting much better daily (even by the hour). I did not stay in hospital, and was able to sleep in my own bed that first night. I have been trying to stick to the liquid diet (mostly Isopure), but sometimes it is difficult. Getting hungry (I think) As someone else stated here.....hungry and full at the same time....I know what that is! Can't wait to progress to the next stage. I also feel SO tired! I hope that changes as I was planning on going in to work tomorrow for a few hours. I also hope all this is worth it. I hate feeling like this!

Congrats and best of luck to you....Enjoy your new healthier life...

  5. just in defense of that little child. he/she doesnt know better shame on her mom for NOT telling her that God makes us all different but he/she is a child and doesnt know better.

i was almost 300 pounds and my kids have said that about other people not knowing it isnt nice (now keep in mind my kids are about 4-5 when they say something). so i simply tell my kids in plain hearing of the person that it wasnt nice what they said and we dont talk about people unless we can say something nice. and then if that person is looking at me i smile and tell him/her i am sorry.

I agree with you shame on the parents they should be teaching there kids properly..

When my kids were younger and made a comment I would correct them and tell them thats not nice. We are all different and have our own special sizes, colors and hairstyles or accent. God made us all speacial.

So shame on the father for laughing with his son this shows how imature he is one day he may be overweight...

  6. hi i just brought a dvd that is called "walk at home 5 mile walk" i got banded 3 wks ago i want to try it do you think its a good idea to walk that much i am walking alot but not 5 miles also how many calories can you burn walking that much? thanks!!!!

Where did you buy this DVD? I am looking for a cd to listen to while on the treadmill...

  7. After going through all the tests, being pre approved, having the surgery and had my first fill. Now after 3 months post op, my insurance says that the paperwork from the hospital wasn't filled out properly so they haved denied all proceedures! What the <%$*&!!

I have always checked in advance with my insurance and the care coordinator before proceedures to make sure that each process was approved and got confirmation and approvals.

Now, since the insurance company claims "We have previously requested additional information regarding the listed claims. The requested information was either not received, or received incomplete, within the 45 days specified under ERISA. As a result we have processed this claim with the information we have available to us and have determined that NO BENEFITS ARE PAYABLE." They then sent me 2 faxes - claims that I now owe!! One is for the surgery at $53,300.75 and another for my first fill at $1,520.73. Where am I supposed to get that???

I don't understand. I have an HMO, I went to my PCP to get the referral, Everything was approved in advance. How can they now say, "We will not pay" after the fact! If I knew they wouldn't pay in the beginning, I wouldn't have proceeded...but now that I have had the surgery what am I supposed to do??? My husband is afraid we will lose our house over this.

They say that an appeal can take up to 60 days.....what happens if I get turned over to collections before they make their decision! I have worked to hard to have great credit for this to blow up in my face. Even though I have lost over 36 pounds, I am wondering if this surgery wasn't the worst mistake I have ever made for myself and my family. I am afraid that I have put my family in a terrible financial crunch.

Anyone ever had this happen to them? Any suggestions? Any ideas???

My husband and I are devistated!!!!!! :confused2:

Get a lawyer ASAP! protect yourself...

  8. I was banded on May 20th...

:thumbup:The best thing so far has been the way I feel about exercising! I use to hate it- I tried every type and hated all of it... Now I go every day to the gym at work instead of going to lunch (I just eat at my desk now!)

I can swim laps in the pool and not feel like I'm going to have to do the doggy paddle! I can really really swim...

:) The worst thing about being banded is the not being able to drink Diet Coke or anything "bubbly"... LOL Having to remember all the things you can't do- no straws, no soft bread, etc... I'll get use to it, It's only been 2 months!

    Good luck to you!!!

What a possitive additude you have  its great to hear how well your doing best of luck to you

  9. I am just starting the process with the appointments - feeling a bit overwhelmed. Will probably get banded in September. How is going for those who just had the surgery?

I understand how you feel, for the last two month all I did was see doctors but now its all done and my papers are on the way to my insurance company. Hang in there the end result is well worth the time and endless appointments

  10. Okay, so it is twelve thirty at night and I am up rambling around the house. I have only eaten 930 calories today and I am a just a little bit hungry. Should I just go to bed and forget about it or have a planned snack? What would you do in my situation?

    thanks

    I would go to bed.....

  11. Ok, so I went to my Pre-Op class and talk with my surgeon today. Now I am totally discouraged. It's not that me surgeon isn't nice or anything but I guess I should fill you in on the whole story.

So since my BMI is 60 I needed to be on a longer pre-op diet which is totally understandable. So I started on July 9th like they told me and today is the 17th so its pretty much been a bit over a week. Well I have only lost like 3 pounds. Pretty depressing. I was told to drink 2-3 Atkins shakes a day, and have two meals with 4-6oz of lean meat (chicken, turkey, extra lean ground beef, or fish) and green veggies only! If I I feel I need more I can have a cup of fruit...like peaches or pineapple pretty much anything but bananas. So yeah...I did sorta go off a tad the 3rd day and has a tiny salad as my veggie (lettuce only) and like 1tbs of fat free ranch on it. So I am pretty much following it to a T. I even completely cut the soda out even though they said as long as I cut down (and only diet) and completely cut out after surgery I will be fine.

Anywho...enough with the back story...so now my surgeon tells me for the next week and a half he wants me on no more than 800 calories a day with 60g+ of Protein. The Protein isn't a problem but I think its been hell with the 1000-1100 calories a day ive been doing now....what now?!

Anyone have any suggestions of what meals I can have or things what will satisfy me and have like no calories? PLEASE HELP!!!! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! :)

    - Amber

I had to go on a 3 week liq diet, after that and still doing I drink Protein Shakes and one meal a day. I eat chicken stirfry like crazy, hamburger patti with no bread and salad or FF cottage cheese. I eat alot of yougurt (lowfat) and drink Water all day or crystal light. I am very creative with my Protein drinks I mix small ice cubes, milk and choc or vanila Protein powder in the blender and then add SF coffee or Irish cream or Hazelnut Syrup. I might toss in some fruit or yogurt depends on my time limit. I drink this on my way to work and its good and very filling. Hang in there you can do it and look at the long range goal ;)

  12. Ok Oregonians,

Where are you? 77 people have looked at this thread, but only one person has posted. Are you going to let me believe I am out here alone..... What area are you from and when did you have your surgery and where? How are you doing??? Or are you like me and still working on insurance coverage??? I am looking at having my surgery at OHSU anyone have their surgery done in Portland what was your experience like???

I look forward to hearing from you guys, come on don't be shy!!!!

I am in North Bend Oregon and seeing Tersigni

  13. Hi There:

Just wanted to tell you that I just went to Tersigni's office, for an emergency unfil. Had my surgery in Mexico 1 1/2 years ago, had not had a fill for 1 year, but got sick with a terrible cold, and the tissue swelled under the band making it suddenly tighter, couldn't drink or swallow...so called their office, and they took me and I would highly recommend them. The PA, Scott did my unfill and he was absolutely great..got it the first time, and he is the BEST! Please tell him that Sharon, from Bandon told you so. Have not met the Dr. yet, might not, as Scott does all the fills. Just went back in for my fill,( 4 weeks later) Scott did his majic and I am doing great, and looking forward to losing more weight.

Wishing you much success on your journey.

Are you from Bandon? I live in North Bend what a small world

  14. Hello Oregon Bandsters,

Live and coming at ya from Gold Hill, Oregon. I'm scheduled to have surgery with Dr. Tersigni in Coos Bay on June 12, 2006. He is a very nice guy!

Any advice or words of wisdom????? Anyone know or is anyone a local bandster???? Where has the Bariatric support group gone in Southern Oregon????

    C-ya

    Falice

Hi I am from North Bend and I see Tersigni I just finished all my test and the paperwork is off to the insurance company.

  15. I know how you feel!! I am also 2 days post op and feel the exact same. My surgeon and the medical team gave me a free timer to "eat"(liquid meals) and drink. What I do, is every 15 minutes I drink 1 oz of Water (or water mixed with crystal lite) over a 16 hour period (the time your awake during the day). That way, throughout the day I know I am receiving the needed 64 oz. of water a day.

Great idea for maximizing your water intake.
