1. So after about 6-7 weeks, I’m finally on my “ stall”.. now I didn’t have a 3 wk stall. Down about 43lbs and 7 lbs away from the 100’s! However I’ve only lost about 1-2 lbs the last week or two.. major slow down since I’m so early out from surgery. I did increase my calories drastically going from puréed to solids but still not enough to plateau. I heard these are normal? How long do these usually last? Anyone experience a nice drop again from a stall?? Just need to talk this out so I’m not feeling bad that I’ll stay at this weight since I’m not on the heavier side of gastric bypass patients as my doc told me....

  2. I used Quest Protein bars. They have a lot of protein, low sugar, a variety of interesting flavors and have fiber. Fiber is important because one of the problems that arises from time to time is Constipation.< br>

That’s a great point, especially since I’ve been experiencing bad constipation lately myself.. going today to purchase a variety of bars.. I’ve been focusing on lots of Water and I have benefiber powder , although that didn’t seem to help much this weekend when I was desperate. Thank you.

  3. I'm 3 weeks out of surgery and everything I eat is disappointing me. I don't even know what I'm suppose to be eating right now.

I couldn’t agree more. I’m about 7 weeks out and nothing tastes good. Still can’t hold down most things , and on solids now. I’m okay not finding foods appealing. It’s helped my issues with food. I do wish I would enjoy some things, and I know in time I will. You will too. We got this .
Each doctor is different, but mine says to eat anything I want within my 700 cals and 100 carbs. Only I don’t even get in a small fraction of that. It’s fine ... like someone else said, listen to your tummy.

  4. SGirl35 Ha! Well that puts a new spin on things. Now tell me, what woman (especially, what fluffy woman) wants to hang out, just her and her husband with the hot single chick? Hmmm? Inquiring minds and all...

Hahaha! Well! I’m not a flirt, i dress decently conservative and they are also very beautiful women too! So it’s not like they are ugly and I’m the “ hot “ friend.. although I’m the one that looks different.. but they are very pretty too. Plus there is often a house full of people with my friends.. I just don’t have the drama they have. Haha

  5. I am sorry I can not answer your question, because I could not care less if a friend does not want to speak to me for losing weight lol it happens I just move right a long, aint life to short haha. Your ride or die friends will stay with you in different journeys, but let me tell you what I have learnt you lose friends through many changes in life, like when I acquired a disability which did not fit in with some of my friends shallowness they disappeared but hey I went on and made some really good friends. And so will you! Some people cant cope with your new confidence, hey your looking super good and you did before I am sure. But I know people who only make friends with people bigger than them as in the friendship the slimmer party feel they have the upper hand say on nights out with guys etc. silly silly. You have alot to offer people who deserve it [emoji4]

Thank you. I’m 35, and my friends are married with kids. So it’s not about boys or clubs , but yeah they may use the busy card excuse to not have me around as much since most of our hang outs were either ordering take out or eating too much Snacks watching movies... it’s okay. I’m not stressing them anymore. Just sucks you know?

  6. Sometimes I think many people are in denial. They do not want to face the fact that they are overweight. So you may represent someone who has taken the bull by the horns and made changes to your life. They may feel the pressure of making a decision towards the same direction. Some may secretly wish that you fail so that they don't have to feel the pressure.

This is absolutely true. There are many over weight people in my life. I’ve always been the one to do what I say I’m going to do, that being said, they all follow my lead when they see drastic weight loss. As for my friends, they have a few pounds to lose too. So you’re probably right. It might make people feel guilty and uncomfortable that I can’t scarf my face with them anymore all day like we used to!

  7. There is rather an ebb and flow to friendships when you are younger (I'm 65). You each enter and leave different seasons of your life, and the timing is not always perfect.
I think its awesome you have plans to meet new people! You are a very pretty young woman, and it may be that your friends are a tad jealous about your change, but maybe they just aren't sure you are the same person.
As you have new interests, are more active, you will have a group of friends that enjoy the same things, and only know this new, healthier version of you. And hopefully, you will be able to retrieve a few of the old gang.

Thanks so much for the kind words. :)

  8. Don't worry about it. If they have moved on, well, it is their loss. You just need to take care of you right now. It would be nice to have their support, but you don't need it.
People grow apart and move on. It happens to the best of friends. If you were the "token" fat friend, as you stated, you always deserved better anyway.
You are going to do amazing, but stay the same on the inside. You will definitely meet new people that will be a healthy addition to your new lifestyle if you put yourself out there. As other posters stated, support groups are great for meeting people that are experiencing things that you have, are or will experience in the future.
Good luck, and keep up the hard work!

    Thanks so much :)

  9. Sadly, we often out-grow our friends.
My mom always said that we were known by the company we keep. Frankly, if your friends were partiers and have bad eating/drinking habits, it would be like a junkie in recovery still hanging with the junkie friends. Eventually sh*t will happen and you'll end up getting stoned again.
So maybe this is a sign to you that it's time to get new friends. Join a class or classes in fitness related things. Take a painting class or something...do the things you've secretly wanted to, but were too heavy to do.
Doesn't make it any easier. ((hugs))

Oh I never really thought of it this way. Taking fun classes would be a good thing to do. You’re right about friends with different habits than mine. Thank you for your comments.

  10. Hopefully they are just giving you space in which to recover.
But, if it doesn't turn out to be the case, I feel certain you'll make some new friends with whom your new lifestyle will better mesh.
You may find exercise buds, or friends at a bariatric support group. Maybe you'll take up a new hobby..
No matter what, this is your time to work on YOU.

Thank you for your perspective . This is very true and I hope to meet new people in my lifestyle. I’m going to start attending meetings this week, see how it goes..

  11. I’m sure I’m not alone in this as I’ve watched so many YouTube videos of people this happens to. Sadly after surgery , people in my life seemed to disappear. Maybe it’s all in my head and they are just busy? I realize that food is a huge part of life and most social events, but my friends have seemed to ignore me after surgery. Not in the beginning but I haven’t seen any of them 1 month post op.. it seems like everyone wants that “ token fat friend” in their life to make them feel better... I’ve lost about 40lbs, but I’m still the same down to earth girl. Yes, I can’t eat much, but damn... where did everyone go? Hoping it’s all in my head.. I’m never insecure or paranoid.. and if they wanna leave- their loss. I realize nobody secretly wants their friend thinner and more beautiful than them.. oh well. I’m not like that.

  12. I will be one month post op next Friday and haven't returned to work, my follow up with the doctor is this Wednesday some days I feel ok and other days I don't. What does your doctor say about returning to work?

I don’t have my 5 wk apt with my doctor until the first week of November. I’ll see what he says. But regardless I definitely have very bad days. So I’m not ready for work... I think after major surgery it’s okay to take time off , if we have the means to do so.

  13. Had surgery today. So far Jello and juice tastes the same. Let’s see how the shakes taste tomorrow, considering I usually like shakes.

I’m one month post op . Everything taste different. eggs are gross although I can eat egg whites fried. I used to be obsessed with eggs. Forget shakes, they are nasty. Artificially sweetened things like Chrystal light, jello, pudding, etc are now too sweet and have a disgusting after taste. I can do refried Beans and light mozzarella cheese. (A tiny amount that is) Mashed potatoes are still good . Cottage cheese makes my stomach hurt. Most smells make me gag easily. Haven’t obviously tried most foods yet. It should be interesting when I don’t like anything anymore...hopefully I will. I’m afraid to taste other things .. don’t want dumping

  14. I hope your surgery went well SGirl35. MY NSV is being able to cut my toe nails with out pain.
    P. S. what does NSV actually stand for?

Hi there! My surgery went great! I’m down 26lbs my third week post op. I still do feel sick at times and am learning how to eat and drink slowly. I can’t keep too much down though. My NSV would be ; no more back pain, and I can’t leave out that my feet don’t hurt anymore! I had the worst throbbing foot pain in both my feet and now I can walk and run errands without being miserable.
Congrats on your toe nail victory. I hadn’t tried! I just leaned over and saw that Wow I can! However it does hurt my tummy to do much since my incisions are still healing.

  15. While I'm a huge proponent of exercise for all kinds of health reasons and run about 30 miles a week and do 4-5 hours of yoga, most weight is lost in the kitchen not the gym. You can't outrun your fork.

That's not to say you can't lose all the weight you want by working for it, but the work is more diet than exercise. That 70% includes people who workout and exercise.

I do agree that with hard work t can be done though.

I completely agree with you , but at some point when you can’t eat any cleaner or reduce your calories, your body is done. I’ve been through all this as I was once 135 lbs. my diet was strict, but I did put in lots of hours at the gym to maintain this. Most of us don’t burn enough calories in the gym anyhow compared to how much we eat. Now that’s the average person. Maybe not how little bariatric patients consume now. But yes, weight loss is 80% diet. This is true. Plus there are so many other factors like hormones , stress levels and cortisol, health issues , sleep , antiquate Water intake, and more.

  16. It's good you had this discussion with your doc. Lots of people don't, and then are super surprised and upset when the scale stops moving when they are 40lbs above a normal BMI.
Here's an article that talks about it:
    http://www.obesityaction.org/educational-resources/resource-articles-2/weight-loss-surgery/dear-doctor-ive-had-bariatric-surgery-will-i-ever-get-to-normal-weight

The first year after surgery is important. Those who don’t reach goal might be because they start eating all kinds of things. my surgeon told me I’d reach goal in far less than a year and without issue. Especially since I’ve been that small before. I’m even on the “ smaller” side for a bariatric patient. He said due to all my health problems , my fat is hormonal , so once I’m balanced, I’ll easily lose the weight. Time will tell! I’m not one to really worry ahead nor believe one size fits all. But I can’t speak for people who are over 300lbs .. I’m sure I’ll have to work hard once I reach 150-160... I know the drill.

  17. No, this is new, I was doing fine up to this morning. The day before yesterday I was in the hospital with pain. The dr. thought I might have passed a gale stone, but of course can’t tell for sure. Now he wants to do an endoscopy to see if there is something wrong with my pouch. After all the tests I went through you would think that they would have a better idea then “well, I don’t know, guess we should take a look”. Wish they had done this while I was in the hospital so I would not have to sit here and worry like a maniac!

Oh dear.. I’m sorry about the doctors and lacking diligence with the checking of things. I hope you feel better and completely understand why you’d feel so worried.
