1. Finally made it! It’s been at least 15 yrs that I’ve been in the 200s. Very exciting!

I’m in the 100’s now too!! It’s been 5 or so years for me too.. I know that may not seem like a long time- but it was the hardest years of my life. So happy to be in this range... congrats on your progress

  2. Thankscatwoman7. Another reason to really change habits while it's easier too. Meal planning is going to be crucial for me.

I’m 10 weeks out and I definitely feel hungry often now. It does change based on how hydrated I am and how bored or stressed I am. I do feel full easily after eating though which is nice, but not at all like you imagine. On days I exercise , I feel less hunger. The key for me is benefiber in my drinks and staying hydrated. But the good thing is; the hunger isn’t at all like it was before surgery , and if I’m busy, I can go all day without food, although that’s not good because you feel starved after.. I munch often or drink Water to prevent major hunger..

  3. Can you recommend one and name your favorite unflavored Protein Powder?

Do you have a Sprouts or health food store near you? Although I haven’t tried mine yet, I found a VERY cheap soy Protein in the bulk section with no flavor... not sure if it’ll be gross like he mentioned, but it’s minus all the chemicals because it’s soy.. although I wouldn’t use too much soy in my diet.. that’s a whole different beast.

  4. Meaning that any unflavored Protein powder will have the taste of the power itself. No vanilla or chocolate to mask the taste.

Flavorless would mean you could add it to something and not know it is there. In my opinion, that doesn't exist.

Sent from my phone. Please forgive brevity and spelling.

Hmm you make a great point. I haven’t tried my unflavored powder yet. Got a small amount from Sprouts as it was dirt cheap.

  5. It has been a little over 2 months since my bypass surgery. I thought that I would have a hard time eating unhealthy stuff like Cookies but would be able to tolerate small amounts of meat etc at this point. This is not the case. If I eat even a little bit of chicken, or fish I will be sick for hours and vomiting all the time. I cannot tolerate any Pasta, bread, or salad either. Yet, I have no problem eating a cookie. I was hoping that I could follow a healthy diet that would consist of things like grilled salmon with vegetables but no, my tummy loves mashed potatoes and cookies! I don't know what to do anymore. Should I take a step backwards and start drinking Protein Soups again? I am concerned that I am not getting enough Proteins. I have lost about 40 pounds so far and I am happy about that. It is only that I am having such a hard time finding lunch options that would not make me vomit.

I at 10 weeks can’t digest most foods either, but I definitely don’t go near those foods. ( cookies) They are old habits and we should avoid them. also avoid bread and Pasta. It’s normal not to tolerate lots of foods for a long time. Nothing you can do about it until your body is ready. I throw up easily too with even healthy tiny bites of ground turkey or lettuce.. I do Protein Shakes, some bites of Protein Bars, cottage cheese, add tiny chopped strawberries, string cheese.. etc. I can even digest sliced up baby carrots (3 small ones) dipped in laughing cow cheese, ( 35cals) as long as I chew VERY well. The soft cheese helps slide the carrots down. That’s basically what I eat. I know it sucks, but talk to your doctor and use myfitnesspal app if you already don’t. Good luck !

  6. Hi everyone! I had sleeve to bypass revision surgery on 11/16/17. I was sleeved in 2012, and had unfortunately gained back quite a bit of weight after my 3rd and final pregnancy. I also developed horrible acid reflux. My surgeon and I decided that gastric bypass would be beneficial to me for weight loss and to help with the reflux. I am 5'0. I started out at 215, got down to 205 the day of surgery with the help of the 2 week liquid diet that was required. I feel like I am losing extremely slow. I weight myself every morning which I know I shouldn't do, but can't help it. I'm at 200 lbs now but have been stuck there for a few days and it's so frustrating because I'm still doing full liquids. I have been on support forums reading about people who drop weight like crazy the first few weeks and I feel so discouraged. Maybe I'm just expecting too much too soon. Does anyone else have the same issues/feelings? I drink my 64 oz of fluids daily, get in 60 grams of Protein from my Premier Protein shakes and sip on broth. I have had some sf pudding and sf Jello and popsicles but not much else. Any ideas what else I could incorporate into my diet? I start soft foods on 11/30/17. Thanks in advance [emoji4]

While my weight loss hasn’t been super slow- the past month it has been and I stall a lot. I started the gym 5 days; 30-1 hr walking. I started losing much faster. I know it’s hard to gym the first month or two- I’m at 10 weeks and barely started a week and half ago.. under 200lbs we don’t lose that fast. Just keep your head up and know that it’ll come off. Walk as much as you can to get your body going.

  7. I was told that after month 3 I would lose but the process would be slow . I’m at month for as of nov 18th and I lost 13 pds in mth 3 . For the pat week I’ve stayed steady at 190 hw: 249 any tips to accelerate the process ?? Also kidney pain ??? Normal ?

You’re at 190? That’s fantastic. If you lose 10-13 a month going forward you’re doing great- so everyone says. I’m finally in the 190’s too- but the gym 5 days a week helped big time! I only walk maybe 30 min to 1 hour if I have energy, and last week I lost 4 lbs.. so it really helped me. I have kidney pain also, but I have a history of stones ..
Just keep in mind as we are in the 100’s range of weight we have less to lose so our bodies don’t drop 20-30lbs fast anymore.. you’re doing great.

  8. Hi all!
I'm 44 days post op and I find my pouch confusing...I discovered ricotta bake when I first started puree foods. I ate it for dinner for days, and then one night two bites in I was in discomfort and it bounced right back out. Ricotta in general, tried it again on it's own. I was fine. Tried it another day and it bounced. Scrambled eggs, good one day, I'm throwing up the next. Same thing with tuna salad on Protein chips.
So I'm wondering, for those who have experienced this, does it become more predictable? Is my body just weird :o)

The exact same. I was eating ground turkey and lettuce for a week, and then now any variation of it and I instantly throw up... actually most foods I can’t tolerate at all. I’m still doing mostly soft foods with a few small exceptions.. I’m 10 weeks out too. Smells and things make me sick too. Nothing even really tastes good to me anymore. It’s the memory of how it used to taste..

  9. Can’t sleep nothing is comfortable

The first few weeks was a nightmare for me too. I had to use one of those longer pillows and prop it up and then add normal pillows around it to make a back cushion to lay upward and sleep... slept horribly the whole time too. Especially with the surgery openings we have to keep clean and the pain- you have to be super careful. I’m sorry. This will pass soon.

  10. big drops, when they occur, are usually just the first month. You're lucky you had one - drops of 30+ lbs the first month happen, but they're not all that common. Most people seem to lose in the 15-25 lb range the first month. After that, 10-12 lbs a month is pretty normal. You're not going to see another 30+ lb drop. But just stick with it. I lost 16 lbs my first month and 10-12 lbs a month for the next six months or so (and it dropped off even more at about the 6-7 month mark), but I still lost over 200 lbs. Just stick to your program, and it will come off.

I certainly don’t expect to lose 30 more pounds in one month- but my surgeon told me to expect a huge drop my first month. I didn’t even have much more than 100 pounds to lose to begin with, so I know it slows down. I’m always going to stick to plan .. I wouldn’t ever ruin a good thing. Especially since all my health problems are already mostly gone. Plus I can’t digest much, so there’s little to no way I can “ cheat”... I’ll throw it all up. Congrats on your weight loss. :-) I’m learning patience is a virtue

  11. Dang. Let me just say...I walk 2.2 mph on the treadmill and am Ms. Huff n' Puff doing it. In 30 minutes, I'm barely over 1 miles and I'm completely whipped LOL! So congrats on doing 5mph for 30 minutes. That seems like a crazy huge goal to even attain! Isn't that running?

Thanks! It was more like 4.0 I must’ve gotten something wrong in my explanation. But the next night at the gym- I was tired at 3.5 mph.. 5.0 is running yeah. I don’t huff and puff due to the fact that I’ve been active most my life and was a runner back in my fit days... but I do get tired in the gym. I do better out in nature. Being distracted is key!! But I’m committed to only weekly weigh ins and 5 nights a week of gym... see if I can get things losing again

  12. Try Protein Shakes tho.. as far as timed work outs.. you get use to them.. just give it a try.. you need to “hack” your body with different routines.. if you do same work outs your body gets used to it..or at least change your workouts daily.. just a thought.. good luck

Yeah I know all about this stuff. Most of it is common sense. I studied it in college. I hate Protein shakes . I won’t do them for a while. But when I can Digest fruit in them maybe I’ll make tasty ones. I was just asking due to curiosity on bypass patients and results. That I didn’t study and or have no experience with.

  13. Try adding more Protein in the morning, also include 3-4 times a week workouts..
    try doing split workouts ie
    15 min weight training
    5 min running interval
    15 min weight training
    5 min running interval
20 min bike or HIIT workout

I do eat cheese in the morning - but that’s about it. Maybe I’ll eat my bar in the morning? Those timed workouts are a headache and half for me to do. Never been good at tracking them correctly. But I can do interval training via treadmill and heart rate

  14. You lose muscle at approximately the same rate you lose fat. Lifting 3x a week will not "bulk" you up and reverse your weight loss. Especially if you are not a lifter- all those giant weight lifters eat 6000 calorie diets and do nothing but lift heavy heavy weights for long periods every day. Lifting in your/our circumstances only helps limit the amount of existing muscle mass you lose. On this extreme low calorie diet even lifting won't keep you from losing muscle mass, but it can protect what you have and keep you from getting that "skinny fat bobble head" look. Plus it's fun, and you get to play on the big boy side of the gym.

Full disclosure: I love lifting. If I could only lift and never worry about cardio stuff I would.

I'm two and a half weeks out, and I feel you on the exhaustion from even basic walking. I set aside 30 minutes a day to walk, no excuses. Some days I'm wheezing at 30 minutes, but today I walked for an hour and it was tough but I felt amazing. It's about making the habit as much as being active.

(And 2.5 miles in 30 minutes is 5 mph... That's really, really fast walking. Don't "sweat" being tired. Couldn't resist the pun!)

Sent from my SM-G900V using BariatricPal mobile app

Yeah- I usually walk a slow 2.5-3.0 miles per hour but for some reason today I felt like it was way to slow. But I know had I had a better breakfast- I would’ve rocked the workout. You’re right- I’ve done lifting before and lost afraid I guess. Back when I was 150- and doing p90x- my thighs and arms got thick. And the scale didn’t move- even on a 1600-1800 cal diet- but now things are far different. So I can sure try arm and leg weights. Luckily i don’t have bobble head look. Lol I’ve always had a more muscular “ fat girl” look. Never any skin in my face or arms or legs.. just mostly my stomach. Although who can’t use toning up?? We all can. :) thanks for the funny words of encouragement. You guys keep me happy and going. Xoxo

  15. You are doing fantastic! Stalls and plateaus are going to happen. I've never seen anyone a consistent straight linear drop in weight. It's not how fast the weight comes off it's the fact the weight is coming off. We all have different body physiology. Try not to compare your weight loss with others ...It will make you crazy
Yes, Working out will help your weight loss.
I had a large stall in my third month. I sold my treadmill and bought a gym membership. My weightloss seriously sped up. I got to goal in six months.
I think we are all stronger than we give ourselves credit for. You can take this weight loss opportunity and take it as far as you want.
I was a true couch potato. I hated working out in the beginning. I never would have believed I could finish a full marathon. Especially because I'm in my late 40's
Working out has been my replacement for stress/emotional eating. I used the time to process issues and take out my stress from work etc. It's time for myself. I don't let anyone call or interrupt me at the gym.
I discovered I'm a bit of an adrenaline junkie. I can crank up my play list while doing cardio and become a badass breaking a serious sweat. I get a high from it.
With rapid weight loss, most of us burn muscle. It was an unhealthy look for me. Weightlifting is a game changer for transforming your body. The muscle has filled some of my loose skin (only plastics will get rid of it)
Go get it girly! You may hate going to the gym some days. You won't leave the gym regretting that you went.

Thanks for the encouraging words. I just left the gym but was exhausted after 30 min (2.5mile) Walk, due to the fact having carrots and 30 cal cheese for breakfast.. I’m so happy to hear the gym totally sped up your weight loss! Gives me major motivation as I’m entering my 3rd month now! I’m kind a couch potato too and watch movies if I’m not working. But you’re right- I never regret hitting the gym. I do need to lift weights too. Just thought I’d do it when I’m smaller so the scale moves In the right direction at this time.. luckily I have pretty good skin elasticity being a darker girl. I don’t look tan in my profile pic- but I am .. lol need to update it

  16. I don't have the pain right over my spine but I do have lower and upper back pain. One I blame on my boobs for being too big for my body now and the other is because I have a mattress that is due for an appointment with the dumpster outside but I'm too poor to buy a new mattress at the moment. Sometimes the heating pad I have helps with the pain.

I’m right there with ya on those issues! Although my boobs have shrunk quite a bit. The mattress and not buying a good one..

  17. Today marks day 31 after my operation..... Starting weight was 265, day of operation 240, go home weight was 246.... today I am 222.... is that normal???? I do understand everyone is different.... but the first few weeks I was dropping over a pound a day..... now I am looking at only 2 pounds a week..... which "normal people" loose when dieting and exercising the right way.... getting frustrated and discouraged quick.... I was sooooo hoping to be at a 30 pound loss by my first post op appointment. putting me at 210.... I am not even close!

While my losses were super fast up to 30 days post surgery- I understand your frustration. I keep stalling .. super slow loss , and not consistent. You’ll lose again soon don’t worry. It seems as though everyone has such a different pace of loss. Im currently frustrated too. Need to stay clear of the scale to avoid stress I think...

  18. Missed this, but hope you had a great trip! I love Disney and have done it often. One of my favorite places.

Hope you had a successful fun trip! I eat Quest bars, lower calories Atkins snack bars, 80 cal pistachio bags, 120 cal high Fiber Protein pretzels ( wonderslim) and Perky Turkey Jerky ( target, Walmart) they are super soft and tasty. Lower in salt and healthier than leading jerky. I look forward to these Snacks even when I’m home. Measured out and easily put in my app.

  19. Hello. So after breaking my stall- I’ve lost about 5 lbs.. but last week nothing.. I’m following all diet and Water guidelines. I haven’t started the gym yet. I’m active some days with errands or go for a walk without friend- but nothing consistent. I was going to wait until I’ve really plateaued to start gym.

Has anyone noticed a difference in weight loss with exercise consistently? Will it help me lose more weight per week if I go 4-5 days?....

I’ll do whatever it takes to speed things up a bit. In November I only lost 10... I lost 38lb my first month! So I’m a bit bored with how slow things are moving.. I’m hoping it’s not going to be 10lbs per month going forward as I have lots more to lose! Yes, any loss is good- but I need to stay excited. I recall breaking a stall when I was at a wedding and danced a lot- and didn’t eat too much that weekend. I’m a lot hungrier now- so I won’t eat less, but can definitely hit the gym.

  20. Now the new problem ... I’m still at the hospital , my surgery was nov 28.. finished around 6pm. So all this time I ha e not pass gas, so I can’t go home! [emoji31] is there any tip.. other than walking .. I’m a pro at walking, you wouldn’t believe I had surgery. I drink my Water like normal , scares me a bit. Rubbed my belly and even slept side way. What now.. ? Today is the 1st of December I wanna go home is almost 3am.. had a walk and drank some Protein. Pee is fine btw.

I didn’t pass any gas either for at least a few days. I walked around the hospital several times a day for two days then went home and did the same. Took me several days to pass any. I was miserable. Once I started my Gas X pills- it helped so much!! Now I take them every day at night and also drink 2 benefiber packets a day!! Otherwise I get constipated rather easily , even though I eat fruits and veggies now on solids stage...

  21. GNC has a huge selection of Quest bars. Flavors I wasn't aware of.
I've also been using the Atkins Protein bars which are like a candy bar. They aren't as dense and heavy as Quest bars so I like that. With quest, they are tasty, but if I eat more than half, it feels like a rock in my tummy. I do like both of those, though.

Yeah I️ have a few Atkins ones, those are amazingly tasty. I️ also have tried the quest today for the first time and was impressed! I️ had about 1/3 if the bar as a snack since it is so thick. Got rid of my chocolate cravings. I️ put the rest in a zip lock bag for next time.. Power Crunch bars are incredible too. Taste like a wafer .
