My wife had the surgery 9 plus years ago. She was 5ft 1 inch and 250 lbs. She is now 135 lbs. The lowest she hit was 125 the doctor wanted her at 130 lbs he mentioned the 125 was two low. She also was 50 at time of surgery. Don't give up just follow the rules the doctor provided and slowly it will come off.

Thanks joe. Did your wife get to that number within a year or so? Most people even heavier than me- have reached below 130.. not sure how long it took them. Lots of people have claimed they kept slowly losing weight for up to 1.5-2 yrs after surgery. That’s great for your wife. I’m 35... so, I’d expect to keep dropping.. fingers crossed I can break plateau.

Actually your stall is not all that long, not saying it isn't annoying as heck. Try calorie cycling, a couple days a little lower, then a day higher, etc. On the low days eat only within an 8 hour window like intermittent fasting. Changing the foods around sometimes kicks it into gear, we tend to eat the same things after awhile. Try fish for a week, etc. Good luck.

Thanks. I definitely need to mix up my eating habits. Lower sugar - higher Protein some days, etc... I’ll keep that in mind..

  3. Well- at first dumping symptoms are pretty dramatic and I might say they feel like they last 20min but they don’t... it could have been dumping? But that early on is mostly when you’ll feel severe symptoms... it will get better. 10 months out I still get dumping often- but not so bad... keep an eye on it, cus it can be other things though hun.

  4. So... to sum this up- gastric bypass. 10 months ago. Started 250. Currently 146. I’ve lost the weight with higher carbs sugars and maybe calories than most. However can’t and couldn’t digest most cleaner foods ... just ate here and there for survival. I’ve been stuck at this weigh since early June... my first actual plateau. Years ago when I was dieting my weight always struggled to be lower than this... I would expect with bypass that I could teach my goal of 120 easily... my surgeon was even confident in that- considering I’m only 5’2.... I feel fat and disgusting... I eat tiny portions.

Any of you been stuck for a long time and then lost a bunch again? .... I know I’m in my head about this- and had fast and great loss- but... f**ck... I didn’t have surgery to be this size... yes I have tons of skin.. when I remove it, I’ll look much smaller... until then - I need more losses. Just feeling very frustrated..

Besides physical change of weight loss.... How have you changed since you started this journey?

This list is long... don’t judge. Lol
    I have no sex drive.
    No arousal sensation.
    I shop wayyyy too much.
    I lost friends
I don’t like being around unhealthy people
I always watch how much people eat and think “ damn” that’s a lot .
I feel guilty when I eat most foods.
I feel weird when I buy size small or medium clothing. Like it’s for someone else.
I feel more confident and attractive now.
Other than that- I’m the same. Less moody now. Still a nice girl. Lol.

    @hopeful333

sure there is hope and success of keeping weight loss off permanently!!

Six (6)+ years ago i was sleeved. Lost 105 lbs by years end. GOAL

DOS 235 lbs - 130 lbs GOAL 135 lbs CW:)

around 2.5 years, i felt good restriction. After that, it's "all in my head"

WLS helped me reach GOAL - but then i was pretty much on my own.

(mentally i had stay on the straight and arrow) NOT easy, but i'm still

    around to talk about it!!

i periodically have fluctuated a few lbs - but i consider myself at maintenance

some OP gain weight PO, they were successful, reached GOAL or close.

Felt over confident, lax off and start eating wrong, grazing all the time, grazing

    - that is how many gained weight.

After losing your extra weight, you must stick with the program ALWAYS

Continue your good habits you learned. You are NOT done when that "number"

is achieved. NOT easy, but you can do it. It aint over til the fat lady sings!!

    good luck

    kathy

Thanks for the tips! I graze a lot too! But that’s mostly because I can’t digest most real foods yet. However! I do count every single calories and stay under 1200 even when I eat junk foods. So that way I don’t feel deprived and can still lose my weight. Seems to work for me. I change my calories and workouts and then I see another drop. 9 months post op. 20lbs left! I need to work hard for this last 20 though! Snail slow! Having “ stall “ type going on for the first time. Still thankful. I’m bypass so I can’t eat too much anyhow. Making sure I don’t stretch the pouch .

I'm happy with even 1lb of weight loss. It's more weight loss than I would have had without the surgery. I'll get to my goal.... eventually.

Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

This mentality is beautiful! I’m at that point too! I had rapid loss initially and now that I’m 20lbs to goal- it’s slow as hell. 1lb loss makes me super happy. Means it’s moving in the right direction.

    What's the rush?

I took the opportunity to learn about nutrition and exercise along the way in order to actually KEEP the weight I lost off, which over 50% of us will fail to do. That is far more important than how quickly it comes off.

    Perspective is important.

Omg. That’s not slow. You’re doing amazing! Congrats

Rapid weight loss definitely has a lot of drawbacks. I have had a lot of health issues from my body being in shock. Feeling dizzy and light headed. I had psoriasis flare ups (in addition to a range of complications from my auto-immune disease).

I didn't mention this before, but it's very strange, psychologically speaking to lose 100 plus pounds in less than six months. It's very disorienting. You feel like a stranger in your own body. It's uncomfortable. You don't recognise yourself. I had a bit of depression (which may have been related to the illnesses), but it also was in part because I was really freaked out by all the changes. How do you stay mindful and centred, when you're dropping 6 dress sizes in 6 months? There's no time to adjust!

I am not complaining. I underwent this surgery as an investment in my future health and happiness. And frankly, I wouldn't mind some of that magic rapid weight loss again. However, losing slowly does have some benefits.

I couldn’t agree with you more! I have such dry skin, and emotional guilt and issues. I’m happy and thankful- but feel guilty when I eat most food. Like I’m going to stretch my pouch out or something. I never recognize feeling hungry or full. I lost 100lbs in 7 months and now things are super super slow. In the 140’s and often terrified to step on the scale. My weight does go up and down by a pound based on my sugar or sodium intake... life is super weird now... the feeling weird in my body. Although I’m also not complaining.... happier x100000 ... but I always thought being skinny would change my eating issues... nope! Just harder to binge because I’m full. My mind is still the same often.

I think I had unrealistic expectations. I kept hearing about people who lost 90 lbs in 3 months sort of thing, but I forgot that they were starting from a place with much more to lose, which helps it fall off faster. I'm evidently going to have to be content with ~4lbs per week. :(

4lbs a week is fabulous!! It may slow down much more than that honey. When you get small, it will. Then it’s discouraging. I’m going through that. Not to say you aren’t smaller now.

I'm very frustrated... even though I know what's happening is 100% normal and expected. I've been stuck around the same weight for more than a week now, but my body fat % is dropping, so I know I'm still heading in the right direction. It's still painfully slow for my liking. But, I just have to keep at it, I know it's not a race, I know that having the band already means that My rate of loss is going to be MUCH slower than any other bypass. I know all of these things, and yet, every day I step on that scale and the weight doesn't move, I curse a little to myself. I'm still keeping my Protein and Water goals in check. I'm in the gym at least an hour a day doing cardio AND muscle building. So, even though it's frustrating, I'm doing my best to keep all that in check and keep myself moving forwards. Just need to keep moving forwards. The struggle **IS** worth it!

If my weight only stayed the same for a week, I’d be stoked! Mine stays the same for weeks now... yes I do eat more now.. no , I don’t workout as much. I know that’s why .. but on the bright side? I’m down 105lbs.. just need to exit the 140’s to be happier... in a slump. Pms eating. Happy you’re body fat percentage is reducing. I should probably get mine checked.

  12. You can change up your macros on the app. I eat wayyyy more carbs. I eat around 80-120 grams a day! I eat less Protein. I’m 9 months post op and just started eating chicken and 1000-1200 cals a day and some more if I hit the gym. I now barely started stalling... I’m down 105lbs .. but now I lose hardly 5-8lbs a month... try eating 1000cals and more carbs if you can... hang in there! You’ll lose more ... it is very strange that you can eat solids like that at 6 weeks... it took me over 4 months! And now I can slowly eat junky meats.... sadly. I do eat nuts and stuff. Helps my hair not fall out so much I feel ...

  13. I would kill to be 120 or less! I started 8 months ago at 250 and now stalling at 147.. my first “ stall”... it makes me panic into thinking I’m stuck here... I better not be!! I’m only 5’2 though! So while people say I look rather small now- I would love to be extra petite. You’re tall so you look tiny too .. but I think you look great. Sorry you aren’t hungry. I also often force calories ... I eat lots of nuts and such! At least it’s healthy calories... I’m a size small and medium also. But pant size 8 almost 6... I’ve got a ways to go.... good luck to you and smoke weed if you want an appetite... if that’s an option. It sure works

  14. Most things give me dumping. 8 months post op .. eggs won’t digest anymore . I recently started eating small low calorie Caesar salads with rib chicken bits. Fills me up nicely. I do sometimes indulge in Starbucks cake pop and Red Baron thin crust small slice of pizza. Super salty- but I can digest the strangest things!! Looking forward to eating Real foods. Healthier cleaner foods. I’ve been at 147 for 3 weeks now. I’m always within my caloric range no matter what I eat though! So... can’t wait for another nice drop!!

  15. I also eat 1000-1200 calories a day. I'm down 95lbs in 4 months. I also eat carbs, from fruits, veggies, and whole grains. I advice to up your calories for a week and see if it makes a difference. I highly doubt you will gain, so if not, its just another week stalled.

Wow! Congrats on such fast results! You have me beat easily. ;) I’m happy to hear you actually eat! Seems like everyone is super strict and doesn’t eat anything off “plan”... I try to live. Especially if we’re losing this fast- why not eat , if it’s working.

  16. I have hit a stall for about 6 weeks. Any suggestions for jump starting to start losing again? Thanks in advance

Eat more. A lot more if you can... I seem to be a very unique case... down 100 in 8 months with no stalls.. I might stall a week or two but still lose some.. then a big drop.. I don’t workout too much either... walk 45-1 hour few days a week. I eat 1000-1300 cals too. Plenty of carbs... so I guess I cannot advise? I just say make sure you poop and drink lots of Water. That helps me

  17. So here’s my take on it.... absolutely no regrets.. down 101lbs and feeling like a million bucks. 25 more to go... Shopping is amazing and I look quite sexy. However. I did get in bed with the devil... 8 months out and I still cannot eat most things. I’m the queen of dumping syndrome and and feeling sick and throwing up. I haven’t even tried most foods and I dump almost daily. I do have a structure- so until I get that opened up- I just eat what I can digest. I experiment all the time. I can digest thin crust pizza and cheese and crackers and berries- and cannot most healthy things. Very strange. For me? I feel like I have to learn to eat all over again. I don’t ever know what I can and can’t digest. I wish I could have chicken breast and salad. Or a balanced diet like we’re suppose to have... I do not. I drink shakes and things. Protein Bars and Snacks. I came from a huge family and my boyfriend is a foodie. I cannot join them. I’m OK with that mostly. I do taste or nibble sometimes to test the waters on digesting it.. so... I want you to see the rough side too. I know once I open the structure I can likely digest a lot more. But this has been my exhausting experience 8 months in... god honest truth. My positive outlook is my confidence and new quality of life. I’ll eventually be able to eat a balanced clean diet of real Protein and food. When?? Who the heck knows... lol.

    Stricture******

  18. I haven't even scheduled my surgery yet, but I'm freaking out. My last apt is May 29th, then we submit to insurance. I've been on this journey since November but I'm just now freaking out. What if I can never have a fry again? Should I even care? Isn't that my problem? Can I still enjoy life without food? I go to food for such comfort and that's so wrong. I guess I'm worried I won't enjoy what I will be eating. Do any post op patients still enjoy food? Like for holidays, can you still eat just small amounts? Slightly freaking out over here!

  19. I will be having the bypass on 6/19/2018 and was just curious on how much others had lost or is losing monthly?
    Thanks and Happy Losing!!

I had bypass 8 months ago. I lost 100lbs so far. My first month I lost over 30lbs. Second month 20lbs and third month I started averaging about 15lbs per month- but then after 5-6months it seems to keep slowing down at about 7-10 per month. I started at 250- and now I’m at 148... so I only need to lose about 20lbs more or less- and perhaps that’s why it’s slowed down. I also don’t get in enough nutrients as I have a stricture and can’t digest most real food. Animal meats and products and most anything really.. so.. yeah. But my body did let go faster than a lot that I’ve spoke too, and I haven’t truly plateaued ... I feel lucky. It’s a very rough long road.

  20. So I’m about to get super public here... I’ve been thin before in my life ... so I’ve done it all- sexually.. toys, lingerie, etc etc... I’m experienced in this area... this is a whole new thing as far as not feeling aroused. My boyfriend is very sweet about it all, but back when I was this size or smaller ( 140lb ) and going! I had regular sensation. Now? Nothing.. those arousal gels and stuff don’t work either. I don’t like the sensations of them... im gonna deal with a doctor soon to figure it out... likely surgery did something to my hormones... thanks for the suggestions though [emoji4]

But noted! I won’t put oil inside me.. I worry about that too.. Ph balance stuff

  21. ***also graphic post***
Don't put coconut oil in your vagina. It will through off your pH balance.
I vote a trip to the adult store. There are specific clitoral stimulating creams and arousal gels. Maybe a toy or 2? And definately cute lingerie. Get adventurous and explore your new body. I'm sure your husband won't mind a little trial and error to see what works for you.
Often the staff at adult stores can be very helpful and lots of products are available in sample sizes.< br> pm me if you want any specific recommendations [emoji6] most stuff is available at cheaplubes.com

  22. Good luck! But don't stress about it, there is a very heavy mental aspect to this as well. Tip with the lubes, try a dab behind your ear before you go slathering your nether regions, you wouldn't want to have a reaction that's less than pleasant if you are sensitive to something in the lube. At least with the lubes meant for added sensitivity, also, check with your partner, they might have some "adverse" reactions to added stimulus *wink*. For non-sensation adding lubes, pure food grade coconut oil is AMAZING for both parties! And it's good for your skin!

Hmmm! Well I hate the added sensation ones. They definitely don’t feel good for me... basic is the way to go... Water based usually. But they can get super slippery.. lol. Coconut oil huh?? Okay.. are you knowledgeable? Thanks :) nobody is usually willing to have the awkward convos. I appreciate it. Honestly I’m not stressing it. There’s more to life than sex. :)
