  1. My dietitian said roughly 2ltres per day. I bought 2 one litre bottles and fill them when I'm working and I know that's what I need but all the other drinks count too including clear broth Protein Shakes or Protein Water. I don't always get it all in but I try. It makes it hard when you can't eat and drink at the same time and have to time it. Some days there's just not enough time

  2. After reading lots of posts on lots of forums I would have to say it's an individual thing. Some people feel hungry some don't. I had the bypass and I don't feel hungry. Every now and then I feel a little nauseous and realise I haven't eaten and it's empty. The removal of the ghrelin hormone I think is the same. Some people and now and then I'm one feel head hunger. It's not real hunger it's just wanting to eat for the sake of eating. When I get like that it's usually boredom and I eat sugar free jelly. I am also 11 weeks and lost almost 100lbs

  3. I am 10 weeks out and I felt like that early on as well. I thought what have I done! I think it's perfectly normal to feel like that after a big surgery. My surgeon even explained to me in medical terms why you feel down and have a little post op depression even. It gets better trust me. I had WLS surgery when I was 20 which in those days was stomach stapling. I was no prepared for it at all and I blew it big time. Now at 57 after a lifetime of staying fat and getting diabetes etc I've had to have a bypass. You can do this at your age. It's a lifestyle change but you have time on your side to make it happen. Good luck with your journey!

  4. My dietitian still encourages some kind of low fat low carbs sauce on meat that is dry. I sometimes use a little bit of Greens low carb gravy granules or make a white sauce with a little cornflour and milk and seasonings for fish. Goes down much easier and it's just a spoonful that's needed. I never use bottled ketchup BBQ etc due to the sugar. If I don't have sauce then sometimes small sips of Water but just sips. I am about 10 weeks post RNY lost 96lbs

  5. I have had this issue pretty much from the start and have to keep on top of it. I'm not sure where you are but the first advice I had was to try prune juice and benefibre. Now I have sachets of Movicol ingredient is macrogrol you may have similar and also old fashioned lactulose Syrup. They really work but the first time after 7 days I went in and had an enema because it was impacted further in. I didn't even feel like I had to go. Funny about the watermelon drink. I had Diet-lite lemon cordial all day the other day as a change from Protein Water and it gave me diarreah the next day. I was thinking I might still have one once or twice a week if it's going to help get the bowel moving

  6. You’ll be happy to know I now get my Vitamins, I have been crushing and mixing with hunny, naughty but if sugar but glad I’m getting my vitamins

That's awesome Rach84. I use BN Multi and BN Cal+D both WLS vitamins both chewable. Also Vit B injections because I had a B and D deficiency way before the surgery. From what I was told at the time Vit B deficiency is particularly bad and Vit D helps to absorb the Calcium. Good luck with your journey and great job taking on board the information that was given out. A lot of people get stubborn in these instances and think they know better. I'm learning something new everyday! I had the bypass 10 weeks ago roughly. I've lost 96lbs

  7. I am 10 weeks out and lost 96lbs. The only rule I break is that I tend to eat too fast and because of that I sometimes eat too much before I realize I'm full then it hurts! I still sometimes have sips of Water during or after a meal if it's a bit dry or spicy. I take the Vitamins and have Vit B injections because I had a deficiency anyway. I try to drink the 2 litres of water. I drink coffee. I had my first one in the hospital! I try to limit it to 1-2 cups at home or 3-4 at work of which I usually leave at least half lol I sometimes get lazy on cooking veges. Carbs are part of my plan but other than crispbread that I have salmon on and brown rice I don't care if I never have them. bread and Pasta don't interest me. I haven't had any sweets at all. I don't really want to eat even sugar free sweets, I would prefer to just not have them in my diet for as long as I can. I haven't done too badly on rules I guess!

  8. Oh wow that's terrible. I am 10 weeks post bypass and I only started eating normal food last week. The dietitian told me to try a lot of different things. Some will sit well some won't but if they don't then put them aside for a while. If you are that sick though I'd go and have a scan and make sure everything is OK. I had one for sickness week two and it was Constipation I didn't even know it was blocked inside somewhere. The next time I had kidney stones so it's a good idea to be checked over before it turns into something.

  9. That was pretty funny lol Doo Lally the kidney stones came out on Thursday 26th and I go back on the 9th of Nov for one last procedure to remove the stents then I'm good to go! If you do go ahead with the surgery I hope your diabetes goes into remission too. I know your measurements are different to Aus but here a diagnosis of Diabetes is blood sugar continually coming back with a reading of 7+ Since the surgery It is on average around 4-5 my cholesterol is around 3.1 which is actually quite low. So far all results have been good.

  10. First off congratulations on getting clean it's a big job!

I have been on prescription opiates for some time now. Targin morning and night which I'm OK with. I have chronic osteoarthritis and take them for pain. Pre op I went onto Endone for added relief because paracetamol was affecting my liver and NSAIDs were out due to blood pressure and now bypass. The plan was to start weaning off the endone post surgery pain relief. Since the surgery I can stand a bit longer walk a bit further but still have a lot of pain. Then I developed kidney stones and still needed it. Two weeks from now I will have my third kidney surgery to remove stents. Hopefully after that we can begin the process. I don't know if I have become dependent on them but my guess is at least to a degree. One day in hospital I didn't have any endone and got a bit jittery. Any tips would be welcome. I want to knock it on the head now before it becomes a serious issue and so does my GP

  11. I hope she's feeling better. I had a few problems with nausea and bloating. They didn't find anything wrong with the actual surgery sites but I was badly constipated. I didn't have any feeling of pain like I needed to go or that anything was there. I didn't think of it because I was hardly eating anything. But there was an impacted mass further up that just didn't move so I couldn't eat anything else on top. Just a thought keep a record of how often she goes. It can be solved quite easily.

  12. I have eaten oatmeal my whole life and after the RNY it was fine while on the soft pureed etc then one morning I had it and it made me sick. I waited a few days tried again same thing. Three times it made me sick so the dietitian said put it aside for a while. Same thing with smoked salmon I love it. Had it with cottage cheese and Avo first bite made my start heaving. With the oatmeal it's fine again now. I'm thinking there were other things going on. I was badly constipated and got very sick. Turned out I had kidney stones. I had them out this week and so far all food has been fine. I had my first sandwich with soft bread in hospital and it was good.

  13. If you don't feel that you can tell your friend directly then try a different approach. When you go to the food store just say hey you go in I'll just wait here and drink my Water I don't really need anything. If she's coming to your house ask her to bring something you can eat like something sugar free. I find if you drop enough hints most people get the message. Try to make outings not about food so something that doesn't involve lunch or dinner. You do what's best for you and it will all work out!

  14. I had my gastric bypass in August. I had blood tests a week ago and all nutritional levels were great. Like James I came out of hospital totally off the Diabetes meds. The blood pressure meds have had to be reduced twice due to dropping low when I stand up. All other medications have been fine. I have severe osteoarthritis and was about to buy a wheelchair and also about to switch to insulin for the Type II diabetes. Now I can stand a bit longer and walk a bit further and as I said off all diabetes meds. I have had early dumping once which happens very quickly but I ate too much and too fast and I learnt. The only issue I have had is Constipation which is a whole new concept for me because my whole life I've had a kind of IBS so that has needed constant monitoring. I just came out of hospital yesterday after having kidney stones removed. Nobody is quite sure if it was caused by the rapid weight-loss or if they were there and it exacerbated them. Either way they are out now so back to moving forward. I have lost 43kg or around 90something pounds since August so about ten weeks. I am so glad I did it even with a few bumps in the road it was worth it. When I consider the way I was headed I would do it again in an instant. Good luck with whatever you choose.

  15. I took all the usual things. I took 3 changes of nighties and undies. Didn't end up needing the nighties wore hospital gowns. I took shampoo/conditioner toothbrush toothpaste soap moisturising face wipes, moisturiser and lip balm. I found the face and lips got very dry. I also took my phone and charger. Little bit of cash which I didn't need because the hospital asks for $25 to cover all incidentals such as Wi-Fi, Pay TV newspaper etc. Other than the above the two other important things were non slip shoes or slippers and any current medications.
