  1. Thanks for the kind words, I really appreciate that. Today is my 2nd nutrition class (6 month program). We will weigh in and then have the class. According to my scale at home I've lost 15-20 pounds. I'm hoping for some good pre-op weight loss.
  2. Food of course is the likely answer but does it go any deeper for any of you? When I was younger, I was kind of ignored, not neglected by any means, but it was easier for my parents to set me in front of the TV and give my chips, because that's what made me happy. Unfortunately, I never grew out of this. I associated food with being happy and I stress/binged eat any time I got down. I never really learned moderation. What about you guys?

    Struggling

I'm thankful that I saved all my clothes from the time I was smaller which was about 75 pounds ago. Hopefully I'll be fitting in those soon.
  4. Certainly working on eating less, which hasn't been a problem, I've been on diets all my life and I have a good idea on what to eat and to avoid. We both use an app called Baritastic which you can log your food and it helps you keep in your calorie range. I'm also working on eating slower, that's always been a trouble area for me.
  5. Thank you for asking. Everything went great. Spoke to the dietician, she gave me some guidelines on what to go by. They want me to lose 25 pounds by March. My wife and I (who is doing the surgery too) have both lost 14 pounds in just over 2 weeks. We also had or psych eval, which also went great. We go back on the 19th for our next nutrition class. All is well.
  6. One of my first appointments is completed. I was worried about it because I do have a history of depression but everything seemed to go well (for me and my wife who is also doing it) On to the next appointment.

    Depression and Gastric Bypass

I passed my evaluation yesterday. As long as you are making an attempt and keeping on meds, I think you'll be fine.
  8. For me it was wanting to lose weight a little faster than the sleeve. I know I'll have to watch the excess skin and try to tone myself as I go on, but I'm ready to do this after 20 years of ups and downs. The doctor said I could go either way, but I made a good choice at the same time. Did you choose or was one recommended over the other?
  9. Or did you have to lose any before surgery? My nutritionist wants me to lose 25 lbs. by March. It shouldn't be too hard. When I was weighed I was probably bloated and retaining water so I'll probably lose 5-10 the first week. My wife and I are getting the surgery and we both started eating better yesterday. I'm eager for the surgery but am glad I'm doing something about it now and hopefully will lose a decent amount in 6 months.
  10. Thanks and congrats on your progress. I'm so thrilled to finally be doing this. I know for sure I can lose the weight, I lost over 100 lbs. in 2014 but I gained most of it back unfortunately which seems to be the story on my diets. Now that I need to be held accountable, it makes it much easier.
  11. My wife and I both signed up for gastric bypass surgery. Our first appointment with the surgeon and dietician was yesterday. Approx. March surgery date. The insurance requires 6 months of monitored dietary progress. They want us to lose 25 pounds by then, which shouldn't be too hard. With all the water weight I have now, I could probably do half that in the next 2 weeks. Wish us luck!
  12. This is my first post, and it may be an odd question... I have my first appointment with my surgeon on 9/21 to decide what kind of surgery I want to do, the sleeve or bypass. I likely will do bypass but want to hear his recommendation. I have some image problems related to my weight, which I am sure many of us have and had and I'm definitely not my issues are any different than anyone else's but I will have to wait at least 6 months for the surgery and that's probably for the better as I will meet with the nutritionist and have several appointments to check in with the doctor before the big day. Right now, at the weight I am at, I just feel like it's such a long way off and I'm just a "Before Picture" right now and everyone sees me that way (no one knows I'm getting this except for a select few). My weight has always bothered me and I've been up and down with it all my life. I just hate that I'm here with the weight until then, I'm so eager to get rid of it and start over. Anyone else feel that way?

    Pittsburgh

I'm having my surgery done with WVU Hospitals in Morgantown. Not too far away.
  14. I plan to get mine at WVU. I've heard good things.
  15. I looked through a few pages and didn't see WV here.

    Life with CPAP

I have used a CPAP for years, full face mask too. I'm used to it. You learn to adjust to the tubing and the mask itself, I mean you have to. One of the reasons I'm excited about this surgery is getting off the CPAP. I started out well but as time went on it wasn't as effective and I wake up really tired. I think it's likely due to weight gain. I have an appointment with my sleep Dr. in October to make possible adjustments.
  17. I have not had surgery, it's a ways down the road but I currently hate exercise. After you had your surgery and if you did start exercising was it more because you had a boost to your ego and just felt better about yourself or was it the fact that you were just more comfortable and able to do more or a little bit of both? I'm hoping I'll start to be more apt to exercise once I see results.
