    Protein

From DFW Bariatric Institute: "Hair loss after bariatric surgery is very common and very stressful. We all want to achieve great weight loss results and still have great hair. The hair loss associated with weight loss surgery is called telogen effluvium and has to do with the normal hair growth cycle. It usually starts abruptly and very seldom lasts longer than 6 months. Human hair has a two-stage growth cycle. The growth phase is called anagen and 90% of our hair follicles are in this phase at any given time. The resting phase is called telogen, which lasts about 1 to 6 months, with an average of 3 months. About 5-15% of our hair is in the resting phase at any given time. It is also known that telogen effluvium has to do with stress to the body and hormonal changes that can occur. Due to the stress more hair follicles can enter into the resting phase. This is important because the hair in the resting phase at the time of surgery is most likely the hair you will shed. This is why your hair sheds between 1 to 6 months after surgery (usually about 3 to 4 months)." Some people say taking biotin can help.

    Breaking the 3 week stall!

Mine was at three weeks, also. It freaked me out, but I was still turning a ketostix purple so I know I was still burning fat even though the scale wasn't budging. I always say you shouldn't weigh daily, but when you get stuck like that you want to jump on the scale hoping "Is today the day the stall breaks?" So if you can stand not knowing you are better off weighing weekly.

    IM SO SAD

You should look into getting a CareCredit card, They work like charge cards but are only for medical bills. If you pay them off quickly there's no interest, so maybe that could get you in sooner.

    CBD Honey

Don't Bogart that joint, my friend, pass it over to me...... $200 for CBD oil? You can get the real deal much cheaper!

    CBD Honey

Weed's not legal here, but CBD is. There are some oils that are flavored that help remove that "earthy" taste. The cinnamon ones taste much better than the plain. I talked at length with a CBD distributor at a music festival and asked about so many companies jumping on the CBD bandwagon. It's a new industry without a lot of regulations and quality controls in place yet, so know where you get it from (of course he said HIS company was the best!). So I imagine one brand might work better for you than the other. I doubt the honey doesn't help other than to make it taste better. Be sure to compare the CBD concentration of your product because it's all over the map. I've never used it, but I hear valerian root helps many people relax and sleep. I hope you find something that helps you!

    What the Prep...

Dang. I'da hate to seen THAT grocery bill!😁 I bought a lot of stuff before my surgery and it's still sitting on the shelf or in the fridge. After my surgery I didn't want to eat any of it. The protein shakes are the worse--I couldn't choke them down at all. I guess I'll try to find a local food bank to donate it to.

    APPROVED

    Yay! It's a great feeling, isn't it?
  8. My nutritionist said only to avoid gummy vitamins, but the other supplements can be in gummy form.
  9. Guys, I gotta get this off my chest. BariatricPal is a wonderful site that has helped countless people on their weight loss journey. Many topics have been discussed here with some of them being a bit off-color or controversial, but it's OK because we are hear to learn and get help and give help. But many posters ask honest questions, and some of the responses come off as being judgemental of the poster. If people are afraid their questions are going to bring down a rain of judgements on their head, they are likely NOT to post, and isn't asking questions what this forum is for? So I hope we can give a bit of consideration when we respond to a question. Opinions are definitely OK, but if the post comes off as judgemental people may be hesitant to ask them, and it defeats the purpose of this forum. Thanks, whew-I feel better now. I love you all!

Lap Band Removal and Revision Suggestions Needed

I would find another doctor if you can. There's nothing wrong with shopping around. I had to change my original choice when the office told me Medicare wouldn't pay for a bypass because I already had a lap band--WRONG! The doctor should not be pushing a choice on you--he/she should inform you as well as possible and let YOU make the choice. Did you have GERD before your lap band? If so I would definitely choose a bypass. That's what I did.

    NSV for me!!

Welcome to the Gun Show!! Seriously, they look great. Your hard work is paying off!
  12. I think a lot of us overweight people are insecure about our looks, but our hair was something we could take pride in and was our nicest feature. And now maybe that will be compromised. I'm not terrified that it could happen, but I'm not looking forward to it, either...
  13. I never really liked the label "diabetic" that the doctor stuck on me since I only had a slightly elevated A1C, but I did take the metformin that he gave me. That label DID help me get approved for my surgery since it gave me a comorbidity so I guess he did me a favor. They had me stop the metformin two days before my surgery, and the last A1C I did was completely normal! Gastric bypass, and to some extent the sleeve, has worked wonders for many diabetics.
  14. The only thing that is different now (besides the amount of food I eat) is that I poop only once every 3-4 days instead of daily. You used to be able to set your watch by my bowels, but no more.💩

    Cold 🥶 Feet 😬

Almost everybody goes through this feeling of "Why am I doing this?" It's normal to be a bit scared of the unknown. As far as the pain, most of mine was from the gas they use to inflate your abdomen so the surgeon can see what he's doing. But it passes fairly quickly, and you have some control over it by walking as much as you can. Try not to let others instill fear in you. It's YOUR life, and your journey, and you want to live it in the healthiest and longest manner! Good luck and keep us posted!
  16. I had a slipped lap band that needed to come out. My surgeon said he'd do either procedure, but it was preferred to revise a lap band to an RNY in one procedure than the sleeve, and I wanted it all done in one surgery since I live 4 hours away from my surgeon. Also, I had terrible GERD before my lap band so the surgeon suggested the RNY to help keep the GERD from coming back. So far, so good!

13 years later and - I Love my band

I'm happy you have been able to keep your band with good success! I totally agree with you that if you're not having issues with your band there's no reason to remove it. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". Unfortunately many of us old bandsters have had to have ours removed for various reasons and gotten revisions. I don't miss mine at all...

    skinny shamed lol

You look great--I almost can't blame them!😁 Seriously, good job--don't let them get to you!
  20. Wow, your surgeon has a VASTLY different and aggressive post op diet at two weeks than mine did. At two weeks I was ecstatic when I got to eat two teaspoons of cottage cheese or mashed potatoes... By the end of the second week I was up to a whole tablespoon! This just underscores what I've been saying all along, that there's no consensus between these WLS surgeons on ANYTHING! I'm glad to hear it's going well for you, SDS! You will hit your goal in no time!
  21. And what about sugar alcohols? I've not dumped because I've avoided sugar like the plague, but I ate 3/4 of a low carb protein bar the other day and my heart started pounding and I felt like I had to lay down. That may have been a dump on only 2 net carbs, so I suspect the sugar alcohols might have been the culprit...anybody else have problems with protein bars?

    Home from the Hospital

You can do this! It IS tough at first, but each day is better than the previous one. Take care of yourself and be patient with yourself with your eating and drinking schedule. It's daunting at first, but it does become easier!

  24. Love the new duds! Who says you can't wear horizontal stripes? They certainly don't make YOU look fat! Aaaaaaand--fold those dang clothes! You're killing me here!!!

    CBD Honey

I would worry about the sugar in the honey causing dumping syndrome...you might try a half dose and see if you tolerate it. There are some CBD products that have no honey in it, maybe try that?
