Was this a result of a longitudinal study? A sociological study?
    Was it a Facebook post?
Was it part of a book? Or a thesis?
Was it in a magazine in a cafe?
What sort of veracity can we expect from the source.

It is good to start out with sample packs and try the different ones. Individual packs can be bought at GNC. There are so many different types and different flavors available, you need to experiment. After surgery your taste buds may change and you may need to repeat this process.
I used Muscle Milk Light (Vanilla Creme) Protein Powder blended with Water and a half a banana. That worked for me. But on the opposite end of the spectrum, you might try premixed Isopure.
    As far as recommendations:
    1. Take a good before photograph of yourself, so that you have something to compare to after surgery. Many times we are blind to our obesity. We do not see ourselves. Therefore when the weight begins to drop off rather dramatically, we question if this is really happening. Photographs are a good visualization of our success. Many people carry a before and after photo with them, just to remind themselves of their success.
    2. Walk 30 minutes each day, every day until surgery (or equivalent exercise). Walking helps the recovery process go smoothly and minimized the pain levels from surgery.
    3. Wean yourself from caffeine and carbonated beverages now. After I gave up my 6 diet coke a day habit, I suffered from a week of severe withdrawal syndrome consisting of severe headaches and body aches. I was miserable. You don't want to combine the effects of caffeine withdrawal with the effects of surgery. (On this change alone, I lost 20 pounds pre-op.)

But the post where I said I was offering my 2c worth was NOT negative. In fact, it canvassed other ways to deal with the thoughts that the O.P. was having ... i.e. another way of dealing with the concern.
And, also, you might have looked a tad harder and seen that TWICE in that conversation thread, the O.P. actually thanked me for the reflections and opinions. She/he did not perceive any vein of negativity.

Can you give a brief summary of what this is and what the key tips she suggested are, please? (Here or maybe in a new thread.)

    Good point.
I went with Nestles Optifast on my first shopping excursion ONLY BECAUSE MY DIETITIAN SPECIFICALLY RECOMMENDS IT.
    - - -
But, after some research and commonsense, I have given up on Nestle Optifast for the future because:
    (a) poor value ... only 18 packs and 12 packs ... and, even on 20% general discount, more expensive than undiscounted ALMOST 100% IDENTICAL brands.
e.g. An 18 pack of Optifast on the best special price is $AUS52 (or 36 for $104) which is $AUS2.89 per serve. Optislim, OTOH, a 99% identical formula, which comes in 21 packs is on an almost permanent two for $AUS55 which equates to $AUS1.31 per serve. Isowhey, a lower sugar, more fibre product is $AUS1.77 per serve normally and $AUS1.60 n discount. Optislim Rapid, the low-sugar, low-calorie version at two 21-packs for $65 full-time is $AUS1.55 per serve
Optifast by the Swiss Nestle is a giant wallet ripoff.
    (b) Immorality! This is really galling. On the one-hand, Nestle owns lots of food and confectionery companies which worked their proverbial arses (asses for my USA readers) off selling us 5h1t to make us fat or obese in the first place.
The seductive ads to get us to buy less nutritional and dubious foods ... but then they're waiting with a high-cost paid solution to help alleviate obesity. Grrrrr. That is why I will buy almost any other brand that IS NOT at "both ends" of the "get-fat, lose weight" continuum.

Yes, Isowhey 672g packs are 33% off at Chemist Warehouse & Priceline.
Optifast (which I have resolved to buy no more) is 25% to 21% off at CW, PL and Pharmacy For Less.
Optislim and Optislim-Rapid are two for $55 and two for $65 respectively ALMOST all the time. They come in 21 packs (compared to Optifast at 18 per pack).

The wandering reference was that, at the gym I used to go to, there were three classes of employee/attedant.
    1. the person who runs a class or is an active personal trainer
    2. a desk-bound "clerk" who is a receptionist or enrolment person
    3. everyone else. The wanderers who close doors, mop messes, put weights away, wipe benches, etc.

I made a friend on here that had surgery back in May. She gave me this site to get the Protein Shakes from them and your insurance pays for it. She already got approved and received her shipment. I filled out the app on line waiting for the call. They don't accept government funded insurances like Medicaid or Medicare but they do private insurance and the affordable care act insurances.

Re your last sentence: yes, I am aware of that.
What my comment was alluding to was that his receptionist, his consultant dietitian or he himself might have workable strategies or advice for you.
Given what a few of the longer-serving, more-experienced responders have said, as a layman, it looks like you are (a) not doing enough relatively continuous water-sipping up to 20-30 mins BEFORE and 20-30 mins AFTER your designated meals (b) too much liquid/runny meal content (c) not enough chewable food that requires you to process it.
I COULD BE WRONG as I'M JUST A FAT BLOKE and NOT A MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL.

Rainbow_Warrior reacted to naturallyzee in How did you choose your goal weight?
I had my 6 month check up Tuesday. Doctor said I had exceeded their goal. Their goal for me was 175-207. This was based on a percentage of excess body weight. I'm about 202 now. I personally am just aiming for below 200. I don't have to be super thin. I don't want to look sickly. I don't want to go below 190. I want to be out of the obese category. At 202 pounds I look really thin. Everyone guesses that I weigh around 170. They are shocked when l tell them my weight. I'm afraid I will look terrible any lower than 190.

After a weight loss surgery the key ingredient is the amount of Protein that is in the powder(20-27 grams), then looking for high calories, fat(less than 3 grams), & carbs(5-7 grams). Oh & not to forget the TASTE, if it does not taste well it would not be consumed leaving you not getting your daily intake of protein 60 grams per day for women. Unjury is a whey isolate, not just whey, soy, casein, or made with pea flour. Sugars are high in most things consumed jellos, popscicles, yogurt, etc... starting a new weight loss journey we're eating far less and not able to eat foods that give us Vitamins & nutrients we generally need. Therefore we utilize supplements to give us what's missing i.e. Fiber, Iron, Calcium, B vitamins, Biotin in a nutshell vitamins & minerals.

    Thanks Doctor Adeyeri.
There's a lot of great tips in that very recent post.
I've taken a screenshot of the EIGHT TIPS part for personal reminder. (Actually SEVEN TIPS ... no #5 to see!)
BTW, I have been great at #1, #2 and #3 for 1275 days in a row.
Since I retired, I have been spot on with tip #7 ... my sleep now is nearly always in the range 7.75 to 9.25 hours daily plus a day nap of 50 to 90 minutes. (I'm almost 14 months retired from full-time work.)
#8 is very new to me but I have a good 90 day history and will build!
#4 has been hard ... switching from a Protein:Carbohydrate ratio of 1:2 to 4:3 is a very new thing. I have been phasing the change well over the last month and a half. (This very week is the first time I, the son and grandson of the district's finest bakers, have gone SIX days without so much as a slice of bread. I can't ever recall a time in my life I've previously gone longer than 30 hours without bread!)
#6 has been tough. I like liquids (... espresso coffee, black tea, peppermint tea, tonic Water and 5-10 beers per week) but water consumption has been in the back seat all my life. I'm drinking about a litre in three Protein Shakes plus about 2-4 tumblers of other water each day.
Hey, what was the missing #5?

I'm at a loss to know what you're referring to, celticNgel.
    I have posted my story.
I have responded to other people's weight loss news.
People have responded to me by offering me hope, advice or words of applause.
Of about 180 responses in ten days, only ONE has been negative.
Maybe, I'm guessing, you have entered the wrong forums.

This must make a lot of food addicted sleevers reticent to move forward.
I'm planning to stay away from my trigger foods or at least pre-plan their occasional appearance in my food diary.

    3. Practising the stretch in my Protein consumption.

    7. Ending my connection to high consumption bread and beer ... practising abstinence and minimisation.
    8. Warning "the trusted few" which signs to warn me of post-op.
    9. Stockpiling discounted Optifast and discounted Isowhey for shakes now, soon and later.
    10. Various other bits of self re-education.

Perhaps. I think clothes helps us look good. Without them, I think most people would look ugly. So the next time you visit a grocery store, imagine everyone without clothes (either that or visit a nudist colony). So don't beat yourself up on a little extra skin, it is what is inside that really counts.
