  1. Do you have a history of depression? I struggled with some regret/worry. (Wish I did this sooner. Wish I was genetically thin like others. Worried about failure.) If you are truly depressed talk to your doctor ASAP. You will heal better if you are controlled first.

Also are you on the milk diet yet? I struggled with that and fought with my hubs in a major way. Lots of "feelings" during that. Take your Vitamins, B and D can cause symptoms.

I am 2 weeks out and doing well and feeling good. Totally worth it.

  2. I understand I really need to give up the vape for the surgery and I will,, but the marijuana is medically necessary. I use them under my pain docs orders instead of opiates (which my body does not metabolize) and I know I won't be able to go off it. My pain doc would kill me.

The nicotine in your Vape will impair healing too. Ask for help from your doc if needed. Chantix worked for me, but can be hard to tolerate. Be strong. You can do this! Good luck. It's life changing.

  3. Smokers of any kind. The smoke damages your lungs, lung capacity and oxygen exchange putting you at risk for impaired wound healing, pneumonia, infection and sepsis. Yes this applies to nicotine AND marijuana AND vaping.

Do yourself a favor and quit. Yes I know it's hard, yes I used to smoke.

Edibles? Ehhhh dealers choice. Just make sure you can stay on program.

    Good luck!

  4. Hi August sleevers, I had my sleeve on 21 August 2017 and so far I'm down a total of 25 kg (I think that's about 55 pounds).
A question - how many calories a day are you consuming? I'm don't have an appointment with my NUT for a few more weeks and I'm interested to see how many calories others are consuming. I'm currently on minced /very soft food.
I'm confident getting sleeved is the best life decision I've ever made!

I am at about 600 calories still on full liquid at 9 days out. I am down 13lbs. Your loss is amazing. How many calories are you at now? I too am interested in this question.

  5. Thanks everyone. I will have to try ice. I have been using a heating pad. I expected a lil bit of pain but nothing like this.
I took Tylenol and it didn't even touch the pain. I am just going to have to deal with it. If it gets worse he will be hearing from me.

When I go to my next appointment I will definitely be bringing one of my parents.
Let's just say his mood hopefully will be better.

Stick to your guns and advocate for yourself. I also use liquid Tylenol, just don't use more than 4000mg in 24hrs. And I found ice was better than heat, heat made me ache more. Good luck and let us know how it went.

  6. I was shocked how amazing it was! Oral Tylenol does little for me so I didn't expect much... WOW and no nausea which I get from narcotics. Trouble is it's really expensive for some reason

It expensive long term but in the grand scheme of things it's not bad. 12$ a dose is what it was a few years ago. I checked into it when I worked ICU.

  7. I was never given a calorie goal, nor was I instructed to count calories. I am 2.5 years out, reached my goal weight and have been maintaining nicely.
Here's the theory...we are not on just another diet, and the practice of counting calories somewhat feeds into that dieters' mentality.
As long as you eat real food (lean Protein, non-starchy veggies, non-starchy fruits) you should have nothing to worry about. It's the processed junk such as chips, crackers and Cookies that promote weight regain. If you wish to re-introduce these into your diet, you'll need to track your calories.
    Good luck to you. [emoji4]

Thank you so much for this. I follow the diet and get my target protein, but the bariatric app I use to log also counts calories and I was afraid I was taking in too many.

  8. Thank you, I kept them covered today with non stick gauze and tape. I didn't even think about adding an ointment to keep them moist. Tomorrow I will add Vitamin e oil. Or would A&D ointment be better?? Thanks for the tip! Much appreciated [emoji173]️[emoji4]

Gauze is ok. Moisture is controversial and I would stick to your surgeon's recommendation, keeping things moist and covered with things like tagederm are not recommended, this is the perfect environment for infection as no air is moving through. Clean and dry using gauze (which allows airflow) secured with tape is ideal. If it doesn't improve in 2 weeks make an appointment. And as previously stated get your Protein and Water goals met to improve healing.

  9. Hi again, my deal will be outpatient. I go in one week from today at 5am then I go home sometime towards the end of day. I am curious what pain meds were you given while at the facility? Where they via an IV? I'm having a hiatal hernia surgery at same time and I'm not very tough. I'm worried about them controlling the pain?!

Usually it's liquid oxycodone but I tend to vomit that up so they gave me Dilaudid, I did call on day 4 and ask for Hydrocodone as it was too strong and made me loopy.

I am just surprised it's an outpatient surgery. I stayed 2 nights in the hospital.

  10. So I am 10 days out (which I know isn't far out) and I am in more pain now, then when I was in the hospital. I saw my Dr today and he said it's normal. I can only walk a little at a time and standing after a min or 2 it feels like someone is stabbing with a sharp heated knife. I have to find my breathe and I get lightheaded. I have a very high pain tolerance so to me maybe something is wrong.
I think the fact he acted like I was seeking pain meds pissed me off the most. I told him I am almost out of pain meds he gave me, just to show that I have had to take them due to the pain. I didn't want more even told him so. My dad was with me and he was very upset with the way I was being treated. He even stood up and told him the amount of pain I was in bc he clearly wasn't listening to me. My dad asked what else I could take bc I don't want the pain killers. Then the Dr said that he isn't going to write me a new script and just take Tylenol. He must have said I am not writing you a new script 3 times.
I was in tears when I got out to the car. All I wanted was to make sure everything is ok. I was fine with Tylenol. He was just so rude and didn't want to listen to what I was saying. All he did was push on 2 spots on my stomach. I am worried about it and have the right to ask about it and tell him what I have or haven't been able to do. I hope things go better at my next 1 month follow up.
Has anyone else been in a lot of pain (not due to gas pain) but actual muscle pain? If so what did you do to help with the pain? I am willing to try anything. I am not regretting it yet but if this pain keeps up I don't know what my thoughts would be.

I am so sorry this is your experience. Keep taking someone with you to your appts. Write out your concerns and questions before you go in, if he isn't listening, hand him the paper.

Also ask if you can see a PA next time instead.

I am 7 days out and still hurt pretty bad, I just had my appt and was told to keep taking my pain meds and expect relief in the next 1-2 weeks. I also use large gel ice packs to my abdomen every 20 mins. I brace the site when I move and prop a small pillow under it if I sleep on my side. You might call and ask if you could get/wear an abdominal binder.< br>
If the pain is too unbearable, go to ER.

  11. I had my sleeve on 29 th and honestly I'm having a hard time I guess I'm just missing food and I eat more than my body wants so today I tried to really listen to my body and eating wasn't as painful but It's just harder than I expected and more emotional...

If you have emotional ties to eating you should consider counseling to help support you on this journey. That being said, I had mine 8/31 and have felt deprived at all yet, probably because I battled more pain than expected.

I don't know if you started on clear liquid or full liquids but I started on full liquids and Tomato Soup made with milk has been awesome when I feel hungry. I try and sip Protein Shakes throughout the morning and evening, drinking 1/2 a premiere shake at a time. Also smooth light yogurt is helpful, but I can eat more than I think I should (1/2 a container).

Hang in there, things will normalize for us and the weight loss and health will be worth it.

  12. Understandably, but I would think it's a legal thing too. And wouldn't they need to have biomedical (or whatever the hospital calls them) check out the equipment to ensure they it's safe and properly functioning? I mean RT could make sure that the therapy is working but they're surely not qualified to make sure the machine itself is safe and properly functioning

Definitely valid points. I'm not sure why my facility isn't concerned about any of that.

The R Ts don't need special training to run them because most function the same way. They did stress the cpap must be clean and in good working order. I bet they send it home if not.

I don't get the mask thing, unless they provide a similar mask. I would hate to wear a full face mask especially after surgery with increased risk of air in the gut. Anyway, I would just follow the hospital policy. At least it's one less thing to haul in at your facility.

  13. Hi trying4me!! How are you doing? How are things going for you at home? Today I woke up nearly feeling like myself and it's fantastic. Struggling to get all 64 oz of liquids down but am getting closer to it everyday!!! I can get the Protein and stay within my calories no problem though. It was really painful to drink until today. I think it was still the gas from the surgery that was doing it. I am taking small drinks today and everything seems to going down pretty well for the most part. I even was able to to do housework and laundry today [emoji4].... I hope everything is going as well for you!!!

Hey lovedrotten! So glad things are going well at home. Last night I chased pain but today I feel better. I think I tried to tapper off narcs too soon. I am hitting my Water and protein goals. What is your caloric goal? I don't have one set. But I am under 500kcal. I did some like housework and laundry too! Felt good to move more. I am in Washington state about 30 miles from the Eagle Creek fires and our air quality is awful, so all my walking has been inside. Bummer!

Do you have a divette in one of your incisions that hurts the most?

Keep working on that water. I am cheering for you. Oh and if you like Tomato Soup, a half cup is very satisfying right now.

  14. I'm the opposite. I can drink an 11 oz premier shake in about 2 minutes. Water and other fluids are more annoying cause it's like I'm a hamster constantly sipping.

@janet610 have you guys tried flavoring your water with lemon or even the kool-aid squeeze bottles? This might help. I know I love water but only drink distilled so I took my own gallon to the hospilal and put it over cups of ice in a coffee cup with a lid so I could pour it into my medicine cups. This all helped.

  15. Weird how some hospitals let you bring your machine. Where I work they don't let you even bring in your own mask, since the hospital would need to liable for any of your equipment and anything that happens from you using it. Not to mention the staff would need to be trained on it as well

It can be a cost measure, and RT and my facility comes and checks them out on the first night only. Also patients are more compliant with their own equipment. I know I would be.
