  1. I had very very little pain post op. Someone asked me if I felt like there was a 'void' where they took out the stomach. that made me laugh actually. kind of makes sense that I would, but nope. anyways. I KNOW it's a smaller 'eating' stomach because a few bites of something and i'm full. instead of a normal sized dinner plate, I have a teacup saucer that I eat off of. and cant always finish what I put on it.

    Scars 6 months out

i'm 3 weeks out. the small ones are pretty light. I have one bigger one (about 1 inch) that is still pretty dark red. they all itch too. i'm putting on some Neosporin to help with the itch, but other than that i'm a slow healer so i'm not concerned. As soon as i'm cleared to go swimming, into the ocean I go. that might help too. If you don't live near the ocean, try some sea salt and make a salt water solution to promote healing.

    Protein shakes

At first, Atkins. but there's not enough protein so I've switched to Premier Protein. one trick I've used, if you don't like the taste or consistency of a certain shake, add a squirt of one you DO like. I find that helps.

How are you treated by your mate!!!

My husband was supportive before surgery. But what I didn't realize is how nervous he was about it all. Turns out, he was thinking of his Mother then entire time. Years ago she had gone in for a breast reduction, and had a stroke on the table. Her health went steadily downward from there until she pass several years later. He had that on the brain, but didn't share it with me beforehand. I found out from other family members AFTER my sleeve was done. Try to get your other 1/2 to share what they're feeling. You may be completely surprised why they are acting they way they are.

    Cold feet

For me it was a 2 year journey to get my surgery (insurance issues). but when I got my date I nearly did a jig of glee! I had very little nervousness. I was too pumped up to FINALLY get it!

    Experimenting before dr Allows😳

My doctor also had me stop all meds before surgery. now, post op, I haven't had to return to anyone of them, except 1. Stopping the meds was in my pre-surgery packet of instructions.

    High blood sugar .. still

Pre op I hovered around 150. so it's hard to see numbers over 200. but i'm working on it. and my surgeon encouraged me not to get discouraged. As it turns out the Atkins shakes were not the source, it's likely just the shock of the surgery and the body adjusting. I'm close to being cleared for exercising so that will help too.
  9. for the first week I was liquid only, but in the 2nd week I started to nibble on really soft things like scrambled egg and pureed stewed tomato. it was fine.

    High blood sugar .. still

I'm thinking it may be the Atkins shakes. going to skip them for a day or two and see what happens. yesterday after having one, my BG was 330! never had a reading that high before surgery.

    High blood sugar .. still

i was type 2 and insulin dependent before surgery. was really hoping to believe the information that says the surgery would put it into remission, so far no dice. 9 lbs lost, maybe in time it will fade away. any other diabetics out there?
  12. same happened to me, but it should end soon. try to sip liquids slower and in smaller amounts. that pain will go away too. i'm 12 days out and all of those things are gone now. hang in there!
  13. i'm 1 week post op and have had what I think is a really easy time of it. no pain so far.. except last night and today. when I take a sip of fluids (clear) i'm getting a pain, kind of cramp like, for a few seconds. anyone else experience this?

    post op pain with fluid

I've been able to tolerate cold, warm and room temperature. It got better this morning after a walk.

    May 2018 losers bench

i'm 4 days post op and have had near diarrhea for all my BM's. other than that it's been pretty good. pain is very minimal. and i just realized that i havent had any diabetic foot pain since op day. yay! i'm off ALL pre op meds. now just on ritidine (sp?) to protect against gall stones. stuff tastes horrible! but the lesser of 2 evils i guess. i still nap a lot.

    ursodiol?

I found out yesterday that there's a script of ursodiol waiting for me at the pharmacy. No mention of it from my surgeon who i just saw yesterday morning. I looked it up and it's for preventing gall stones. Anyone else have to take this or something similar? I have a call in to him to find out the details.. no idea when i'm supposed to start taking it, how long etc. weird.

    ursodiol?

Thanks everyone! I don't have stones currently - and the surgeon set the script. So I guess i'll pick it up tonight.
  18. I'll be putting a little bag together this weekend (surgery is tuesday). Chapstick is on the list. a book. my phone. and my going home clothes. my own fluffy sleeping socks. maybe a small pad of paper and a pen for thoughts and questions. I've asked people to NOT send flowers. I dont want to sneeze! Send me a card instead. or better yet, stop by in a few days and vac my house LOL
  19. got my crocs.. easy on easy off. Biotene - good idea! it's only a 2 day stay so i'll leave the charger at home.

    Appetite control pre op

Same. my 2 week pre op diet isn't all liquid. I can have shakes, protein bars, fruit and veggie. problem is, most protein bars have chocolate in them and that's a HUGE no no for me. it has sparked bad eating habits. I've got 1 week to go and I had to cut them from my meals. I replaced them with home made soup instead. it kind of surprised me. I had burgers and dogs over the weekend. but as of this morning i'm putting my own foot down. the last thing I want is for my liver to be too large and get denied the surgery. so i'm peptalking myself. I can do this!

    It’s getting real!!!

my surgery is May 29th, so I have the long weekend for any last min thing I haven't thought of. not nervous but instead sooooo ready to get it done!
  22. I've been prepping my house like crazy! serious deep cleaning because I envision myself resting after surgery and seeing a dirty corner and wanting to jump up and clean it. And if done a bunch of cook n freeze for my husband and son (20 yrs old) because .. you know.. they have no idea where the kitchen is. duh. they'll be FINE. But we moms have to take care of everyone else. I have chicken broth, turkey broth, various shakes, all waiting for me in the pantry. The only thing I wonder is what to bring to the hospital with me. I have a small list: a book to read, because day time tv stinks, toothbrush and paste, comfy clothes to go home in, my cell phone so I can text my office that I survived, insurance card and ID. what else????

I swore it wouldn't be me

Thanks for posting! I'm in the same mind set - my surgery is 7 days away and of course i'm keeping good thoughts. Pain will be a breeze, eating will be a breeze, hydrating will be a breeze. but in the background i'm concerned of course that it wont all go that easily.

    Clothes Funeral

I'm 1 week away from my surgery, and have lost 24 lbs of presurgery weight. I have already started pulling certain things from my closet that are simply too big now. But at the moment i'm enjoying it. We have a good will nearby and i'll be going there this coming weekend to pick up a few things. Tops I can fake for a while longer, but pants are literally falling off of me. I will miss a few certain pieces, and have looked around at having some things altered. not really worth it though. it's all part of the journey. My stress is coming more from seeing family whom I only see once a year. Some of them don't yet know that i'm having this done and will be in shock when they see me for the first time, months after the weight has come off.

    worst headache ever

I'm pre op but starting to get head aches as well. for me, it's lots of fluids and an ice pack to my head and neck that seem to work.
