Dating after surgery and weight loss

Single AF. Still overweight. Recently joined tinder but the men only seem to want hook ups.

    It’s hard to believe...

    Congratulations!!!!!
  4. I don’t know how you’re handling not having scales or an apartment!!! I have to have my environment perfect to cope with the struggle of post surgery life! If I didn’t have a kitchen, I would eat all my meals out!!!
  5. I feel like I’m in the same boat as you! I hope I’m a 12 though when I get down to 200lbs! That would be amazing. My stomach is also huge still and my boobs are gone. I’m thinking 180lb would be an amazing first goal. I’ll probably sob uncontrollably when I hit Onderland tho. Congrats on the huge success! Thanks hun! I know you’re going to have huge success! Being a US 12-14 feels amazing. I am tall though (so I’m not suggesting others can expect to be there at 200+ pounds). I can get into size 12 or 32 inch waist jeans and they seem so tiny to me now. I’m anxiously waiting for Onederland! It’s funny because I was losing like 6-8 pounds a week after my surgery, so to me, 3 pounds sounds like nothing but I lose weight much slower now! I miss the rapid weight loss days!
  6. Lol! Come join me! I don’t mind if you run through a nudist Park! We’re losing weight so we can live our lives on our own terms!! I think it’s really hard to know what your goal should be. My family is convinced this is the thinnest I’ve ever been, but I did get to a lower weight on the scale a couple of years ago. I don’t know if 10-20 pounds of my current weight is just loose skin (when you start at 340lb+, there’s loose skin), also our bodies change and redistribute as we get older. That’s why I’m less worried about BMI calculators and more about being comfortable in my own (rather loose) skin!
  7. Hi lovely ladies! I'm about 9 months post- op. My starting weight was 343 pounds and I'm around 203 pounds now. So I've lost 140 pounds in total. My BMI was over 50 when I started and it's now 29-30, depending on my luck on the scale each morning. When you start at a higher weight, you have to lose a lot of weight before you go down a size. I've gone from a US size 26 to a US size 12-14. I've got yucky arms. My stomach is still HUGE and what's left of my boobs are hanging around my belly. RIP titties. To get to a healthy body weight, I would have to lose a little more than 50% of my original starting weight. I don't know if that's possible. I would like to lose another 20 pounds or so. That would be enough for me, even though I would still technically be overweight. My VSG honeymoon phase is the same as the ladies who start with only 50-100 pounds to lose in total. So I feel extra pressure to get. it. done.
  8. Yes. I'm way less sweaty. One of my "I'm going to do the surgery moments" was when I was sweating - very literally through a job interview. Now I'm freezing all the time. I don't know if it's permanent - I'm about 9 months post op.
  9. Thanks Cloebird! Very nervous to post that. My family tells me I look different but I don’t always see it. Wearing exact same leggings in before and after. Now they’re a bit loose and wrinkly!
  10. Before: (August 2017) 155.5kg (343 lb) May 2018 - 92.3kg (203.5 lb)
  11. My surgeon said most of his patients are on antidepressants (they are possibly overprescribed in Australia and also, depression/anxiety is a bit of a comorbidity with morbid obesity) and he’s never seen it prevent anyone from losing weight. I currently take prednisone (which generally makes you gain weight like crazy) and antidepressants and I’ve lost weight. Lots and fairly quickly. And I’ve done so without exercising much because I’ve had rheumatoid arthritis. I don’t want to trivialize the feelings of anyone who does take medication that causes them to struggle. I would say that (in my experience) you can still overcome it if you work hard. So I wouldn’t worry (I don’t think you’ll have any problems if your antidepressant isn’t even known for weight gain) but use this awareness as extra motivation to distinguish real hunger from head hunger.
  12. Lol. I use MyFitnessPal. I do think there is something that connects through the brain when you physically put pen to paper though!

    Emotional!!

Sending you hugs and love! Hope you feel better soon! X
  14. You look so lovely! I find those before and after so inspiring but I’m always too scared to post mine in case people don’t see any actual weight loss! Lol!

    Clothes Funeral

I only allow myself to buy one pair of jeans in any new size (and basically no other pants). Dresses are easier because they fit for longer. You can wear them with a belt or cardigan, even when they’re two sizes two big. I like the look of oversized tops so they’re fine too. Although, if tops are too big it can be unflattering, so I’ll throw on a blazer that fits well. I haven’t donated clothes in ages. I just keep them in a huge tragic pile. Not sure why but there’s some emotional block and I can’t get rid of them! Sometimes my puppy lies on the pile of big clothes.
  16. I was given a personalized protein target (based on my height and weight) but no calorie target. In my 9 months, my calories have ranged from roughly 800 - 1500 calories. When I hit a stall, I experiment, and go up or down. More than counting calories, my advice would be to educate yourself on nutrition and get cooking. It’s easy to lose weight right after the surgery but you need to develop good habits for the years to come when the surgery honeymoon stage is over.

    Hair???

I am very jealous of anyone who didn’t experience the weight loss. I lost a lot of hair. It does grow back though. I’m 9 months out and I have one and a half inch strands growing out all over my scalp. It pushes my hair up into a weird looking teased 1980s like hair do.

    Emotional!!

Yes! It’s normal to get depressed and moody after any surgery. WLS made me super emotional and hormonal. You can also expect messed up periods.

    Dry skin and hair

I got the dry skin on the face. It even started peeling. It was not nice to apply foundation over. It kept my makeup a huge mess. My skin eventually went back to normal (or how it was before the surgery rather). I don’t know if it was hormonal. I don’t think I’m drinking any more water than I was when it happened. I ended up buying all these intense moisturizers and hydrating masks - which definitely helped. Origin and Clinique make good products. If you’re on a budget, bio oil might do the trick. I have acne prone skin so I’m too scared to try that. Keep drinking water and taking your vitamins. It can’t hurt. Also, I swear my skin is better when I eat heaps of carrots!!
  20. You should listen to your body and keep seeking help. We know when something isn’t right. I really hope things improve for you! Congratulations on the huge weight loss!

    Protein Powder

I use unflavoured whey protein powder (it's cheap and has like zero carbs). I can add it to smoothies and sweet and savoury dishes. When I make a smoothie, I'll add cocao powder, honey, fruit or other things to flavour it. You can throw in peanut butter or coffee or whatever. I can also stir it into chili or soups and not taste it. I have to admit that I use a cheap generic supermarket brand but there are lots of options.
  22. I was sleeved last August and I've lost more than 60kg (130 pounds) and I have stalled SO many times. It honestly feels like I'm ALWAYS in a stall. It's just part of the journey. Don't let the scale get you down. As long as you do your part, the surgery will work.
  23. I wish I was strong enough to do this. I’m just so addicted to the scales!

    Holy shit...what do i do?

I don’t have any advice but I’m so sorry this happened to you! It’s no one’s business! People can be so terrible. Sending you big hugs!
  25. Thanks for sharing! Really thought provoking.
