Subaru got a reaction from tankheadmommy in December 2017 Gastric Bypass!
Absolutely everything is done. All my pre-op tests. Blood typing. Pre-op visit with anesthesia. Instructions given for showering with hibiclens and sleeping in clean sheets the night before. All. Done.
Now I have 8 days until my clear liquid pre-op day, and 9 days until surgery. A week and a half to just get nervous and stress.

I am in New Zealand, and my instructions were more vague than the ones I see posted here. Here we do almost no gastric surgery in public hospitals (most healthcare is free, public) so people pay to do it privately (here private hospitals, and insurance, is for things that are non essential, or where you don’t want to be on a wait list eg for a new hip for months). My private insurance paid 25% - they had no pre surgery requirements - decide to do it, op within a month. I paid 75%
My post op plan is clear about the need to transition from clear liquid - liquids - purée - Mash - soft food, but the timetable is all up to me. And it isn’t as clear as it could be about the pace of eating/drinking, I think. So I have lifted a set from this forum, and am happily sticking to those. My surgeon was ok with it, but also ok with setting my own timetable. I am happier being directed - after all, making good food choices isn’t exactly my thing, right? 🤣🤣🤣

I'm probably repeating what others have said, but the forum is being wonky and not letting me access past page one, so here goes:
My insurance only required that my surgeon recommend the surgery. I first met with the surgeon on 10/04 and will be going in for surgery on 12/28. That time frame includes waiting one month for my NUT visit and one month for my upper GI and EKG. Without those two wait periods I probably could have been in at least a month a go.
The program I am going through does require sign off by the nutritionist (and she often has people come in at least 3 times). It also requires psych and at least two pre-op approved support group meetings. (These things are regardless of insurance requirements.) Both the group and my NUT provided really great information. That said, I'm a researcher and have gotten much of my info from the web before even having any of those meetings. My being well-informed and pro-active shortened my time with my NUT (just one visit). Is that a good thing or a bad thing? I could argue both sides.
In any case, I think my point was that it's just so much information for someone to take in, and there is a difference between reading about it and doing it. I have no pre-op diet requirement (other than the day before) and I have not been diligent about practicing some of the new habits I have to become comfortable with. I don't kid myself into thinking this is going to be easy, but I can see how some folks move into this without getting (as in "getting it") all the details they need, and not really through any fault of their program.
    Wow that was long winded!

Congrats! I had my pre-admission appointment this morning as well so it's starting to feel very real (and a little nerve-wracking). My period started today which has made the liquid diet particularly tough (oh god, I want chocolate) but I'm hanging in...

Hey surgery buddy! I'm probably on the same timeline as you!
I'm eating my surgeon/RD specified diet. Losing the specified amount of weight. Doing PT to re-build my strength and help my balance issues. Walking daily. Researching the hell outta dis. Annoying everyone on Bariatric Pals by over-posting and posting as if I know something about anything when I haven't even had surgery yet.
I've bought Protein, tested it, and stocked up. Tested and purchased my Vitamins. Made Bone Broth and stewps. Cooked meats and put them away. Bought the cutest little silicone freezer trays that have lids so I can easily freeze 1/2cup of food at a time. Have darling little glass food storage containers at the ready.
And there might have been some shenanigans involving wine and homemade olive oil/truffle popcorn while watching Christmas Vacation on Saturday night...but it's all foggy to me...

I’m a huge procrastinator and I also try not to dwell on things. So I planned my surgery, researched it, did my doctor’s orientation and then kind of put it to the back of mind. I tried to eat healthier and be active, but I didn’t beat myself up on days I didn’t do so well (also note, my surgeon didn’t require a preop diet. Just liquids the day before surgery). I went on vacation, I visited family, I was out of town a lot. I actually forgot about one of my preop appointments and some tests that needed to be done, luckily I remember just in time. About a week out I sent my MIL about post op stuff since she was coming down to be with me.

I have that husband, too. He met me when I was around 275-ish and 40, and chased my tail every day since. I made it up to 323 and he never acted like I was anything less that a freaking supermodel. He's never said anything about my weight except "I think you're perfect the way you are, but if YOU want to lose weight, I'll help you in any way that I can." And he does. When I went on my pre-band diet for a week, he went on it with me - because "it's hard to do alone". He's still on a very low-carb diet with me now, because he wants to support me and go through what I'm going through. And because he feels that he could stand to lose weight anyway - why not try to keep up with my wife? Lol.
I would tell a man I was dating eventually - but no, not right off the bat. I'd tell him because in a real relationship, you want to know everything about each other - and this is a big part of your life and what you've gone through. If he really likes you, he'll be like, "Oh,... cool. Good for you!" It's amazing to me how little men care about how you go to be who you are today. If they like you now, they're thankful for anything that got you to be this person. They couldn't care less about what you do for a job, or why you have that scar there. If they like you, they like you.
I hope that you can see yourself as someone who attacked a problem when you didn't like something about yourself. You didn't just get surgery to fix it; you got surgery and then did the necessary work to take the weight off. The food you're eating now is different in quantity and type than what you were eating before - YOU did the work. You were willing to do the work so much so that you took drastic measures to make sure the issue was solved. And as a result of your tenacity and hard work, you're healthier and likely more beautiful (inside and out). You are to be applauded, and I bet he'll agree. If he doesn't, then he's not the right man for you.

I'm the lucky one. My hubster is the cat's pajamas on crack. The man has the patience of God...lol. Wouldn't trade him in for an international super model movie star. He's the peas to my carrots. And he makes me laugh.

Personally, if a guy would write me off because I was a little heavy....I wouldn't give him the time of day. I've got no time for shallow asshats. Beauty fades, people get old, if you're not primarily attracted to the heart and mind...the whole relationship has a superficial ick factor that, frankly....feels empty and sort of gross to me. I want more. I deserve more. (And thank God I got more...25 years with a guy who begged for sex nightly when I was 270 and thought I was the sexiest thing on the planet cause he's in love with my smarts and creativity and heart)
Someday, when we're 75 and wrinkled prune people with fat little tummies and scrawny limbs...I know he's still gonna find me hot and be endlessly amused by my company. That matters. That's love.

Don't tell until you see him face to face for awhile. Seriously...and don't give "it" away, on the first meeting. Make him wait and work for it honey! Then once you're sure of his "need to know" status, you can tell him. You will know when you meet him in person...if he turns out to be a schmuck, why waste your angst?

When I called today and said "I know you are super busy and don't need me calling you" she said (in what sounded like a very sincere voice God love her) "no, you know I don't mind!" She started after my first appt. with my surgeon, so I haven't met her. But she's a gem!
