Jobri66! reacted to Introversion in Cut Calories and Excercise and no weight loss
I notice you eat an excessive amount of carbohydrates for someone with PCOS who is attempting to lose weight. Sweet potatoes, oatmeal, brown rice, pastas, etc.
The hallmark of PCOS is insulin resistance. Those with insulin resistance remain in perpetual fat-storage mode when they don't curtail their carb intake. The manner in which you're eating stimulates a continual stream of insulin production, thereby keeping your fat stores from being burned off. Therefore, you won't lose weight.
Think of it this way...carbs are the easy, preferential way for your body to burn for fuel and energy, so why would it waste precious effort metabolizing your stored body fat when it obtains all the energy it needs from the constant stream of starches you feed it?
My advice is to curtail your carb intake ASAP. Good luck to you.

Mine is scheduled for August 16! I keep going back and forth between being really nervous and really excited! Just can't wait to be done with surgery and recovery and start this new journey! I am trying to get into a workout routine now.

Jobri66! reacted to RickM in Hiatal Hernia! Help please!
I would be inclined to get a second opinion on this. As you can see from other posts here (and in many other threads) a hiatal hernia repair is very common combined with any of these WLS procedures, and I haven't seen any comments overall that recovery from a hernia/sleeve surgery is markedly different than from a sleeve alone or from a bypass (there might be a small difference for some, but nothing major.) Even if the pain is a bit worse, is avoiding a short term pain increase (which can be medicated) worth getting a procedure that you aren't comfortable with?
It sounds like this doc is more comfortable doing bypasses than sleeves, which is not uncommon given that the sleeve is the newer procedure and many docs don't have that much experience with it yet. This is fine if you want a bypass, but if you want a sleeve, or are on the fence between the two, it would be best to seek the opinion of a surgeon who is more experienced with the sleeve, even if it means delaying things a bit - much better to take a bit more time now to be sure than regret things for the rest of your life.

Jobri66! reacted to YeaMe in 6 Month Check Up - Almost to Goal (yea me)
I went today for my 6 month check up - down 72 lbs per the doctor's scale and I am no longer considered overweight! My surgeon said I was a star pupil as I am 6 lbs from goal. I now think I will probably go lower than my original goal, as getting in over 1,000 calories a day would have me eating ALL day long and that sounds like a lot of work and no time to get in liquids. I will see how things look and feel. I have appointed my daughter as the one to tell me if I need to level out and stop losing. My friends thought I was too thin 10 lbs ago. Really, too thin at 170! I think not.
I spoke with the nutritionist and asked her where I should go from here in relation to food. She said do exactly what you are doing. She said to get in at least 100g of Protein (400 Calories), 40g of fat (360 calories) and 50-100g of carbs (200-400 calories). Right now I average 50g carbs, 105g protein, 20g fat which equals out to around 800 calories a day. Sounds like I could be adding butter to my dishes!
This is such an amazing journey and I know it will continue. Best thing I have ever done for myself. Only regret is I didn't do it sooner!
