I haven't heard of the doctor, but congrats on your surgery being scheduled. I just got mine done on the third and I'm a Texan too.

Hi Charli, Welcome to the forum. I was banded on this past Thursday, This is a great forum and I think you will really learn a lot and make lot of friends on this site. I think this site is alos useful for pre-op as well. You can see what to expect and how other people are fairing through the approval process etc.
  3. Congrats on your success. I know that there are a lot of us that could learn from you if you wouldn't mind sharing your tip and tricks. Welcome to the forum.

    Amanda's surgery 4-2-08

Amanda, You experience sounds just bout like a photocopy of mine on April 3rd. How is the pain going for you now? I'm still on mine, though not everytime I'm due for it. I take it when I've overdone it. Yetserday we went to Walmart, CVSa nd GNC. I thought I was going to die when I got back home. How's sleeping going for you? I've got insomnia and aren't sure what to do about it.
  5. Here's my suggestion: make out a food diery of what you are eating and how much of it. That will help you figure out if there is an issue with diet. Next look at water intake. Thirid, be firm with your fill guy, tell him what you want and that you are concerned. I hope this helps
  6. I got banded four days ago and researched it for about a year before I got it. I think you neighbor is the exception to the rule. The key to eating anything is to chew, chew, chew.

    do your feet shrink?

I was in a wide size shoe, but now am normal width.
  8. Hello. I'm one day post op too. The spirometer is used to prevent pnemonia. However, I'm beginning to think it is some kind of medieval pain device to increase gas pain in shoulders and tummys. I know you probably are feeling like you got hit by a mack truck today, but I'm betting you are feeling better than yesterday. I know tomorrow you will feel even better than today. Try walking around your house and moving around, but don't forget to rest. I wish you luck and hope you feel better soon. :cursing:
  9. Surgery completed! I am having pain in my neck and I feel like I got hit by a Mack truck. However, I'm fine. Really tired. The spirometer is hard to do.
  10. Thanks dor asking this question. I'm having my surgery tomorrow and was wondering the same thing.
  11. How long do I have to wait until I can swim after getting the band?
  12. Hi I'm Shannon. I go into surgery April 3rd. I've been on the pre-op diet for three weeks. I can't wait to get this overwith. I'm ready to start eating small multiple times a day and learning what it's going to take to lose the weight and keep it off.

Good luck to you as well. Please let me know how it goes when you get up and around again.
  14. Can someone give me an example of the first few days after surgery? I know liquids fifteen days, then mushy, then a little more substance, but I'm feeling a bit anxious. I'm a big planner. I don't want my mom or husband having to go to the grocery store or phamcy every five minutes. I'd like to have everything necessary on hand prior to my surgery this Thursday. Also, I've hear that the GasX strips are a must. Where can those be bought? Lastly, I've read some of y'all did a two day clear liquid diet prior to the band. My doc hasn't said anything about that yet. I've been doing the protein shake bit with one meal of chicken, salad and steamed veggies. It hasn't been bad. Oops... one more thing. Has anyone had any issues with infection at the surgical incisions. I'm selective IGA- it's an imunity deficiency that I was born with. I'm concerned and want to make sure I take the appropriate steps so that I don't mess up the healing process.

    Swimming post banding

Goodness. I just saw your tracker! You are almost there! Congrats! I appreciate yoru reply. I'm calling my doctor tomorrow about getting a list. Dr. C knows about the selective IGA. I wanted to make sure he knew before being approved for surgery.
  16. Gosh, I'm glad you asked this question. I'm getting banded this Thursday. I've setup vacation from Thursday to the following Wednesday. I've been nervous about recovery time. Thanks for asking the question

    Feeling Guilty!!

Don't beat yourself up over this. I've occaisionally had thoughts like, " If I just didn't eat this or that, I wouldn't have to be banded too." What I've realized is that beating myself up doesn't help. I'm, doing the responsible thing by getting banded. I want to see my daughter graduate from college, get married, have her own children and grow old with my husband happily. In order to do that, I need to take drastic measures. I'm getting banded this Thursday. I've done all of the diets before, Jenny Craig, NutriSystem, Atkins, etc. I need a permanent solution. That's why I'm doing this. You should feel good that you are making a decision to better your health, feel and look better. So again, don't beat yourself up, you are doing something very good. You are taking care of your health.
