  1. I met my surgery for an initial consultation and then completed all the insurance requirements and a month before my surgery I met with the surgeon again to ensure that I was ok and to get a more concrete date on the books for surgery. I had the option to have surgery 2 weeks later but opted for a latter date and was sleeved on 12/22.

    Good luck on your journey!

  2. I have BCBS and I was approved within 24 hours and I gained a whopping 5 LBs my 5th month in my pre-op appointments.

Don’t worry so much they look at initial weight as a factor for approval and you can call the insurance company to get very specific details of what you’re required to do to ensure you get approved.

Not sure what your company wants by my BCBS NY only wanted psych evaluation, 6 months of PCP weigh-ins and medical clearance from primary physician and like I said my approval was completed with 24 hours and I was sleeved 1 week ago 12/22

  3. Thank you to everyone that responded...
I’m doing a lot better than I thought I would.... Surgery was quick and easy... no major pain just soreness at the incisions and surprisingly I’m getting my fluids in, although I do have to constantly remind myself to drink Water, etc. Hoping I advance in diet when I see her for my 1 week post-op check up!

Thank you all for the well wishes

  4. Before I took my leave I was already on clear liquid diet so I started losing weight. People already was telling me that the weight was coming off. I told a couple people at my job that I had to get a hernia remove. You know people like talking so that gave them something to talk about. My last day at work my co-workers was saying make sure you stay on your diet while you out cause you looking good. I even gave a few people a fake diet I was using. Lol I only told my husband and daughters

Yea... I️ told my husband that I️ would tell people a hernia removal as well but he seemed skeptical and wasn’t a 100% on board with that one. I’m starting my liquid diet and will start bringing my gym bag to work just in case people ask.

  5. I am going into my 3rd month of the supervised diet, and I'm embarrassed too go tho my appointment on Wednesday. I know I didn't lose any weight and I may have gained a pound. I only did well about 3 to 4 weeks in and then want able to keep to the diet. If I could lose weight by someone weighing me once a month and telling me to eat low carb, high Protein, low cal, nutritiously, etc I wouldn't be in this process. How many of you actually lost weight in the pre op 6 months? I feel like a failure and it's discouraging me from thinking I can ever be successful.

Do not get discouraged I️ maintained my weight for most of my weigh ins but at my 5th month I️ gained 5 lbs.... I️ was freaking out but the surgeon said not to stress because she uses the initial weight to gain insurance approval and my BMI was 40.69 at that time. She did inform me that because she is submitting my initial weight I’ll still need to lose 5% of that weight prior to my surgery day.

I️ would say just double check with your insurance company to ensure they don’t have a NO-Weight gain clause in your policy to obtain approval.

    Best of luck

  6. I’ve only told a handful of people that I️ am having WLS but of course people are going to ask about the weight loss and I’d prefer to keep it quiet just to avoid the opinions of those who are possible nay-sayers! Just wondering what are you telling people as you go through the different phases of WL surgery and recovery?
