I may be a newbie at VSG, but I am an old lady and the only person you should ever compare yourself too is the person you used to be. No one has walked in our shoes but us. You have an incredibly busy life and have not even had time to fully recover yet...cut yourself some slack and it will get better. You can do this.

Huh.. the chew and spit usually happens preop....
Use this as a warning about the strength of head hunger and how it impacts you. If this continues past the first month or so, you will want some counseling. No judgement coming from me.. this whole journey is TOUGH, and sometimes we may need a bit of help.
Once you move on to purees and soft foods, it should get much better
In the meantime, try making homemade broth.. that will give you a break from all the sweet shakes. liquid yogurt and kefir might be a nice change of pace too. Herbal tea comes in a ton of different flavors as well.

It isn't easy. Ever. But I am glad I get to restart every morning and say today is going to be a good day full of self control. So far I've only had 2 days where I fell and ate foods that I shouldn't have. I'm only 3.5 weeks out so I anticipate those will happen from time to time. Both things happened on the same day. The next day I brushed myself off and started over making sure to get my fluids and Protein in. I know that there are foods I just can't have around- others aren't a problem. pizza and pie are the 2 that just can't happen for me. But ice cream, chips, soda. candy so far I haven't even been tempted yet. I'm sure as I become more active and lose more weight I'll have other motivations for sticking with it as well. And I have you all here to pull me through it. Thanks!

I have to agree with @Pam_2-06-2017. You have to find the strength and perseverance within yourself to do what you need to do to reach your goals. It's as simple as that. My partner lost 115 pounds from February 2016 until December 2016. That time period was my six month pre-op diet program and three months of post-op life. He got to his goal of 200 pounds (he's 6'1"). At that time (end of December 2016), I weighed about 250ish, and still had a ways to go to get to my goal. Since then, he has eaten what he wants (and gained some weight back, too). Crap is in the house all of the time. He wants fast food, so we go through a drive-thru. You know what? I buy it at the store for him. I hand him the credit card in the drive-thru line. I hold the ice-cream cone while he gets situated in the car. But I don't eat any of it, because I know that isn't what I am supposed to do.
The mental part of this game (whether it is pre-op, immediately post-op, or 2 years out) is the hardest part, and where the war is won. I wish you the best as you continue. I'd recommend working with a psychologist and/or a nutritionist to help you get re-started. Having an experienced person to talk to often really helps.

Why is it that mom's feel guilty if we're even thinking about doing something for ourselves? I have officially gotten over that:-). I am the shopper in my home so what comes in is all up to me. If junk gets through my door it better be eaten quick or it will disappear. Honestly!
I am nearly 5 months post op so I'm still pretty honeymoon about it. But at this point my family likes the person I've become so appealing to them for understanding is pretty easy. I guess they are also in the honeymoon stage:-/
i still allow some things as my teen-aged son and husband with ravenous appetites and no weight problems need calories. So I practice resisting. I have introduced a few things back into my home and intentionally resisted. I don't beat myself up about it. Things I'm proud to resist are ice cream, crackers, tortilla chips... that doesn't mean I don't eat it. I resist it. Example: if I think about the ice cream in the fridge I resist. But when my son has a bowl I ask him to serve me a bowl with three tablespoons and savor every spoonful and log it in my journal. I want to build a healthy relationship with food.
At two years out nobody has to tell you how to eat or how to get over your addiction. You know the plan. You have to find that mojo within yourself that moved you in the direction of WLS. Food addiction sucks but you have a great tool to help you get it under control.
    Take care

Just checking in. Hope all of you are doing well. I had my sleeve in August 2015. I've lost 98 pounds. I swim 1000 yards 3 days a week and am now testing as physically fit for my age and being a female. I could not have imagined the positive changes in my life 2 years ago.
To all who are preop- it is worth every appointment, struggle and sacrifice.
To those newly postop- try not to focus on the scale. I had long stalls. During those stalls I lost a lot of inches. I recently found one of my old bras- I've lost 10 inches in band size!!
To those who are farther out like me- it is a life unimaginable though starting to get more comfortable as a "thin" person. Stay connected to a support group of some sort- it helps keep you on track!
I included my picture from the day I checked into the Bariatric clinic HW 241, other photo is from 1 year postop. CW 142
Happy spring and have a blessed Easter!!

Thanks! I'm feeling great! I can't believe how much more energy I have too! I've been decaffeinated since June 22. I can't believe that I don't have an afternoon slump I used to have when I was drinking a pit a day!
I also am not as tired as I used to be. I guess the carbs and sugar were killing me after all (lol).
Congrats on the weight loss. I look forward to getting to know some new friends on here!

Hi I'm new to the site and new to VSG. I am 55 mom of 4 kids 13-20. I started my wls experience 11 years ago when my husband had RNY. His experience was horrific. They cut the main artery to his stomach and then sent him home still bleeding internally to return a week later. They dehydrated him because they forgot to give him an in and wouldn't let him have anything to eat or drink. This nearly killed him but also caused chronic kidney stones to form which he still gets to this day. The good news is that he has maintained a 100 pound weight loss for 11 years. So, when I found myself at 223 pounds and looked at myself in family photos I decided to look into what was happening in the field today. I started looking at the end of February 2017. I had my first doctor appointment march 6 and by the end of May had surgery scheduled for June 22. My insurance company approved the same day the doctor sent in the forms! On top of that I had no copay. So here I am.
I had surgery on June 22. I have had a great recovery process so far. I'm excited to see where this journey takes me.

blue1961 reacted to Missy161 in Great primary doc visit yesterday
My primary doc of about 15 years is retiring next week so I planned a final visit. She has been such an amazing support over the years- I cried when I left.
So yesterday she did my A1C in the office.. . 5.4 Normal! She said one more normal and they will remove my diabetic diagnosis.
I've lost 25 pounds. She said I was no longer morbidly obese-
    No more hypersomnia
    No more bursitis
She said she'd go through my diagnosis list and clean it up!
I felt like I started with her a mess and now am on a positive health track.
I'm so sad to see her retire but am so thankful for a great dr. Who worked with me to get me healthy again.

Peeps.. how much weight do y'all think you'll lose? 15-20lbs is typical. 25-30lb losses are usually in big guys or patients with complications.

I had zero energy for two months. It was so frustrating and I have been losing slowly too. But I'm losing and keep losing. Try not to be discouraged. Many people don't exercise for months after surgery. Hang in there. It'll happen.

I lost 17lbs the first month, and here I am, not 5 months out, and am down 74lbs.
It'll come off, but it does take time.

The stalls can be very frustrating but I have come to realize, I am usually ALWAYS in a stall, until one morning I step on the scale and it goes down 3-4 lbs. I don't get it, but there is no getting around it. Just know that it will come off if you follow the rules. Best of luck!

@Ldyvenus ahh I know. I feel like I barely have energy as is...I should just be patient. I'm sure this stall will break and the lbs will shed. This process/journey is very challenging...people that think doing this is taking the easy way out are soooo wrong.

It can be frustrating and sometimes we feel we just don't do enough. At this point, the most important thing is to make sure you are getting your Protein and Water in. I too have a 3 hour daily commute and sometimes I just don't feel like it. I have started giving myself a pass and not beating myself up as I would have in the past. Maybe just schedule in your week a 30 min. walk 3-4 times a week, whether at lunch or on the weekends. Start there.
You really are not that far out from surgery and it can take awhile to get your energy back (6 wks to 3 mos) and you are still healing. It's always hard to remember that because the scar has developed on the outside, but the inside takes a lot longer. You are doing really well on the weight loss - at your lower weight it comes off a few pounds at a time. I never would have thought that 6 mos from surgery I would be in a size 8! It still doesn't seem real. Enjoy the ride and follow the rules and you will be at your goal weight before you know it!
