I hope everyone has had a great summer and i hope you go into this holiday season from a better place than the year before.
This last week was my 30th wedding anniversary and i am happy to think that i will have many more to come. In the not so distant past i was not so sure i would live to see this one and 35 or 40 was beyond my expectations. Anything could still happen but at least i have stopped digging in my effort to get of the hole i found myself in.
I have made 3 life changing decisions in the last few decades.
1. asking my wife to marry me - being a child of divorced parents colors your expectations about getting and staying married.
2. saying yes when my wife asked if i wanted children - This was a lie at the time. having a child was THE most terrifying thing i could think of. Today there is nothing i would not do for my daughter and i feel a love i did not know could exist inside a person.
3. accepting that i could not control my weight by myself and getting this surgery to save my own life. Putting myself first as a way to be there for them is not a concept that I lived by before.
If you ever wonder is it worth it yes it is cause i was worth it and they are worth it.
Never give up folks
Whatever you are working towards you have the rest of your life to get there.

I teared up reading this, very profound. Thank you for sharing and congrats on your 30-year anniversary. My husband and I will hit the big 3-0 next July!

I hope everyone is doing well.
Had a wedding in Reno this last week but managed to have a good time anyway (lol)
My numbness that i thought was a pulled muscle was a rare but not unheard of side effect of rapid weight loss. It is a pinched nerve probably caused by the loss of fat around the nerve that allowed the nerve bundle to shift.
weight has been steady and holding within half a pound these last weeks so it looks like i have the correct calories dialed in for maintenance.
I can still do my treadmill time but weight lifting is off the table for now. So more lower body work and hopefully the pinched nerve will resolve with the stretching and time.
Got Scottish games to go to this weekend so looking forward to a fun if long day.
Wore a Suit for the first time in 20 years, can't say i enjoyed it but i survived the tie.

So after a busy and hectic day yesterday i stepped onto the scale this morning and low and behold i had reached my final goal of normal BMI range.
The Doc thinks i have pinched the nerve in my elbow and that is causing the tricep numbness.
She is sending me out to an Orthopedic specialist just to see if they have any ideas but since there is no pain involved i don't see letting them cut on me. To much downside for so little upside.
Thank you all for your support during the last year.
I do lurk around from time to time and read your posts so stay true to your program and go get that success you all deserve.

So i had my 1 year follow up and i am off all supplements with the exception of a Centrum Silver.
All my blood tests were normal and my blood pressure was 107/70.
My surgeon was of course very happy with the level of weight loss and was very positive about the low carb diet i choose to live by now.
My tore tricep has left a numb section about 3 inches long by half inch wide along my tricep.
getting a referral to look at that issue.
Surgeon suggested i stop chasing the "normal BMI" but i haven't decided yet, it is the last goal i set for myself and i am so so close.
I hope all of you are having a great summer and i wish you all the success you deserve.

yea it moves ok. it is just numb like your mouth feels after the dentist gives you those shots.
no pain just the odd numbness.

Great news on the follow up. The tricep issue sounds not so nice. I guess numb is better than in pain though. I have a similar issue on my right thigh - the whole top and outside of it is completely numb but I was told it is from a pinched nerve. I would think after losing 90lbs that the nerve would no longer be pinched, but nope, still numb.
You are doing awesome and are an inspiration for me!

i thought so. processed food is killing us. you can hammer 1k calories at carls jr and call it lunch but 1k calories of steamed veggies would be next impossible to consume in 1 sitting.
if you eat real food the calorie count is done naturally. Its the processed boxed and packaged stuff that causes so much grief in our bodies.

I know this will not be popular.

if you are trying to control your Insulin level fake sugars don't help
if you are trying to break away from a sweet addiction fake sugars don't help

Milestone date for me on this journey. I now weigh the same as the day i got out of boot camp in 1984 and is the least i have ever weighed as an adult.

kinda long but worth it.

ok just the oddest call today. I called my surgeon's office to schedule my 1 year follow up and i pressed 0 to schedule an appointment just like the phone tree asked me too.
i was connected to what sounded like a very pleasant but young lady.
I told her what i needed and she ask me for birth date and name and then proceeded to ask me why i wanted an appointment when i was just there in Feb.
First this caught me off guard cause i have never had a doctor's office try to talk me out of an appointment.
So i explained that yes the Feb date was my 6 month follow up and now it was time for my 1 year follow up. She didnt say anything for a few seconds then just asked me to hold and transferred me to my surgeon's office.
I told the receptionist in the office about the odd encounter and she just laughed and said she would have someone speak the woman.
It was just a few seconds and after it was over i found it pretty funny.
and on the workout front i went back to the gym today but just did legs, crunches and the dreaded treadmill. Still not cleared for anything that engages the tricep but decided i could do the things i dont like even if i could not do the parts i enjoyed.
hope your all doing well

So the doc wants another week before i try lifting again and then only light weights for another week after that.
i don't know how much of this slow healing process is me just being an old **** or if my post op diet is slowing things down or hell maybe Tricep tear just takes along time to heal.
I do know i dont want to do any damage to it again. Not being able to do much of anything with your right arm is a pain in the ass if your right handed.
well me and the wife and daughter are off to Reno for a family reunion this weekend so that means lots of vegan food (daughter) sigh
i will weigh in real early in the morning and post my Saturday update if i lost any weight this week.
need 4 more pounds before August 1- will have my 1 year follow up with surgeon in first week of August
Hope everyone has a great weekend and i'll be back monday to rant and rave against the evils of added sugar and processed carbs.
