    Doctors office error

i would say that maths was not the nurses best subject. But someone has to graduate at the bottom of each class. and on a more serious note: you are in charge of your health, speak up when things are wrong or just not understood. These people are human and make the same mistakes day in and day out that all of us do except you will pay the price for their errors so speak up for yourself.
  2. ok, I enjoy the small meals mostly. Sometimes when its an old favorite i have a twinge of loss. i have not found any food post op that i cannot eat. just small amounts of it. however i didn't like Brussel spouts before and dont like them after i try to make everything as flavorful as i can cause when its that small there is no room for bland. i eat everything from a salad plate so it looks fuller (Jedi mind trick ) i still have restriction at 11 months and i like that alot. i am around and mostly under 1000 calories a day. bathroom issues come and go mostly an issue with fiber intake. I am very happy with my surgery decision and hope everyone has as good a post op as i have had.

    Over eating/binge eating

search out and find that help. take up meditation, Post op is mostly a mental game and you have a tough situation on your hands. This emotional trip your on will show up in your weight but the cure is in your head so please seek out that counseling. as for a reset i would recommend 16/8 IF I am sorry for the things you dealing with right now. I know both the pains you are dealing with and it is not an easy time to work thru. good luck and i hope the wedding gives you a new start.
  4. ok thats a little low, if you sip 1 oz every 5 minutes that 12 oz per hour you need only 6 hours to get hydrated. you really have to sip sip sip all the time during the first months. It will get easier but you have to make hydration the number 1 thing from first moment up till bedtime.
  5. sounds normal but you dont say how many ounces all those sips add up to. and what food stage are you on this early, at almost 3 weeks i was still on liquid but all programs are different. dont worry about what the calories add up to. we all have an over supply of stored energy (fat) so you dont need that right now. if you are not dehydrated then you are fine. everything else will come with time. the dehydration can put you in the hospital so that is your priority. track the ounces you are sipping
  6. once you get down in size i find clothes are much cheaper now that i dont look for 4x. if you go out and get clothes every time you drop a size in the beginning it will break you. i went thru 4 belts but that was cheaper than new pants over and over.
  7. I put 2 oz of my premier in each of the 5 cups of coffee i drink a day. all coffee after 3pm is decaf i was between 3 - 4 months post op when i started this. also i make rather weak coffee - 2 tbls of coffee for each 10 cup pot

    Non Scale Victories

it is amazing the amount of water we can store in our bodies. never use day to weight use at least weekly averages to even out the up and down of the water. at 8 lbs per gallon water can really move the scale on a day to day basis.

    Getting back to the gym

Set a time and go just like any other appointment you have. Dont think about it just go. I find once i am there and start i feel great. Its just that moment when you have to go that can jam you up. I always feel so much better after the workout than i did before. For me at least it kills any hunger i had before and i dont want to eat for a couple hours after i workout

    feeling down

it can be very hard to believe that this time will be different but it will be different. The sleeve is an amazing tool to reset your life and reclaim your health and mobility. You have so many small and large victories ahead of you. i encourage you to look for the NSV -non scale victories - topic located here and read thru it and see all the great things you can look forward to post op is very much a mental game so keep the reasons you did this in mind and look forward to the good things ahead. good luck

    Telling the Family

you can never untell so i prefer to limit the number and the constant negativity of some you tell will wear on you pre op is a long process and they will have a lot of time to pick at you and cause you to doubt yourself

    Telling the Family

i was going to tell you to not say anything to anyone but i dont think you can go that route. You will have to tell and just hope the support you need is forthcoming. good luck

    New to the site

you have a better chance of getting a glass of ice in hell than you do in getting the the insurance to speed up. The process is by design long and tedious. If they can get you to give up by wearing you down they will be money ahead and never ever forget it is always about the money when it comes to insurance. The only fast way to surgery is self pay. whip out the card drop 18-25k and you can be in the surgery room as soon as the next spot opens. for the rest of us its just hang in there and stay on top of everything you need to do and do them right away and always follow up that the results of each procedure gets sent to your surgeons office.
  14. kinda long but worth it.

Really interesting, thanks! Pretty scary for those of us who are getting most of our nutrition from processed foods and supplements right now! (As she walks off to get a protein bar for breakfast! ;))

    Clothing purge

I know what you mean Dubbs, in my garage is a large blue tote packed solid with my 'FAT' cloths. i sit here at the same weight i was during my 20's but i still haven't let that tote go. The mental games we play never cease to amaze me. 1 year just does not feel real enough i guess. after a lifetime of ever slowly increasing weight it is difficult to believe this wont end the same as all other attempts to lose weight ended. I know its different and i can tell myself all the reasons that it is different this time but that tote still sits there waiting for me to f**k this one up like all the rest. screw the pre op diet lets go with the post op counselling for all the mental gymnastics we put ourselves thru. post op is all mental and i just hope at the end of the day to shot par for life's course. good luck on your next round.
  16. hang in there Tracy. nothing easy or fun about the pre op diet. and the carb/sugar addiction withdrawals are crazy hard. the better you do at getting them out of your system the easier it will be post op when you can do real damage to your wl progress if you eat those kinds of foods instead of the healthy choices you will need to make going forward. Do the best you can and understand that it will all be worth it very soon. day to day this time seems endless but it is a very small part of the rest of your life that you are reclaiming and you will barely remember this week a few months from now. good luck
  17. ok just the oddest call today.  I called my surgeon's office to schedule my 1 year follow up and i pressed 0 to schedule an appointment just like the phone tree asked me too.

i was connected to what sounded like a very pleasant but young lady.

I told her what i needed and she ask me for birth date and name and then proceeded to ask me why i wanted an appointment when i was just there in Feb.

First this caught me off guard cause i have never had a doctor's office try to talk me out of an appointment.

So i explained that yes the Feb date was my 6 month follow up and now it was time for my 1 year follow up.  She didnt say anything for a few seconds then just asked me to hold and transferred  me to my surgeon's office.

I told the receptionist in the office about the odd encounter and she just laughed and said she would have someone speak the woman.

It was just a few seconds and after it was over i found it pretty funny.

and on the workout front i went back to the gym today but just did legs, crunches and the dreaded treadmill.  Still not cleared for anything that engages the tricep but decided i could do the things i dont like even if i could not do the parts i enjoyed. :(

    hope your all doing well

    Help!!!! Weight gain

these are the basics 1 protein 2. veggies hydration remove sugars from your diet, notice i did not say decrease them i said remove them. your carbs should be from your veggies cut out the processed carbs eat from the 3 walls 1 veggies - fruits only if your weight is going down 2 meats 3 dairy avoid the middle of the store like it will hurt you cause it will. NO snacking after dinner good luck
  19. Be proud of your lose skin cause you have to earn it. Nothing says success in the WL game like some lose skin. yes i have it. it got more noticeable as i dropped under 200 lbs. from slight to moderate it is all over, calves arms legs belly crotch. Its a price to be paid for where i was to where i am now and i will pay it gladly. if you just cant stand it they have another surgery for that but not for me. life is what it is. move on time.

My body plays jokes on me

Since we have a very small stomach compared to body weight alcohol will have an outsized effect on post op sleevers. An empty stomach will just make it worse. Even if you dont "feel" drunk your Blood alcohol level will be higher per drink than someone your same weight with a normal size stomach. Use caution.

    Appetite back with a vengance!

the common thing here is processed carbs and sugar. The more of these you consume the hungrier you will get. you can eat a lot more processed carbs than you can veggies. I see a real lack of making protein and then veggies your primary meal choices. get the sugar and carbs out of your diet and the hunger will decrease.
  22. So the doc wants another week before i try lifting again and then only light weights for another week after that.

i don't know how much of this slow healing process is me just being an old **** or if my post op diet is slowing things down or hell maybe Tricep tear just takes along time to heal.

I do know i dont want to do any damage to it again. Not being able to do much of anything with your right arm is a pain in the ass if your right handed.

well me and the wife and daughter are off to Reno for a family reunion this weekend so that means lots of vegan food (daughter)  sigh

i will weigh in real early in the morning and post my Saturday  update if i lost any weight this week.

need 4 more pounds before August 1- will have my 1 year follow up with surgeon in first week of August

Hope everyone has a great weekend and i'll be back monday to rant and rave against the evils of added sugar and processed carbs. :)

  23. I love me some salsa. I put it on most anything. Eggs to bland add salsa. another salad make you want to scream just add salsa it comes in many different tastes and heat levels you can always find something you like if you try enough different kinds. So glad this didn't bother me post op.
  24. take a look in the Veteran's forum. there have been a few post here (in this forum) in the last weeks from long term vets about how it is going
  25. depending on your program week 6 or after you could see a normal if very small dinner plate in front of you it could be a year or more before you eat enough not to draw attention from someone who does not know about the surgery its a nice problem to have hang in there it gets better
