    Food Smells Good but....

Grats mels glad to see you are back and hope you are enjoying your new life as much as you can during these early days. That lack of "pull" as you called it is the major hormonal change going on. With most of your stomach gone the hormone Ghrelin is gone. the rest of your stomach is still in shock and not producing ghrelin. so no hunger hormone equals no hunger for now. That leaves Head hunger as referenced above and it can be tough to overcome. distract distract distract stay mentally engaged with something to keep the mental hunger at bay puzzles and games that require concentration It is very much a mental game from this point forward. I wish you all the best and hope to follow your progress for months to come. Good luck

    Incision around navel

I didn't ask how they got that huge piece of me out. I dont think i want that detail. all 5 of my incisions were real small but the slightly bigger one was near the navel. Well crap i just googled how big the stomach piece is when removed and Holy F***K now i am equal parts disgusted and amazed. I guess it helped that it was empty and in the video they had filled it. but just yuck lol

    My incisions

grats Mat glad to see things are starting out well. The next month will be both amazing and horrible. but just remember its only a few short weeks and then it will start a steady climb of dam good days. try to enjoy what you can and hang on for the best parts that are really just around the corner.

Do any of you have hair loss?

hair thinned and stopped growing between 4th and 6th month but has started to grow again now and looks normal at 7 months
  5. 7 months out and you can see the stats on the left. i eat protein , fats, carbs and sugar in that order 50 grams on carbs per day under 10 on sugar i eat only 4-6 ounces per meal and only between noon and 8pm. this is for blood sugar control. i work out 5 days a week 30 minutes on weights 40 minutes on treadmill. i admit to being a little extreme. but since i see this as a new lease on life i am getting all i can out of that first year when it is the easiest to lose the weight. cant speak to the long term but from other posts it gets harder a few years out so i want to strike while the iron is hot.
  6. winter weather causes dry lips could just be that time of year dehydration is a big factor and low levels of vitamin b2 and b3 our surgery can cause numbers 2 and 3 but blame mother nature for number 1
  7. Oh LaLa i am sorry to here that. Have you taken this med since surgery maybe it wont be as bad after sleeve surgery. The surgery realy changes up your hormones so it might not be as bad as you remember good luck

    6 week stall

hang in there DA the crappy weather will pass and then you can get out and up your activity level. if available to you pay for a month gym membership (no contract) and get some weight lifting in on the machines and some time on the treadmill till the weather breaks. you have to keep your body off balance. It will get used to any routine so you need to change it up to challenge your body. Follow your post op diet plan and bump up activity level as much as you can and the stall will break. keep the faith and good luck
  9. hey buzz, no catheter here. no pain on waking but slept till 1030 pm day of surgery(early am surgery) best dam day of sleep i'd had in years had no desire to eat for first 5 weeks but that varies hugely from reading forums. i lost 22 pounds the first 2 weeks but i seem to be outside of bell curve on that. good luck hope everything goes well for you

    6 week stall

over 6 weeks with zero weight lose cant say Normal. but dont have much info to say much else. yes i know unusual for me but i am trying to do better. i will go with my standby's. 1. Processed food? 2. Sugar? 3. Carbs? or as i like to say sugar just misspelled.
  11. Kay, stick to water only right now, what ever you can handle, but no more. forget protein forget food none of those matter this early. you will be fine for weeks even if you dont eat a bite. The fliuds are a different story but dont try to hit your water target so fast. work up to it and do not worry about anything else. You are going to be fine. let your body heal the rest will come with time. and drop into the sleeve forum there some great people here and you will get a lot of support during your journey

    Tedx

very well said and very positive about Bariatric surgery. I do love me some Ted Talks
  13. I had the first Non family member ask about my weight lose yesterday. The lady at the pharmacy leaned in as i reached for my wifes medications and asked quietly if she could ask a personal question. Then asked how i lost so much weight. I was caught off guard for second then simply responded i had gastric sleeve surgery. Her only comment about the surgery was "I have been thinking about that same surgery". I told her i didnt regret it at all and she asked if i exercised and i said yes 5 days a week. Now that it has happened i wonder if its odd that nobody has noticed till now or its more likely that people just dont feel comfortable asking strangers such a personal question. Has anyone else had much comment from non family?

    Post-Pregnancy weight loss

Ana are you doing any of these exercises from a Fasted state or all after a meal (within 3 hrs). The body always burns blood sugar first before it will switch to fat stores. if you can do some lifting in the morning it will burn thru your blood sugar and make it easier to burn fat (skinny jeans worst enemy) also dont cut any more calories you will only cause a negative response from your body. You are plenty active for that number of calories.

    Feeling fustrated

Sorry to here about the Insurance issues and it happens a lot if these forums are any indication. Try to stay positive and just keep working the problems. It will be worth it in the end. good luck

    Secret sleevers?!

I am sorry to hear that you dont much support but you can lean on those 2 friends who walked the walk you are on. as for telling family if you dont see support there you did the right thing. them not knowing is better than the negativity you would have faced as you prepared for this. keep your head up and enjoy the process you are about to go thru as much as you can. Not all of it is easy but all of it is worth it. and i told only my close family but the way they blabber it was the same as buying ad space

    Starting to regret this

well my advice and 2 cents will get you - two cents but here goes. want to break a stall cut the sugar- not lower cut it out. look at the sugar on everything you buy - everything the goal is to crush this number. cant say you wont feel like **** cause you will. and dont replace those sugars with carbs. Carb is just sugar misspelled (lol) good luck

    Protein

sorry i cant answer that from a medical standpoint but as former diabetic i would not want to spike my insulin that much from that kind of a protein load.but that just me if you had no previous insulin issues you may look at it different

    Vitamins

oddly enough the paperwork i was given said any name brand vitamins so long as Chewable , no gummies allowed. It is funny we all had the "Same" surgery but the process is different as can be. The Standard seems to be very wide with a lot of latitude. get your protein- but the amounts very alot get your vitamins - but what kind -how much - how long to take them all variable. just follow your doc. Was just remaking on the varied medical approaches i have noticed from reading the forums these last months. i know we are all different but these are not personalized instructions there handouts to ever patient the surgeon see's. oh well not really what you asked about anyway so i should have just moved on.

    Post-op with surgeon Houston Tx

Grats you got real lucky. look at it instead as 1 less week you will stress over your surgery and 1 week sooner you will be on your way to a new life. dont worry about the lost week on the liquid diet that varies hugely from doctor to doctor. good luck and come back and update everyone on your progress And no risk on those papers is as high as the risk of staying obese

    So cold!

mels, i was always the one in shorts and tee shirt year round and i dont even own a long sleeve shirt. my wife called me her own space heater cause you could feel the heat radiate off me. Now my hands are cold most all the time and i have not enjoyed this winter at all. my tolerance for cold is way down. its a price i gladly pay to feel this good. good luck on the 14th hope it goes smoothly and you have a great recovery,

    Feeling really tired

Ksc, talk to your doctor about the energy level. Have you had a blood panel done. Low iron level could be an issue and is a easy check with a blood test. Dont just accept it if it last more than short time.
  24. wicked , the whole stretching thing is hotly debated but what is important is that you drink slowing and as soon as you feel full stop. Problem solved. grats on your surgery and i hope the next weeks and months are as good for you as they have been for me. Its nice to see another guy here. We are badly outnumber for some odd reason
