One Month Post Op-Is it just me?

The pasta carbs will spike blood sugar and cause you to be hungry as the blood sugar crashes back down a few hours later. try to limit simple carbs and watch out for the sugars every time you eat sugars you can cause that hunger a few hours later as your blood sugar level does a roller coaster. good luck and work on that water intake. dehydration can mask as hunger when all you need is more water.
  2. walk as soon as you can as much as you can. everything else clear with you surgeon.
  3. the lower bmi and your age will work in your favor. If you carry most of the weight around middle then that will work against you to some degree but if you carry it all over then it will be easier to avoid to much loose skin.

    Sugar

by accident in a sauce and it was very unpleasant. think of having the worst possible flu for half an hour.
  5. So my daughter reminded my she had a snap shot on her phone of me from about 3 months before i started this journey so pretty close to my max weight. I have had it for few days now and had to work thru my emotions before i could clearly decide if i wanted to post this or not. So the beard hides my 3 chins pretty well but well you can see for yourself. loose skin and all5af22ea94792e_afteredit.thumb.jpg.0ea9e2bb6c2ad3d5993563ef2e870ab6.jpg

Congrats! The change is huge! You must be so proud of what you've accomplished!

  6. Just keep all reasons you started this journey in the front of your mind and keep reminding yourself you are worth it and deserve a new life without the barriers that morbid obesity put in front of you.

    New Here

Heather this all for you and your life. Never let someone else decide how your life will be lived and how long your life will be because lets face it this about life and death. When you cut right to it being obese is a death sentence that you spend everyday slowly living and getting worse so slowly that we miss how much of our life we are giving up till its to late. Dont give up on yourself and dont let others decide what happiness you deserve.

    When will the weightloss start?

Faith Miss Swendon Just keep your emotions from ruining your progress. How long you were overweight has a lot to do with the hormonal issues you will face. It is not an issue of calories in calories out. It is hormone driven. It takes some peoples bodies longer to readjust those hormones post surgery. When the hormones are right then the reduced calories you are on post op will begin to have an effect. If your metabolism is wrecked this could take several months. Some people take 2 years to reach there goal but in the end you will get there and you will see all kinds of non scale victories along the way. good luck and stay strong

    Hitting a stall

This is not specific to stalls but here is the same advice i give everyone that asks 1. Hydrate - make sure you are hitting your water target 2. track your food - use an app to track every thing you eat so know exactly what your macro's are. 3. no added sugar - no fruits if your stalled 4. no simple carbs 5. complex carbs from your veggies 6. hit your protein target - this number changes as you lose weight. 7. No snacks after dinner Lastly i use a simple version of intermittent fasting - this just means i dont eat any calories after dinner till next meal the next day. This can be as short as 12 hrs when you start, something like 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. If you can go longer by eating dinner a little early or breakfast a little late then thats even better. this gives your body time to burn stored fat instead of a steady supply of new food every few hours. good luck
  10. god yes! i would it again and again. Think about all the reason you started this program. Every surgery has risk. This one has a very low risk (lower than gallbladder) a 1% chance of a serious issue VS. a 100% chance that the extra weight will keep you from living your life to the fullest and that it will shorten your life. Your coworker is not your friend and is trying to put you in your grave early. Do not give up on the rest of your life.

    VEGAS!!!

you could be fine lots of people are hitting it hard by 6 weeks, but and there is always a but, Be prepared just in case your one of those that needs the extra time to recover from the surgery. depending on your food plan you could be on the start of solids by then so just be careful to always carry a water bottle with you. dehydration at that point is very real and a vegas hospital stay would not be any fun (no slots in the rooms or cafeteria) and make for terrible instagram shots. have fun and be careful

  14. grats and yes i think the pre op weight loss counts. be proud of all those pounds lost. About the pace of weight loss, i will just throw out some things to consider. were you heavy for a very long time? if yes then you most likely have metabolic syndrome. This leads to a higher base rate of insulin and hyper response to sugars and a slow return to baseline. For a few weeks try to not consume any calories from 7 p.m to 7 a.m. (or any other 12 hr period) then try to slowly increase the number of hours from 12 to 14 then to 16 if you can. stop when it becomes a chore because you want this to be easy and fit your life style. Eat your normal meals you eat now during the other hours. It will help is you watch the added sugar and simple carbs because they do the most to spike your insulin. It could take 3-6 months to get your insulin to go down and stay down but when it does the body will start to burn fat. Something it will struggle to do if you have elevated insulin levels. since you are asleep for most of the 12 hrs the first one is pretty easy and depending on how you feel about breakfast you could stretch it out to 14. give it a try and see how you feel and how you are doing in a few months. good luck
  15. i think you will be surprised that 3 days a week may work very well for you. the type of exercise you do may change. Some amount of weight lifting to tone the you would be recommended but every other day is fine. You also may feel different about working out post op. I always hated the gym and felt like crap after a workout. Now post op I have so much more energy and feel great after a workout and i just buzz all day after i leave the gym. I never do more than 2 days in a row now. Got a little crazy at the start and was doing 6 days a week but muscles were not recovering. so now its 2 on 1 off.
  16. I hate insomnia.  2:20 in the bloody a.m. and i am wide awake.  This is when i would usually sneak out and do an extra  session in the gym but my gym is moving to a new building this week so no outside workouts till Monday.   sigh

  17. keep the reasons you are doing this in the front of your mind. It is worth it accept that you will be nervous and unsure as you get closer but that is normal and ok

    Pre-op Diet Is Horrible

Yea the preop diet sucks - you get to see and feel all the things you are addicted too and it is not a fun time. It gets so much better, so chin up and stay strong, we all looked forward to hearing from you on the other side. The strained soup trick will serve you well post op also.

    I WAS SLEEVED TODAY!

come over to the GS forums
  22. The 3 H's - Head Hunger - Habit and Hormones You have been sleeved but the only part of you that understands that right now is your stomach. You still have the habit of eating and your mind still expects certain actions and reactions from you and your hormones are going on one hell of a ride right now. Try to keep your mind occupied and dont dwell on food. in something between 3 and 14 days you will start to settle down as the surgery heals and your hormone levels find a new normal and your brain gets used to you doing the whole eating thing different. It can be a very traumatic time period if you havent prepared yourself for the mental game ahead of you. Every issue you had or didnt think you had will rise up and mess with your mind. The sleeve does its job but the other 95 percent is mental and how much you struggle with it will decide how happy you are for next 6 months.

    My Surgery was 4/8/18

Post op is won or lost in the mental game. There are so many options other than protein shake if you can't do that and dont eat eat tuna salad if you dont like it but dont use those 2 things to justify just having whatever you want. If you want success in this then follow your doctors program. ask for a referral to a Bariatric trained counselor for help with the emotional eating urges. GS will not fix the emotions that is on you to work thru.

    My Surgery was 4/8/18

Everyone has a different pace of weight loss. Some go slow and steady for years others drop like a stone right out the gate. Your metabolic health will decide this for you. 1. get the water in over all else - 2. work on the protein as a goal and work up to it. 3. Post op is a Major Mental Game. You will win or lose in your head. This a multi year process and you have barely scratched the surface.
