    Help

walking is free and is the best overall exercise you can give your body. step back from a counter top and do push ups at a 45 degree angle. i do these all day just to work my arms and i have a gym available. the post above about sugar is on the mark. there is no good level of sugar. whatever works its way into your diet will stop your weight loss. The goal is to get as close to zero as you can. The second goal is the same as the first except its simple carbs - they are just a form of sugar. Dont do low fat. fat makes you feel full and has a place in your diet with protein. foods that are labeled low fat have sugar add in to replace the taste lost from removing the fat. get that protein in and get carbs from veggies and leave the sugar and breads and pasta's behind and you will be on your way. good luck

    Spiraling out of control!! Help!!!

keep in mind most everyone here has years upon years of weight loss / weight gain and try and fail. This pattern is ingrained and can be our undoing if we don't recognize it and guard against it. Post op is a mental game and we are the enemy. build a plan around your doctors instructions then work out how to do this day in day out without huge effort. The key is it must work with your life or like a DIET it will fail over the long run. Everyone will have a slightly different plan that fits the life they are building. good luck and i hope you have a great week and get back on track.

    Hi

    welcome
  6. allwet

Stall a complete week and this week

start with some meditation. Followed by deep breathing exercises. I am not making fun of what you are going thru just trying to get you to relax and step back a little. Follow your program - completely - The weight will start to come off again. At this point i would very much recommend you stop weighing yourself daily. Switch to once per week and stop the daily mental torture that is the scale. Please read the ongoing post about NSV (non scale victories) there will be times in this process that all you can hold on to are the NSV. Don't look down on all the great things changing in your life as you go forward instead hold these little wins close to your heart and let them carry you till the weight loss returns. good luck and grats on the great progress you have made to date

    Final Dietitian Visit

not the fluctuation that will be the deciding factor. Every Insurance company has a policy with the min. BMI and number of comorbidities required with each BMI level. The lower your BMI the more other issues you need to get approval. Don't know Aetna's policy but the weight fluctuations will only an issue if you happen to drop below their cut off BMI.

    To tell coworkers or not?

I would not tell anyone at this point. You dont need there approval or opinions. Decide at a future date what to say if anything at all. it will be months before they will know something is different with you and you can decide at that time what to say and to whom. Remember you can never untell someone

    Spiraling out of control!! Help!!!

when you add in those carbs and sugar you start that cycle of sugar rush sugar crash/hungry as hell all over again. Sugar and simple carbs make you hungry as hell. Break away from them. There is no safe amount to eat for the vast majority of us or we would not have needed the surgery in the first place. You know what to do No sugar No simple carbs water protein track your food with an app and know your macro's
  13. It sounds like you got the water planned out and that is the most important. You should be fine energy wise. Thats far enough post op for you to be very active and enjoy it. The Premeir Protein shakes would give you 30g so 1 in the morning and 1 in the evening plus your meal plan should get you to your protein goal. Taste test the flavors before you go they are not all palatable. good luck with your surgery and make the most of this new start you are about to receive.
  14. Amy, is it possible you are the ONE person, sure but possible and probable are not the same thing. How old is your last complete blood panel. If the answer is more than 90 days get it again. You need to rule out a medical issue. Zero sugar Then - cut the carbs to under 50g with all of those coming from veggies Protein - and Fat should fill out the rest of your calories. The goal is to get to fat burning and that process has a defined route. You must burn the stored glycogen in your muscles followed by the sugar in your blood followed by the sugar in your liver (the cause of a fatty liver) When all of this has been worked down then the body will process stored fat for energy. Stored fat is the very last energy source our bodies tap cause it is the energy of last resort and we are programmed to survive. If at any time you spike your blood sugar with sugar, carbs, protein your insulin will rise and you will enter Fat storage mode and can not return to fat burning mode till insulin levels return to normal. You mentioned hormones and you are correct all weight loss and gain is hormone driven. The longer you were overweight the more issues with metabolic syndrome you will have. If you have other medical issues as you have stated you will have that to mess with your hormones as well. Dont eat if your not hungry, dont eat late at night it delays the start of fat burning when you Fast and everybody Fast's when they go to sleep unless you sleep walk to the fridge i guess. Dont start your day with any carbs at all. Protein and fat only If your not a breakfast person wait for first meal till you feel like it. If you have a workout in your routine and you can, do it in the morning before you eat. lifting weights followed by 20 minutes cardio minimum. Do with this what you want but you have to get as much control over the hormones with your diet as you can. It is critical that you use a food app to track all your Macro's Remember there are Essential Amino acids(protein) and Essential Fatty Acids(fats) but there no essential carbs You cant control what you dont understand and that starts with tracking your food. I wish you luck and hope you find a way to go forward with your weight loss.
  15. depends on your goal - everything on that list will raise blood sugar and then raise insulin levels so they should be consumed in moderation with that in mind. only you can decide what limit you want on carbs. 150 g 100g 50g (me) 20g keep in mind the govt asked Americans to eat more carbs and obesity and type 2 diabetes have risen every year since to reach epidemic proportions today - thank you U.S. govt. track all your food with an app and decided what number to stay under then adjust your food choices as needed.
  16. fries are a carb. cookies are carbs and worse sugar. pizza dough is a carb - the meats are protein and fat and the veggies have carbs - scrap everything off the dough throw in a scrambled egg you got a great breakfast pasta is highly refined and a carb - who grain while a better version is still a carb even if less refined. potatoes are a starch and thats a carb. oatmeal is a carb beans are carbs with higher amount of fiber which makes them a better choice than all of the others on your list.

    H pylori positive?

i was positive and had surgery as soon as i was cleared. its no problem.
  19. So Saturday will be my last weigh in for the month and that will bring me to the end of 10 months.

Odd how it feels like only yesterday that i started and like i have been doing this process forever at the same time.  As the weight has come off i have found it so much easier to do things and my daily activity level has certainly increased and because no good deed goes unpunished i can now feel all the things i didn't deal with when i should have.

So as soon as i hit the 18 month mark or my goal whichever comes first i guess i'll bite the bullet and get the knee i tore up 15 years or so ago taken care of. Don't really look forward to it but the more i do the more problems it causes so me and the knee and i are at an impasse.

Only need 5 pounds a month to hit my goal by the 18 month mark so if i dont have to much of a drop off as i go further out i should get there ok. May is looking like the first month with a smaller drop at 6 pounds. Months 2-9 have all been 8-10 pounds steady.

I do wonder does the weight loss just stop on its own? i guess i will be able to eat somewhat more in another 6+ months. I am full when i finish eating now but i still dont break 1k calories.

well whatever happens happens.  It has been a hell of a ride so far.

been thinking about faking a midlife crisis and getting a motorcycle , lol, stopped riding when  i was in my 20's.  Nah just file that away as yet another bad idea. You would not believe the congestion on the freeways around here or maybe you will guess that depends on where you live. There constantly trying to add lanes but they are always 10 years to late with whatever expansion they are working on.

Ran out of protein drinks yesterday so it looks like Costco is on the schedule today and may go see Solo since we will be out and about anyway. Like to pack our trips out of the house full cause she will be be whipped when it is over and that will be it for a few days.

well i am way past the babbling point so if i dont stop and post i will end up deleting this whole thing.

You all have a great weekend.

  20. I wish i could tell you but there is such a huge range of recovery times. Some people are up same day as surgery and dont look back. others are laid up for days and take several weeks to get back into more normal routine. You have your youth on your side and i would hope you will be in the up and going gang busters group. All you have to know about "How it all works" is you need to eat very small meals and consume alot of protein while drinking water all the time. Dehydration is your enemy. as to the alcohol - just remember that it will hit you much much harder than before. I recently read a study that showed a huge increase in blood alcohol level from the same amount of alcohol given to sleeved vs. non sleeved test subjects. So exercise caution and make sure your safe. good luck and enjoy your time abroad

    Workout Question

if the motion will move the wound around i would avoid it just a little longer. there are WLS doctors that dont even recommend the gym till you get back to solid foods. Getting healed is the main goal here. Did your doctor say ok after 3 weeks to you even with the incision or was that his policy in general. put in a call to the office if you are unsure. thats what they are there for.
