    Post OP sickness

your tired because you just had major surgery and you are fighting an infection please dont turn back to your old habits and use food (carbs) as the medication for everything. This is the mindset that got us all here in the first place and the post op liquid diet is your chance to break free from this and begin again new.

    Blood sugars Post-Surgury

could be a one off just keep doing what your doing and see if this is a pattern or just a fluke grats on your surgery and i bet your very happy to see all those meds go by the wayside. good luck going forward

    Blood sugars Post-Surgury

was this the first and only morning it was high? I have read some people have high blood sugars when they first rise in the morning. Are you checking them later in the day? and of course have a good talk with the doctor next week. walk as much as you can it will get you off to the best start
  5. every Insurance has a cut off line for the surgery based on weight and other health issues you have if you are right up against that line you could get denied but if you are way over or have plenty of other weight dependent health issues it is just a formality they go thru

    Gained weight after medication

walk daily , weight training 3 days a week if available lots of water get your protein daily for your size no sugar - as close to this as you can no simple carbs - avoid the middle of the store - shop the 3 walls - veggies , meat , dairy highly refined foods are your worst enemy no fruit if your weight is not going down no snacks after dinner dont fear the fat it makes it easier to go longer between meals try to go at least 12 hours from last calorie in till first calorie next day. your asleep most of this. get enough sleep - most people don't start day with protein and fat not carbs good luck and i am sorry meds have set you back it is always tougher when other factors fight against you and so many meds cause weight gain
  7. I am just outside your limits HW326 SW319 the rest you can see on the left followed plan strictly. at 10 months i still dont break 1k calories and i keep carbs below 50g and sugar below 10g per day. i work out every other day. i am still dropping 8+ pounds a month so it works for me. and yes i am just a bit over the top with this whole thing but hey i was over the top with food why not try the other side for the second half of my life
  8. Try your very best not to compare and get yourself down. This is a very personal journey and while we are all going the same direction we are not all on the same path. Your age - older is just harder how long you have been overweight - last few years vs. whole adult life other medical issues and the meds you may take for them - damage to your metabolic system. Long term damage here can take months to fully recover from since everyone will answer these and other questions a little different each will respond to the Sleeve a little different but all will get there if you follow the plan and learn the new habits that will carry you in the second year and beyond.
  9. very wide range i had so much energy after the first week i got worried something was wrong with me. others have bigger problem with recovery from the surgery and need a bit longer. your not dragging old bones like some of us so hopefully you will bounce back quick.

    Ketogenic diet

typical keto is low carb and low protein with high fat and that is more outside the most common WLS diet. If you looked up a low carb diet it would match up better with most of the plans given by the different surgeons. It mostly about cutting out the sugar and refined carbs. These tend to be the trigger foods for most of us. Most obese people have damaged metabolisms and sugars and highly refined and process foods play to most damaged parts of our hormonal system. Don't fear the fat but to much of anything can work against you. always remember there are essential amino acids from protein and essential fatty acids from fat that you can not survive without But there is no essential Carb. They just make you feel like you cant live without them and that is the very sign that you need fewer of them. good luck
  11. What kim says above in BOLD!!!!!!! what you feel right now is normal and lots of people feel it. You had Major surgery and did it on purpose Now try to remember what that purpose was and keep it in the front of your thoughts till you get past these rough few days good luck and grats
  12. Relax and Heal this was not minor surgery and on the inside your body is in WTF did you do to me mode. Some get past this in a few days and other need a week or two. glad to hear you are doing good post op. keep moving and drinking. walking moves the gas out and promotes healing and the water will keep you hydrated. This first week or two dehydration is your enemy. Follow your post op plan and be proud of yourself for taking control of the rest of your life. The weight loss will follow naturally and the less you stress over it the better. Post op is more Mental than anything else so keep your head on straight and let the sleeve do its thing while you work on building new habits that will carry you forward when the sleeve restriction is smaller in the years ahead. grats and good luck
  13. since you asked LOL 1 hydration 2 protein 3 no sugar 4 no simple carbs - get your carbs from your veggies 5 no fruits if your gaining weight 6 no snacks 7 no calorie intake after dinner till you break your fast the next day - start with 12 hours and work it out to 14 over a month or so. whatever works with your schedule. 8 being hungry is normal and not a sign you are ill. 9 never eat before you get hungry - then drink a glass of water to see if you are hungry or just dehydrated. 10 work to get your mental focus off food. distract distract distract as for exercise. walk walk walk if nothing else.
  14. So i did my weekly weigh in 1 day early cause i like to get my weight on the first of each month for my anniversary date.  So I have completed 10 months now and feel i guess settled. My routine feels normal and my day to day just feels like living not like i am doing something special or temporary. I guess that's good in that i can do this day in day out but also feel worried i will take to much for granted now that it feels "easy". I have gotten used to not eating bread with every meal, well any meal really, and i don't even think about it anymore and thats a big deal for me cause the bread was (IS) my Kryptonite.

Got my monthly Costco run to do today so looking forward to spending a few hours running around and hopefully i can beat the crowds by going this morning.

We are warming up nicely around here but thats expected this time of year.

I am wondering how i will handle the heat now that i have lost some weight.  Hoping i cope better with the 100's now that i have reduced my internal insulation.

Have a great weekend and stay safe and focused on your goals.

  15. Reach out to your Surgeon's office for a councilor recommendation and get some help with the emotional issues. Right now you need to shore up your mental game. cut the sugar out. not reduce - cut it all you are on a roller coaster and need to get the high and lows evened out. Lastly download a food app and get back to tracking everything you eat maybe the act of tracking and seeing your numbers will help you make the hard choices ahead. Don't wait. the more you delay the harder everything will get.

    Water and protein

Set a timer on your phone to beep every five minutes to remind you to sip again. Two 16oz bottles in a full day seems like you have the water available but maybe let time slip away and dont sip. divide 32oz by the number of hours your awake and you will see you just how often your not sipping. dehydration is a big problem post op. nothing matters more than water intake in the those first weeks.

    The Numbers Are Adding Up

10 months out and after first month i have lost 8-10 pounds since including May which started out my slowest month so far but had a big drop in last 10 days to get me to my avg (8-10). I consider myself very very lucky because my weight loss has been very steady and not had the soul crushing stalls some have had to fight thru.

    Don't pray for me

I just assume they say it or do it or hell both to make themselves feel better. I never actually care if they are doing it or not and i dont begrudge someone else the need for the emotional support i assume they get. like water over a ducks back i just let it roll over me. If you get angry or upset you just give someone else emotional leverage over you and i see no point in that. If you dont believe then they are just words like "how you doing today" when nobody actually wants to know how your doing they just say the words. Learn to let it go and be happy they are not going home to stick pins in a elforman doll. to each his own on their own journey.

    Fried Chicken

Its the flour that makes this bad. If you peel off the coating the chicken is great but we all know just how addicting that crispy fried skin is. be careful going down that road.
  21. wow, i don't know what to say to a husband that says no surgery cause you will just fail anyway. Well i do know what to say BUT no i will not. I am sure you know now what type of person you are married to. I am sorry you will not have his support thru this. I hope you can other family or close friends to be there for you. You have to do this for you not for him, he does not live your life and sometimes you just have to do the most selfish thing in the world and save your own life with or without his support.

    Getting Back on Track

    1. hydration 2. protein 3. NO Sugar - not just reduced No sugar 4. No simple carbs - that's ALL the highly refined foods you find in the center of the store. 5. Get your carbs from veggies 6. While you are gaining weight no fruit - in moderation if your losing weight 7. no snacks after dinner Don't eat anything marked low fat - when fat is removed sugar is added to make it taste good. All of the above are goals they are not all or nothing. the closer you get to each goal the easier the weight will come off. good luck and welcome back

    Non Scale Victories

this needs to move back to the top for all to see and take heart from. NSV are important and each is personal and important to our mental health so i will share a small NSV this morning. Out of habit i sit here with my feet elevated as i have for years cause i need to keep the swelling down in my feet only as i look at my feet i realize i haven't need to do this for a while and i am doing it now out of pure habit. I have lost 2 shoes sizes in the last 10 months and the bones in my feet show now that the fat is mostly gone. The left foot is still larger than the right but it most likely will always be due to circulation issues that don't have anything to do with my WLS. So i sit here looking at my own feet and smiling cause i can see them sitting and just as importantly when i stand up.
