    Intro

    grats and welcome
  2. i have not found any food that i used to eat that is not tolerated now. couldn't stand the smell of coconut before and can't stand the smell now so nope nothing changed
  3. so my first night of decaf coffee.  different taste for sure hopefully will get used to it.

trying to decide if i should go back to regular during the day or just stay decaf 24 -7

if i dont get used to taste i might have to go decaf just so i will not notice the taste change from switching back and forth

    Rings too loose?

given some more time it will even out mostly by going away. this one was a great NSV for me - putting my wedding ring back on after years of it sitting in a drawer. then you may need it resized but wait for a few months
  5. yea nothin like looking at that 4th bite of food and going - ah never mind- then putting it down and just staring at that tiny plate with that tiny bit of food on it and not finishing it. thats what really brought it home to me.
  6. Me and the Scale have been having a staring contest this morning cause i want to weigh so bad it hurts but i know its a bad idea so i am trying to hold out.  I get this way every time i am at a threshold. in this case the 179/180 crossover. based on last weeks weight i should cross over to the 170's this week.

I have  only weighed 170 anything for 2 years of my adult life. oct 1984 till sometime in 1986 when i crossed back into the 180's

well i got the windows and doors open wide and the birds are singing. It is a California Classic today - for those poor souls that have never enjoyed one it is mid 70's to mid 80's and a slight breeze that just begs you to spend the day in the sun.

Now come August when its on its 27 day of 105+ i will be bitchin and moaning to no end :)

  7. This line alone could burn down the forums with the fires it starts. MY opinion - people didnt work out a system that worked with their lives everyday so when they got tired of doing the WL thing just like the diet thing they slowly added in tiny little reasons why they could just eat this once or a little and slowly over many many months followed by years the weight came back on. The Sleeve restriction will decrease with time You must develop habits that will take the place of the restriction when that time comes They must be fit your life and be easy to continue and not feel like a punishment You get 18-24 months to figure it out -if your lucky

Do you have to do low carb/Keto?

go forth and be a happy vegan. You can so do this with green leafy as you main food source. you will work harder on the protein side but still doable. remember Vegan doesn't mean healthy - highly refined grains that can put the pounds on you are still vegan so be careful that the carbs you get are from those leafy greens. I am not Vegan but my daughter is and we talk food choices all the time.

    Hospital must haves

The only Must - is you - everything else is window dressing but hell i am guy we tend to think bathing is optional so what do i know.
  10. look thru the other forums located here i believe there is a veterans forum. Read along with the people that have been there done that the longest and it should help you get a feel for what the long haul will be like. with the understanding that the people that failed the worst are not likely to be here at all.

    Keto after sleeve

i do low carb 50g or less daily but i don't do keto because the protein level is to restrictive for my taste. if you can meet your marco's and get your micro nutrients from those levels i don't see a problem. surgeons don't like anything that is not down the middle good for all cause they don't have time for one on one care so all the programs are designed to fit the avg. and cause the least problems. track carefully and get regular blood panels and be prepared to stop if any issues come up in your blood work. good luck and enjoy

    Possible I've Lost Too Much?

If you Always have a bottle of water(or reusable bottle) with you can cut out the dehydration and that will go a long to making you feel better. A small percentage of GS patients never get the hunger feeling back and you have to develop the habit of scheduled meals. You just have to learn to do this no if ands or buts about it. increase the amount of fat you eat in each meal until your weight is stable and lastly your weight is not low it is normal. it is really hard to get use to a normal weight after being over weight.
  13. If your out of control you have to regain that control. 1. track everything you eat 2. prioritize water 3. stop eating sugar - includes all the foods loaded with sugar 4. get out all those papers from your surgery and read the avoid these list again. 5. highly refined foods loaded with simple carbs are your path back to weight gain. how much of your grocery basket came from the 3 walls ? 1. produce 2. meats 3. dairy how much is from the center of the store ?

    IT HAPPENED!!!!

grats. i hope you have quick and easy recovery.
  15. thats all about your taste. i love spicy and had no issues with it so got spiciest flavors i could find. I just didnt like plain broth. i strained a lot of soup in those days but it was worth it for the flavor. grab your favorites or 1 of several different kinds till you see what you like and then get more of that.

    Non Scale Victories

i was on a couple blood pressure meds before and i used to take my blood pressure every day, sometimes more than once a day. after my WLS i was taken off all blood pressure meds but i continued to take my blood pressure daily for a while out of habit i guess. now some 10 months later i hadn't taken it in a while and this week i pulled out the old cuff and well about ****. i got a reading of 105/70 now understand i know that is fine but i have never in my life had a number that low i was always that guy right at the border of too high then one day i was over the border and making a run for it so i have been checking it to make sure it wasn't just a fluke and its within a few points every time. i was just happy to stop the meds never really considered just how much it would improve.

Protein - How much is too much?

Depends - i know its a lousy answer Your body uses the protein to repair and replace the cells that are broken down every minute of every day. A large portion of which occurs during sleep - so dont skimp on the sleep If at any time you consume more protein than you can use at that moment it is converted to glucose by the liver and you use it up. This is only a problem if you have to much glucose to begin with. now we all know none of us have that problem cause we are watching our sugar and carbs so if your sugar and simple carbs are low then the extra protein just burns up in your cells and muscles if you exceed what your body needs at any given time.

    Satisfying the BEAS T (hunger)

big do you still track your food? if so what is you fat percentage? Fat will provide that full feeling longer and will not spike your sugar/insulin response to the degree of the other macro's also you can "train" your ghrelin response so over time if you eat more often you get hungry more often it is a viscous cycle but will pass if given time. so if you fat percent in you food is low try to bump up the fat to help you go longer between meals. watch those sugars and simple carbs they will start you on that cycle of hungry every hour as those highly refined foods hit your system hard but wear off real quick and just leave you starving after.
  19. i do worry about that last one. addiction issues run in my family. alcohol, gambling, food seems if you got my blood in you you get to fight one or all of these. hell some days i think i am addicted to being worried about addiction haven't drank in 20 years cause i promised myself i would never be my father love poker so much i won't allow myself to play more than once or twice a year cause i see nothing but a dark road down that path Now food is gone so i spend my time worried about what i'll have to worry about next. some days the whole bigger brain thing just seems more trouble than its worth.
  20. Today in Topics "What your Doctor didn't tell you"

Brrr…! Remember the days when you were the hottest one in the room, and all you wanted was to stop sweating? Those may be in the past. Part of the slowed metabolism can be due to your body’s new mechanism to save energy, which means turning down the thermostat. Another possibly surprising side effect of weight loss is that having less cushioning (body fat), so sitting in chairs or lying in bed can be less comfortable.

man o' man do i know this one :)

    Cranky

    Cant lose regain

Sugar and Carbs are the root cause of the hungry an hour after i ate cycle. you have your blood sugar and of course your insulin level going up and down like a yo-yo cut ALL the sugar cut ALL the simple carbs your first meal should be protein and fat no carbs do not touch "fat free" foods if they label it like that look at the sugar grams they replace the fat with sugar. try to eat mostly from the 3 walls in the store 1 produce 2 meats 3 dairy reduce and or avoid the center of the store notice i didnt mention calories at all. if you want to try to eat 2500 calories of green leafy veggies i welcome you to it. If you remove highly refined foods from your diet the proper number of calories will take care of themselves. nothing here is all or nothing it is a goal - start toward it and work to reach the best level you can but dont give up just cause you cant get there in a week or two. do try to cut those sugars and shut down that yo-yo you will feel much better when you even out your blood sugar/ insulin spikes. good luck
  24. Fab, i did have someone with me and when i woke up from surgery i looked at them and said go home and i went right back to sleep till like 10:30 that night. i then started on the liquids with sugar free popsicles and then started walking and that went on till like 4:30 a.m. then i had a nap till my Dad brought my wife back to pick me up. So you can see i was alone most every hour i was awake. Is it better with support, yes is possible by yourself, yes you can do this. The first days are the hardest but each day gets easier and it gets better real fast. If you have never had a surgery it is hard to guess how your body will react and everyone reacts a little different. you could be going full speed by the weekend or maybe more slowly like getting over the flu but you will get there and the results will be worth it. good luck
  25. if you sip 1/2 oz every 5 minutes thats 6 oz per hour and 8 hrs later tada ya drank your water. you dont have to get a cetain amount each drink just work it small all the time it comes out the same in the end. water first protein second all others when you can as you can. in this first month you will not and can not actually starve to death so don't worry about food. you can however dehydrate and damage your recovery so make that job one. good luck everyday will get easier even if it takes a while before you realize it
