  1. omg...thank you so much for explaining this! I thought sliders where more liquid things like soups that don't stay in the stomach long because they slide through due to their "wettness" I had no idea cookies and chips were sliders too!

    No sip sip

I'm about 6 weeks out of surgery and I don't sip either. I can't guzzle a bottle of water, but I can drink it pretty normally without taking sips. Sometimes if I drink too fast I feel it and know I need to wait a while. I think you'd know if you were drinking too fast.
  3. This was really helpful for me too. Thanks for taking the time to write it all out. I also eat meat with just one meal...usually dinner. I love having a scrambled egg because there is no measuring or weighing. I just scramble one egg, and I'm done. I've seen people post on here that they use extra large or jumbo eggs. I'm 4 weeks post-op, and I just use a large egg. It's enough for me right now.
  4. I love this idea! I have a beautiful bowl I bought at a craft fair from a potter whose work I love. It's an eight ounce bowl and I use it for my dinners. I fill it about half way...sometimes , if I'm feeling full, I leave a bite or two...but I always feel comfortable that I haven't over eaten when I eat out of that bowl!
  5. lol! I was afraid I wouldn't be able to drink alot of water, and I drink water all day. My nut equates it to water running through a pipe...food stays with you for a while!

    Not Feeling Full?

I loved that my doctor told me how much I was expected to lose before my next appointment. Now I know what I'm working toward. I would definitely call so you have some idea of where they want you to be!
  7. I agree with what other have said. Liquids are easy. I can drink I cup of tea or coffee with no issues. I usually sip it for 20-30 minutes and it's fine. I noticed you said you can drink it in less than an hour. If you tried to gulp it down at once it would probably come back up, but you're giving it time to move through your stomach to the intestine. I am four weeks out from surgery and am so happy I can drink!!! Eating is different, but I'm still on soft foods so I have a lot to learn. When I start full solids I'm sure it'll all be different again.

    Not Feeling Full?

I'm glad you're seeing some progress. I have lost half a pound to a pound each day or two. It's coming off, but I guess I expected it to move faster because I'm eating so much less. I'm also being really careful to eat a very low carb diet, and before my surgery that always worked well for me. I guess I feel like I'm following the low carbs and eating so little that the weight should be melting off. As long as I continue to see progress I'll be fine. I think my issue is more that my expectations might not have been realistic. Yesterday was my 4 week anniversary of my surgery and I'm down 33 pounds I think. That's good progress so I just need to keep it up. When I saw my surgeon last Monday he told me I should lose another 20 pounds before my next appt. at the end of September. I've lost 5-6 in the last week so I think I'm on track.
  9. So, I'm not good at counting things like carbs or calories. Do you count them? Before my surgery I was an Atkins girl. If I stick to it I do really well and I feel so much better without the carbs. So now that I've had the surgery I'm eating the same types of things, but in much smaller amounts. I eat one egg scrambled in the morning...if I put turkey or ham in it with cheese I weigh out 2.5 ounces. For lunch I drink about 5 ounces of a protein shake and for dinner I have something like 2 ounces of salmon and 1-2 ounces of green beans. My veggies have to be canned or cooked because I'm still on the soft foods stage of the diet. I would love a small salad or something but I'm not allowed to eat any raw/fresh fruits or veggies yet. So, I'm not really counting things like carbs or calories. Does this sound similar to anyone else's food plan???
  10. I love your attitude! I'm going to try really hard to embrace the stalls but I have to be honest...I want to be losing more weight more qucikly. This isn't because I'm not doing well. I'm down over 30 pounds in about 3 and a half weeks. It's just that I'm impatient
  11. Ok, this morning I made scrambled eggs with some lean turkey and black pepper. I very carefully weighed out 2.5 ounces and my son ate the rest. i'm going to be super careful to weigh everything today and drink water all day...I need that scale to move. I'm tired of seeing 297-298...

    Not Feeling Full?

I never feel full after a few bites. I'm about 4 weeks out of surgery and I can eat most proteins, but not pork or beef. If I'm having salmon or chicken I don't feel full after a few bites. I've been posting on here that I'm nervous I'm eating too much...so I have a food scale and now I'm weighing everything. I eat about 2 ounces of protein and then I stop...even if I feel like I could eat more. I don't want to be full to the point of feeling sick but I would love that feeling of fullness and knowing I ate enough and should stop.
  13. What is NUT? I've also had a stall. I lost about 27 pounds in the first 2 weeks and only 3.5 pounds in the last week and a half. This is very discouraging to me. I feel like I eat almost nothing every day but the pounds aren't coming off as quickly as I'd like them to!
  14. Hey everyone! I had my surgery on August 1, and I'm feeling great. I would love a group of people to share this journey with. I'm looking for some buddies who are going through the same things I am. My family is very supportive, but they don't really understand. Anyone game? We can do weigh in's if you want or just be there to support each other. Looking forward to hearing from you!
  15. It's funny thta you wrote this. My surgery was on August 1st, and I've lost 30 pounds. I know tha sounds like a lot, but it was all in the first 2 weeks. I haven't lost anything since. I'm following the diet, but not losing. I saw my doctor on Monday. He said it happens and not to be concerned. Just keep doing what I'm doing and maybe up the exercise to give my weight loss a boost. I want that scale to move! I feel like I took this major step in having this surgery and now I need results. I'm so afraid to fail at this like every other diet I've tried.
  16. I have a digital Weight Watchers scale...I just needed to find it! Spent the day cleaning out cabinets, and there it was! I am happy to say there was more turkey than I expected in an ounce. I had 1 ounce of turkey and 6 ounces of crab bisque soup, and I feel great! Since the soup was liquid I was able to eat a bit more of that...and now I'm done for the day. I have cottage cheese and mango (fruit cup in light syrup) at about 11:30...so I feel like I did a really good job today. The scale helped me to know I was on the right track and didn't overdo it!
  17. Thank you so much for posting pictures. I'm eating maybe 3 tablespoons of cottage cheese and that's lunch. I'm glad to see that it gets more normal. One more question...do you still measure and weigh everything? You said you eat 2-3 ounces of protein at a meal. Are you estimating or still measuring each time? I need to buy a food scale because right now I'm just guessing.
  18. I've been reading your posts, and I find you very helpful! I was sleeved 3 weeks ago, and I'm really trying to figure this all out and often feeling like I'm doing it all wrong. My nutritionist has me on a soft food diet for the next few weeks. This week I can add fish and shellfish...next week I can add chicken...etc. She told me to start with a 1 ounce portion. I am tolerating that just fine and really want more. Is 1 ounce of protien typical of a meal or is this just while it's new. I find myself eating more than I'm supposed to and then feeling really guilty about it. I also have 4 children, and I do the cooking so I find myself sampling what I'm making while I'm cooking and then eating my 1 ounce dinner. Any thoughts?

    Need a pal...or several!

Everyone's doctor is different. Mine didn't ask me to lose before the surgery so I was eating all my favorite things knowing I wouldn't have them for a while. After the surgery I was on a clear liquid diet for 2 weeks. I was very hungry. it was hard making dinner for my family and then sitting with a cup of black tea while they ate. Now that I'm on soft foods I don't feel hungry at all. When I do I can eat, and the smalled bit satisfies me. Like Kaja said, sometimes you think you're hungry...alot of it for me is emotional connection to food. I'll smell dinner cooking and think I'm starving.

Rosanna, those gas bubbles get better. I drink all day long...starts out with little sips, but I can drink more at a time now. Take it slow and give yourself time. I'm so glad you posted and you're doing well!
  22. Yesterday was my first day on soft foods too. I ate a scrambled egg, and had a similar experience. It sat in my stomach like a lump and took most of the day for that feeling to go away. My doctor said no meat this this week. Next week I can start phasing in fish, the week after is chicken, the then pork. Beef is last, so that's still a month out. He also reccomended no broccoli or beans for gas purposes. I can have soft veggies like cooked carrots, potatoes, green beans... I guess I was so excited to eat something that I ate too fast. I'm taking it really slow today. Started my day with a bit of cottage cheese and some canned pear. That went down just fine! Good luck to you. I hope your second day is better!

    Need a pal...or several!

I love that there are people posting here, and it makes me feel better to have someone to talk to. We're all going through this together, and I know we're all different and we won't have the exact same reactions to the surgery...but it helps me to have someone to talk to So, just to update our little group, I had my nutritionist appt. today, and I can eat food! Right now it's soft food, but each week I can add something new...like fish and then chicken, etc. She was very impressed that I've lost 27lbs in 2 weeks! I'm excited about it too. Great motivation to keep going strong!!!

    Need a pal...or several!

Rosana, OMG!!! Good luck tomorrow! I wasn't sluggish, but I was tired. I still haven't started a regular exercise plan, but I am keeping active. I have four kids so driving to sports, grocery shopping, laundry, and other regular chores are enough for me right now. When I over-do it I know. Then I have to sit for a while. Just listen to your body, and don't forget this is a major surgery so you need time to heal. Please keep in touch and let us know how you're doing! Tammy
