  1. Hey all! I was sleeved on Jan 23, 2018. Yesterday was my one month surgiversary! Hubby took measurements for me a couple days prior to surgery and redid them last night to see how things have progressed beyond the scale. Woo hoo! We've got a good start going! Not sure why we went metric, but here's the results: 2 cm off belly/waist 6 cm off hips - YASSS!!! Explains why pants are seriously baggy 4 cm off bust 3 cm off neck - who knew I was carrying so much fat around my neck? 2 cm off rt arm 1 cm off right calf 2 cm off right thigh So thrilled with this! I can't wait to see what the numbers look like on Mar 23! My coats and jackets and clothes are getting big. It's still winter, so cold winds blowing up under loose jackets is becoming a problem! I did score a new fleece jacket for only $15 on a clearance sale today. It's way too small yet, but I will get there soon!
  2. Yogurt soup sounds good! I'm going to have to look for walden farms products here. I remember seeing them back in MD. Good for you on the poopin keep up with the benefiber you've started. I had no problems at all, but started soft foods this week and now - wham - issues. Doing benefiber today but may have to pick up something else tomorrow (or tonight!) to get things moving.
  3. Hey all - less than a month out from surgery and looking to prep. Reviewing the NUT info, they recommend mixing unflavored protein powder in things like applesauce or yogurt during the pureed stage. Tells me to look for powders with at least 15g protein and less than 3 g sugar. Had been looking at syntrax, but that's only 10g protein. Any recommendations? I've heard of genepro and isopure. Haven't found a local GNC yet (moved a year ago and haven't needed one til now) but have been browsing amazon. Thanks!
  4. All I really used were chapstick, biotene mouth spray, a brush/comb, and phone and charger.

    Change Your Hospital

Kakatlady - everyone's already giving you good advice. I just want to add HUGS and prayers.
  6. Yep. The first few days it really hadn't settled in that I'd done anything inside! Once you start on foods and feel some restriction it becomes real. 1 month for me today! Can't wait to do measurements later

    Does your stomach feel normal?

No feeling in my actual stomach other than my volume is way down. First couple days after getting out of hospital it gurgled but that has stopped. My program recommends 1/4 cup servings to start. Still on that except for yogurt, where I can eat more. My incisions, at 4 weeks out, are itching like crazy. yesterday no. Today OMG. I found a dose of children's benadryl helps me to sleep without waking up itching.
  8. Excellent news! Congrats Mizz Fluffy!
  9. I had a 45 day prescription with 3 refills, but he told me to stop after 3 weeks. But I have them if I have any discomfort!

    What to expect

I was sleeved 4 weeks ago tomorrow. Pretty much everything you've read above. My anesthesiology team put an anti nausea patch behind my ear prior to surgery and I had no nausea problems. You'll wake up groggy, as you'd expect. The first day I stayed pretty drowsy and just drifted in and out of sleep, hitting my pain button when necessary. I didn't have fluids most of the first day, but was on IVs so didn't get dehydrated. Once you can, you'll want to get up and walk, to help break up the gas if nothing else. I had ice chips until my leak test. The nurses woke me every 4 hours for vitals, but I didn't mind. They were really sweet. I was lucky - no nausea and the pain was not horrible (aka well-managed). I even managed to avoid the evil catheter. You're going to do great! Don't worry!

Help what does these mean ???

Back when I was doing weight watchers, OP meant "on plan"
  13. Fluffer(nutter) - catching up after some time offline. It's here! You've been such a faithful help and inspiration to this community - we're here for you! You, my dear, are going to absolutely ROCK THIS! And I'm in awe of your pre-op broths. I just toughed out my liquid time with protein shakes. I love to cook but took the easy way out - wish I'd employed the creativity you have! We'll see you on the other side!
  14. Kakatlady - doing some catchup after going back to work and being offline for a bit. So sorry to hear about all the sh*t you've been going through. I did read the pulled pork post and thought "what a wench". Not about you! You keep being your helpful self! hugs!

    Unsure, need help

Not sure what to tell you, but going through this along side of your boyfriend could be a great support idea for both of you. I'd take the first step while you consider. Taking that step doesn't commit you to anything, but gets you started now in case you decide to go with it. Maybe make a list of pros and cons? Goals in life and how surgery may/may not help you reach them? I'm only 4 weeks out so can't claim miraculous cures yet, but my brother was sleeved a few years ago. He had medical issues and had gotten so large that his legs were starting to bow. He reports that everything in life is so much easier now. For me, my decision was finalized (while I was starting through the steps) when, while on vacation, I realized that things I really wanted to do were off-limits to me simply due to my size. I was tired of letting my weight make decisions for me. Good luck to you and your boyfriend!

One month to the next - Pics

Definitely! I can see it in your face for sure. Good job!
  18. Just moving to soft foods and last night I made one of our family's favorite dishes - Crustless Four-Cheese Quiche (search taste of home for it). Probably not low fat, but definitely good protein and full of flavor. And soft! Hubby and I actually sat down for dinner at the same time and ate the same thing for a change! So nice and delicious! Of course, in the time it took me to eat a half portion, he had one and a half.....

    Day 6 post op mood

the urge to chew is real. I'm moving to soft foods tomorrow and off from purees and am super excited. My dietitian did tell me when i went to purees that i could have cottage cheese and just chew it good instead of pureeing it. That did seem to help. She advised sugar free popcicles for crunch. Not sure that quite fills the bill, but they are tasty and initially not just mush Good luck to you!

    January 2018 Sleevers HERE

Hang in there! My surgeon reminded me at my 3 week postop appointment that it won't always be a straight bee-line down on the scale. Told me it was fine to weigh myself as long as it's not anxiety inducing. Are there other things you can eat, other than what the surgeon provided? Dannon light and fit yogurt has been one of my go-tos. And I mixed some low-fat ricotta with splenda (or stevia), vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg -- that's gone down quite well. I remember one of my leaders from weight watchers reminding those who weren't eating all their points and not losing - you do have to eat to lose weight. Your body will tell you. Good luck!

    January 2018 Sleevers HERE

I did get one for my regular meds post surgery. Just really hate the taste of crushed pills. I figure since I have options and my need for calcium will never go away, I'll just keep the tablets on hold for right now. But thanks!
  22. I was sent home from the hospital with a prescription of omeprazole. It was capsules to take 2x per day. I had to open them and pour the little "sprinkle" into a little bit of applesauce on a spoon (only way to swallow the little suckers and not have them float around your mouth). At my 3 week appointment the doc told me to stop taking them. If I get reflux I can restart, but he thinks I should be fine. So, you may not need to stock up too much.

    January 2018 Sleevers HERE

Ouch! Tuesday will be my 4 week surgeversary. At my appointment Friday the dietitian told me to start with calcium citrate and vitamin D. Went shopping yesterday and found citrical so tried that this afternoon. Those tablets are HUGE. Split them in half (need to invest in a pill splitter) but they were still too big and hurt going down. Still feel a bit like I have a rock in my chest! Went to amazon and ordered some chews but they won't arrive until Wednesday. In the meantime, gonna wait on that calcium. Citrical in a few months maybe, but chews for now. PSA for other new sleevers.....
