  1. Well today I am 10 weeks from surgery 09/18/17 and 28 pounds down since surgery, 48 pounds overall. Love the energy I have. Realized last night I gotta kick my cardio up a notch or two. Enjoying strength training and seeing myself shrink. Bought a full length mirror for the first time in years and don’t get disgusted when I look in the mirror. I am going back to shakes for a bit to hopefully get out of the 200s this year. I’m in a size 13 pants from a size 19 and a size 18 top from a size 22. I’m eating between 800-1100 calories a day and do 3-4 hours of cardio a week and strength training 3 times a week. Food doesn’t control me anymore. Food is just fuel and sweets don’t even taste good. I am addicted to Envy apples now however. Eat a quarter to half an apple a day. Haven’t tried pasta or rice, but buns and fresh bread aren’t worth the discomfort. Love my new tool!

  3. I am having a tearing/pulling, burning pain to the right of my belly button more than an inch from any incision. It is fine if I lay down and don’t move. The moment I get up and move now it hurts so much. I cannot bend over and walking hurts so much. It used to wax and wane, but now it is almost constant after I sit up and pain pills aren’t working. It used to help if I applied pressure, but even that hurts now. Anyone else had a similar issue?? Left a message for my nurse again since it is getting worse.
  4. Pain only happens when I bend over too far or strain my stomach muscles too much now. I can finally walk and take a shower without being in excruciating pain!

    Post Op Frustration

Every bariatric program is different and the RD for the program will go by their program’s guidelines. Mine says it doesn’t count, as do many unfortunately. I can only intake about 3 ounces of anything in a 20 to 30 minute time frame and then I am full. I would be drinking 24 hours a day to get it all in, so I do what I can. I added soft protein this week tho, but still only get 3 ounces down of anything.

    Post Op Frustration

Oh I wish! They don’t count towards my water intake. I do think it’s pretty much impossible, so I do what I can. The nurse made it very clear, as does our patient handbook.

    Post Op Frustration

I have this same problem as far as getting in protein. I also had surgery on the 18th but came home on the 20th. It does get better, but I have no idea how we are supposed to get in 64 ounces of water plus 60 grams of protein a day. My largest incision hurts like heck but is getting better. I don’t take the pain meds either cause I don’t want to be constipated and don’t want to sleep all day either. Stay positive. I was told get in my water and then worry about protein.
  8. My surgery was 09/18 and I was discharged 09/20. I am 5 days post op at this point and I am definitely not getting in the water and protein they want me to. I am not really hungry but know I need some protein but am tired of shakes. I am supposed to get in 60 ounces of protein shakes and 64 ounces of water a day before progressing to soft proteins like eggs, yogurt, cottage cheese, etc. I tolerate the protein shakes ok, just not much at a time. My largest incision hurts when I sit down, stand up or walk, but it is improving a little each day. Coughing is awful however! I have showered and that was great. Lifting any amount of weight really hurts my incisions though. The orange Vitamin Water Zero has been great. I only took pain meds until day 3 post op, only been on Tylenol since. I don’t want the constipation that goes along with pain meds. This is not all unicorns and rainbows, but each day gets better. I am not regretting it, but it’s not the easy way out. I haven’t lost as much as I would have liked to since surgery, but I know I haven’t taken in hardly any protein, so today is the day I up that and get up and around more. I have been walking a bit, looking to increase that as well.
  9. Two protein shakes a day with less than 6 grams of carbs each and 20-30 grams of protein made with water. Then two small meals a day consisting of 3-5 ounces of protein and 1/2 to 1 cup veggies.
  10. My surgery is Monday the 18th! I am excited to get this done and over with and back home Tuesday or Wednesday. I am having the VSG! Been doing preop diet, lost 8 pounds this last week. Using Jay Robb strawberry protein, can't stand any others at this point and I choose to avoid artificial sweeteners like sucralose as much as possible. HW 273, CW 242, goal - happier and healthier

    My apologies.

    frustration!!

If your physician will allow check out Plexus Protein shakes. They are great tasting, plant based and made with Stevia. You have to buy them from a distributor which I am not.
  14. The difference in preop diets is crazy! We have two week of two protein shakes made with water (no premade shakes and must have 20 grams of protein, less than 6 carbs and whey protein isolate or soy protein isolate must be the first ingredient) and then we get two meals a day consisting of 3-5 ounces of lean protein and 1/2 to 1 cup veggies (non starchy) plus 64 ounces water daily and of course our supplements. We can have sugar free jello and popsicles if we want too. The day before surgery we have only two bottles of Isopure and 64 ounces of water. I have heard the requirements to shrink the liver have changed and no longer require all liquids for two weeks. I won't complain!
  15. September 18th is my day!!! So excited. Start my two week preop diet tomorrow. Daily I get two protein shakes a day made with water and two meals with 3-5 ounces of lean meat and 1/2 to 1 cup of veggies plus my 64 ounces of water. The day before surgery of course I get just two bottles of Isopure and my 64 ounces of water. I thought I would want to have a "food funeral" this weekend and I would go hog wild, but I really haven't. I had a payday and some some mac and cheese, but nothing sounds good so that's a good thing too.
  16. I would like to do some pre 2 week preop diet pictures and day of surgery pictures and during the postop phase pictures to really have a good reminder of what I went thru and how much has changed. Did anyone do this and if so what are your recommendations for outfits and poses? Did you use the same outfits or different? Any ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Surgery is 09/18, preop diet starts 09/04. Stats: 38 years old, 5'5" tall, HW 273, CW 252, GW 160
  17. Me, me, me!! September 18th, start two week preop diet on Labor Day! HW 273, CW 252, GW 160, 5'5".
  18. I am having mine at Saint Luke's in Kansas City!
  19. Got my date!!!! September 18th is my day!!!
  20. My physician gave us two choices for vitamins. The multivitamin is about $35 a month and the calcium is $30 a month. Bariatric Advantage is what I went with since it was taken less often than the others. I am also going to get some Biotin to help with hair regrowth.
  21. I have to just remember that this decision is for my and my health. It's time to take care of me. I was supposed to have six months with nutritionist and exercise physiologist before surgery which would have put me in December or January, but my insurance changed their requirements and it's just three months so I have my last appt next week and then every thing will be submitted to insurance. I thought I had three more months to prepare but I would rather have surgery on September than wait. So I am doing a lot of research and reading books. best of luck to you. It will be worth it. I know a handful of people who have had weight loss surgery and none of them regret it.
  22. Awesome!!!! I'm hoping for surgery around that time too.
  23. I had my EKG and got my medical clearance yesterday!! Everything I needed to do to be submitted to insurance is done except for my last nutrition/exercise appt which is next Wednesday! Getting excited. Have lost a few pounds this week too!!
  24. I understand it can be emotional, I have had a few friends that have had WLS, but I also never feel like I have to defend myself to anyone about anything. That's the joy of being an adult. I also accept that my relationships with some individuals may change, but that's expected.
