My surgeon's office never gave me a goal weight. I am going with 190 though. I'm 5'10", and I've lost 250 pounds at this point, so I have excess skin all over, which adds weight to me.

My surgeon's office didn't set a goal for me. I picked one mid-range on the BMI chart.

Thanks everybody for your responses. They have been very helpful! And @AZhiker, your post may have hit a little too close to home for comfort. 😔
I think I need to distinguish 2 weights in my mind: the 1) expected results (from program) and 2) my ideal body weight, which I have never seen as an adult. I think I will use the expected weight loss as my first goal, and go from there.
Thanks again all for your responses. They have helped me to formulate a plan.

Yeah, you have 2 groups of peeps who count carbs: those who net, and those who do not--but mostly they probably only saw the word "tortilla" and extrapolated that it was a standard carb one.

Just because you CAN doesn't mean you SHOULD. Watch those portions. Stay at 1/2 cup.

I could eat that much at 3 months, but the bigger question is "Should I?" or Should YOU?
What is your quantity you should be having at 3 months? Cuz at 3 months, I think my total volume range per meal was between 1/2-1cup--focusing on trying not to exceed 3/4cup.
At almost 18months, I still only have a maximum volume of 1cup allowed--even though I can easily exceed that at any meal...

I'm 17 months out, and I feel way better than normal. I had clearly forgotten what it felt like to be a healthy weight, and I definitely didn't appreciate it back in my 20's. I seriously feel joyful so much of the time.
I can feel mildly nauseous, if I eat too much too fast, but it passes quickly. I have had a few quite mild dumping-esque incidents, unusual for a sleever, but nearly all liquid sugar related (no more vietnamese coffee for me ) I have vomited twice since surgery, both times from Vitamins on an empty stomach. I've always been sensitive to pills, same thing would have happened pre WLS. I have an Iron sleeve, almost nothing bothers it.

Everyone handles maintenance differently. We each have our own weight gain risk factors. Its important to know yourself. Will you need to remind yourself you had surgery? Is it healthy habits? Precautions? Simply eating less? Do whatever works for you to maintain and not go back to obesity.
Five years out, I never want to feel like my normal “obese” self before surgery. I feel better than normal after weight loss and maintaining in the 130's. I have no issues. I bounced back with minimal pain and I have no complications (Gerd, dumping or vomiting etc.)
Personally, I don’t need to remind myself. I have a healthy lifestyle. Maintaining has become habit/mundane. I don’t put much thought into it. I eat mainly healthy and indulge within reason. I give myself a ten-pound bounce range. If I gain, I go back to weight loss mode and work it off.

I am only 6 months out but I relate to all you said - I take Pantoprazole for GERD (however don't really ever feel like I get heartburn except I will say I have also woken up choking on stomach acid at least 5 times now. And yes the stomach noises (gurgles, and weird sounds) can be obnoxious! All in all I am still losing weight and very happy I made this decision.

My original goal weight was 180 set by both the surgeon and myself. I made goal my first year and then I set the 170 goal which I have also made and stayed under for the last few months. I have lost approximately 90 + % of my excess weight. I wear a size 10 jeans and med tops and am comfortable where I am, although sometimes part of me says I should get to 155 for the normal BMI. The other part says if I didn't have the extra skin I would be there, sigh.

I will be 2 years out 8/9 and I am very happy I did this, but I am like you in the thought, will I ever not be reminded that I had this surgery and the answer for me is no. I had Gerd immediately after surgery and take meds for it daily, so how can I forget ? Also I still can only eat small amounts and still feel like its Thanksgiving everyday ! Knowing what I know now I would still do it all over again in a heartbeat . Maybe this will change in a few years and maybe it wont but I am much happier for sure .

I could not have eaten that much at 3 to 4 months post op, I do remember making low carb high Protein enchiladas around that time to 6 months and could only eat half. I rarely eat bread or low carb tortillas still because its hard for me to get it in.

I have about 10 extra pounds of skin/fat that are going nowhere and I work out like a demon. I fence (as in en garde) 6-7 hours a week, do a cross fit type class three hours a week, work with a personal trainer 1 hour a week and do pilates and yoga another 2 hours a week. Every other weekend I am fencing competitively. I have a pouch. Nothing is going to do anything about it until I have plastics. If I tighten my abdominals under it you can see the six pack that is there, but that fat and skin is going to have to be surgically removed. You can tighten up the muscles, but that won't cure the giggle.

My signature line contains my goals.
My surgeon's and RD's goals were 160 and 156lbs respectively and are based on a very strict formula used by ASMBS which includes the predicted 65% loss of EBW for RNY surgery.
Goal 1 was mine 150lbs (they were both on board with me cuz it wasn't that far off their goal) = high school weight.
Goal 2 was mine 140lbs (they were skeptically on board but when I hit it wanted me to stop there) = "normal BMI" per chart below...I'm very average and BMI charts are predictive for me and 140lbs is barely within normal for my height.
Goal 3 was mine 130lbs (they think I'm too thin and there is no advantage to being this weight) = smack in the middle of my "normal BMI" per the chart and where I "think" I will finally be happy with the size of my booty and thighs. I'm 4 lbs away today.
Goal BDG is mine 125lbs (don't know if I'm going for this one yet or not...they think it's unrealistic at only 5lbs from "Ideal" per ASMBS. BDG=Barbie Dream Girl Goal=where I think I would be a smokin' 57y hottie. LOL.

I've been struggling with the slowest weight loss and longest stall ever in history (being a little dramatic, but still...). I'm not very close to my own chosen goal, and my therapist suggested I compare what my goal is compared to my program's. I dug out my paperwork, and the program's goal for me is 18 pounds heavier.
I see a lot of people here with a similar height to mine that have a goal weight of 50 pounds or more less than mine.
So I'm just curious, where did everyone's listed goal weight come from? Thanks everyone.

My goal weight in my profile came from what my doctor said he thought I could get to. They actually list my "Ideal" weight as 117 lbs but I'm not sure I need to go that low. I need to be 123 to be a "normal" BMI so that is kind of what I'm shooting for. Any weight less than that is a bonus! I see my doctor today and I'll see what he thinks about my goal. I'm now a size 4 petite in pants, XS-S in tops...I ok with that!

I used my own. Back in the days nobody seemed to talk about goal weights. When I had my revision nobody talked about about a goal weight either.

I'm not sure what you're allowed on your plan at this point, but after I was a couple months out, I could eat more than I was supposed to. That's when I had to be really careful to weigh and measure things to be sure I was only eating what I was supposed to be eating.
