    Tracy,

Maybe for the first year or so you should weigh your food. I know it’s a hassle but I read someone’s post and they weigh exactly 4 oz (maybe 5, can’t recall) every meal to make sure it’s not more than their pouch allows, and she said she never dumps or feels bad.
I’m definitely going to have to do this.
I had a rough night last night. The pain is not letting up yet. I know it’s only day 4 of a big surgery but I can barely walk and sitting up in bed , even with the help of my adjustable bed is so hard! I feel like someone tied a brick inside of me and when I move or stand up the gravity pulls it down and it hurts so much .

My stomach kept me up all night grumbling, screaming, and making scary sounds. I guess that means it’s working?

We’ll figure this thing out! Glad I have you to talk to friend.

Yes, I will be weighing my Protein from now on and eating slower. I am thinking 3oz depending on what it is and if i am having anything with it.

Sorry you are having a hard time. Hang in there it really does get better. It took me a good 6 weeks. I have heard of people saying it feels like a brick in their chest before. I didnt really have that so much. I had more gas, shoulder pain and the pain on my left side. Its all gone now.

In the beginning all that racket that our tummies make can be pretty scary and mine still does from time to time. I think they are just not happy and letting us know about it , lol.

You can come and send me messages anytime. I am here whenever you need a friend. HUGS

  2. Weighing in this morning at 165.8. I am 2 months post op from my revision from VSG to GP today. I lost 2 lbs this month and am 1 lb away from my lowest weight last summer. I dont expect to lose anymore weight but if I do I will take it as a buffer. I would like to stay under 170 for life !!

I had my first episode of too much food the other day. I ate pork steak and being too full made me sick but I could not throw up, so I was miserable for almost 2 hours !! I didnt weigh it but I am guessing it was around 4 to 5 oz. Never again. So I do have restriction with solid Protein but I think I ate too fast and by the time my brain caught up it was too late ! The restriction is not the same as with VSG but it is restriction although I cant explain it.

I quit tracking my food around the 5th of July because I noticed my weight creeping up a little. For some reason I do better not tracking after I get going, this happened with my VSG. In Jan of 2019 I quit tracking and lost around 10 lbs and kept it off all last summer. The only thing I can think is I was obsessed with food and stayed to focused on it tracking and would eat up to X amount of calories and protein even if I wasnt hungry. I was like oh I didnt get all my calories so I will just have this ect ect ect. I am weird I know, lol.

I am still having the burning acid from time to time, but it isnt as often as it was with the sleeve. I am hoping my esophagus is healing but wont know anything until I go see the Dr. for my checkup in August and am scheduled for an EGD. I think I have another hiatal hernia. I say this because sometimes I feel like something is stuck in my throat when eating like before just not as often.

All in all I am doing much better then I was at the beginning of this bypass and am getting use to it.

I , too, am doing it because of GERD , I didn’t have much regain , I was just wondering if it would be extremely different post op or similar

It has been very different for me. I didnt feel any restriction after the revision. It was also more painful for me but I had a hiatal hernia repair also. I was given yogurt and strained Soup in the hospital the same day as surgery.

Yikes...that worries me too. I’m scheduled this Saturday for surgery and I’ve been eating like I’ve already had the surgery. What’s kept me on track with my weight loss is eating protein..,are u eating enough Protein? I Think it keeps you full longer...I guess I’ll find out afterwards. Wishing you luck my friend. I hope you stay well and keep your weight balanced. You’re already at a good weight so just maintain it xo

How are you ? Hope you are doing well and your surgery went well.

July 21st , I will be getting a revision to RNY . How different is life after VSG to life after RNY ... ?

If you are doing this for weight loss it will be harder as far as I am concerned. You also may not have the same kind of restriction that you are use to with the sleeve. I will be 2 months out revision to bypass due to GERD on the 22nd. I lost 12lbs the first month and have not lost anymore weight. I can eat more then I could with the sleeve and have no issues with food other then dumping but I stay away from those things since I know what they are. Good luck.

Hmmmmmmmmmm, are you sure it's head hunger and not more subtle hunger signals than you're used to?

Also what exactly do you mean by "eating a lot"? When you take a look at your intake from an outside-WLS point of view: would it still be seen as a lot? Views on portions sizes are quite often pretty warped in the WLS universe, same with the amount of calories people refer to as "a lot", that's why I'm asking.

Your BMI is about 26-27 if I calculated that correctly (sorry, metric girl here). It's harder to tolerate a caloric deficit the lower your weight is. I became pretty much intolerant to a calorie deficit myself and I definitely would be f*cking starving on what some people on here refer to as "a lot of food". I'm maintaining at a BMI of 23 but I agree: sometimes it feels indeed a bit scary.

Yeah its my head telling me to eat after I just got done eating, lol. I can eat a goodie and not dump after a meal. I am not trying to do that but in my baking mode I made peach cobbler and banana muffins and of course I had to try it. Its okay though they are not my favorite and I am able to stay away.

I can eat a whole sm salad and the Soup, lol. I made meatball soup and strawberry salad it was and still is wonderful. I was just surprised I could eat it all and half of a banana muffin.

I just have a poor metabolism and need to watch what I eat and keep my calories around 1200 or less to maintain. I am older too and menopaused .

  7. I weighed in at 169.4 this morning.

Lets talk about head hunger !!! I am hardly ever hungry if ever but I have raging head hunger lately and its driving me nutz and stressing me out...…. I am not saying that I never had head hunger with the sleeve but the difference is I could not and didn't eat past full. I am not saying I could not eat around it but usually didn't. This is so much different because I can eat a lot more food now with this bypass and rarely feel anything. I am not pushing myself I am just saying head hunger is a beast with this thing and I hate it. It has crossed my mind that I may need to go get some help with this head hunger if I cant keep a leash on it.

Honestly I feel like I never had WLS to begin with now and I am afraid and nervous. How do people say they have a tool to work with when you cant feel anything ? Well hopefully my GERD will be gone and I wont have to worry about cancer anymore.

That’s scary about the weight loss but maybe your body is where it’s supposed to be. You look great! Good news about the gerd..,praying it stays at bay. How’s the eating? Any more dumping episodes? What’s tour daily menu like if you don’t mind sharing. I’m curious because you say you don’t have the same fullness as you did with the sleeve.
    wishing you all the best.

I do think my body is where it is suppose to be. I am at my high school weight pretty much. I have not had anymore dumping episodes. ( I do sometimes feel yucky after eating )

Breakfast is usually yogurt and fruit or scrambled egg and sausage or bacon

lunch has been leftovers or salad the last few days with some tuna

dinner is chicken, beef , fish, or pork and usually a potato ( or rice) and veggie.

Snacks are normally fruit. Berries, pineapple, and watermelon. I also bought some 2 carb fudge bars and frozen fruit bars. . Protein Shakes too.

Tonight I am having pork steak on grill with veggie. I am going to drop the shakes after this box is gone since I am eating pretty well and getting in up to 1200 calories a day. I am going to tweak some things and see what happens.

  9. Weighing in at 169.8 this morning. I am up a 2 lbs from last week and it looks like unless I want to eat just 800 calories a day I am done losing at this point. This sucks because I was hoping to have some room for a few lbs of regain but am sticking right where I did last summer without the restriction I had with sleeve, meaning this is all up to me without a tool as far as I am concerned. So disappointing.

The good news is that for the last 4 mornings I have not woke up with the burning !!! I am so hoping that this GERD will be gone so I can get off the PPI or this surgery was for nothing !!

my first time posting on this particular thread - it came highly recommended!

this is my Breakfast - a grilled peach topped with vanilla Greek yogurt and sprinkled with cinnamon (a food photographer I am not, obviously!). I love this dish in the summer during peach season, but I usually have it for dessert or a snack. But I woke up this morning wanting it for breakfast. So...here it is!

I am eating same thing except having strawberries instead of the peach, its yummy !

I had my revision done on 6/29. There were a few little hiccups--after surgery I couldn't pee, so I needed a catheter, and I lost quite a lot of blood and needed 2 units of packed red blood cells transfused, which upped my hemoglobin level enough to where I'm anemic now but not fainting when I stand up. It was a long surgery, as I had three procedures done--a myotomy to fix the esophageal stricture I got from GERD, a hernia repair, and the RNY. I was originally supposed to come home on July 1, but my drain was still bloody and filling quickly, so I stayed until this afternoon, 7/3. I still have the drain, it's supposed to come out Monday. I have had two episodes of "heartburn" but neither were in my new stomach, but in the intestine, because the burning is above my bellybutton but below my rib cage. My stomach is much higher up and has not hurt at all. I cannot tell you how happy I am that I am not regurgitating everything I swallow and that I can sleep through the night without acid crawling up into my mouth. My nurse was quite concerned when I finished an 11 oz. Protein Shake in fifteen minutes, but the surgeon told her it was fine as long as I could tolerate swallowing things that fast. Because I'm at goal and don't want to lose any more weight, he also said for the next two weeks I could eat anything I could pour, but to be careful of sugar and fat content in case I dump. This brought back memories of a Saturday Night Live sketch called "Bass-O-Matic" (it's on YouTube, it's a hoot) but blending a whole fish is not on the menu. I have not had much pain, mostly gas because he had to operate so high up in the chest he put a lot of gas in. I came out of surgery with both eyes swollen shut because the gas seeped into my face, but it is mostly gone now. Now it looks like I have bags under my eyes. I loved my sleeve and tried everything to keep it but the GERD was just too bad. Hoping I come to love the bypass too.

Glad you are home and doing well.

Its crazy being able to drink like that after surgery. I was able to do that as well. There are plenty of things you will be able to get down without making you lose that much weight. You will be surprised of how easy I am sure. Be very careful dumping is horrible !

I loved my sleeve too and miss it. Hoping someday I will feel better about this bypass, lol.

Yes, it's way different than the first surgery. Especially if you feel "forced" to do it because of e. g. reflux. The excitement of weight loss is completely missing when you're having surgery out of other reasons.

You just feel like like crap for a while and have to deal with the anxiety that the "new surgery" isn't as good as the one you had before. I'm still not convinced that the RNY is as good as the MGB when it comes to maintenance. So far I don't have any real reason to think so but there definitely is this nagging anxiety in some part of my brain I can't get rid of and that maybe will be present for some years. If it will ever go away, who knows.

I totally agree as I am having the same anxiety and I have stalled at the weight I was weighing in at last summer, which I am fine with but really ? I thought I would be able to get to 155-160 as an added buffer without starving myself ! I suppose we will see what happens over the next 6 weeks before I head back to the Dr. office.

@MIKEYY84 I’ve read all you me comments. My question is have you had a revision? I understand you have the bypass but did you ever have the sleeve first then the bypass? If not trust me it’s much different.

According to his profile he had the Bypass in Oct 2019 as his first surgery. No one can understand this revision stuff unless they have been through it. Wishing you all the best

I’m glad your eating 1000 calories and you don’t dump anymore, that’s great news.
I’m wondering why you have gerd. Bypass is supposed to heal that. I have a large hiatel hernia and it’s the only reason I’m having the bypass done. My surgeon said my chances of reflux or gerd is less than 5%. It’s worrisome to me that there’s a possibility I’ll still have gerd issues. I guess it’s a wait and see. Still waiting for my surgery date. I’m pretty sure it’ll be in July though.
    take care

Its weird because I didn't have any symptoms in the first couple of weeks if I remember correctly. It also could be a possibility that I was numb in there and just didn't feel it? I am starting to wonder if I have another hiatal hernia ? I go back Aug 10th and if I am still burning I am sure they will send me for a EGD.

Most people don't have issues after the bypass but there are a few of us out here. You will be part of the 95% that don't have issues !! I will be excited to hear when you get your date.
