Doing ok. Still on mostly liquids. It’ll be four weeks on the 18th. I’ve only lost 10 lbs since surgery which is not as I hoped but I’m sure it’ll pick up once I move around more. I’m still sore and I can’t move around more than 10 minutes. I get winded and get side pain. Praying I’m better before the wedding on 9-19. My gown is a size 20 and I’m hoping I’ll be in an 18 or less in a month...my tailor is standing by...he’s cheering for me too haha.

You are doing great losing 10 lbs . That is 100lbs in 10 months !! It goes by pretty fast too.

You still have a little over a month for the wedding . I am sure you will be feeling much better. ☺️

    Hello all,

I’m prepping for VSG in October. I weight currently about 296. I’m 31 and ‘4”. I’ve spent months dreaming and looking forward to this tool to help me once and for all. I’m worried I won’t be successful. And I’m worried I won’t be satisfied because my expectations are too high? Does anyone know what a realistic weight for me is? My surgeon didn’t really give me a straight answer.

    Thanks in advance!

I weighed 296 the day of surgery and 180.4 on my 1 year. The lowest I got with VSG was 164.8 . I stuck to the plan. Good luck to you.

im in the puree phase post op of gastric sleeve and the last two days ive been very concerned about what i eat and how i eat it. i eat every 1-2 hours or else i get SO HUNGRY. as well as i take big bites not small and i finish my meal in less than 30 minutes???

heres an example of what i had today

breakfast: frozen mango blended with lactose free milk which turned into icecream!

(after two hours) snack: apple juice

(after 3 hours) lunch: tuna blended with 3 spoons of greek yogurt and a Tomato

(after an hour) snack: Jello but a big amount

(after 30 mins) dinner: left over tuna with a big plate of Beans.

i wasnt even full after all that and i dont know what’s happening to me and caused me a mental breakdown, im afraid i ruined every pound ive lost the past 2 weeks and im panicking. thats just the beginning and im nearly starting a binging phase which terrifies me knowing it’ll get worse!!!!!!! i thought id be done with my eating disorder after i do the surgery but its still the same old depressing life....

Was the Jello sugar free ? I dont see anything wrong with what you ate. Drop the apple juice unless it is sugar free or a 5 calorie juice. I was eating around 700 calories post op VSG within a month. If you feel you are having true hunger it could be acid. I had an acid problem with VSG and it mimicked hunger pains. Hang in there you are doing fine.

I really need your help. I got a lapband in 2010. It was the greatest thing that ever happened to me, I lost 100 pounds and life was good. Then the acid reflux started. It was hell on earth. I woke up chocking in the middle of the night and spent several months sleeping in a chair. They finally had to take all of the Fluid out of my band and the reflux is better but not totally gone. I don't have to sleep in a chair now at least, but without the Fluid in my band and my gym closing (I was going 5-6 days a week) I've put on 40 pounds and I'm miserable. I had been on track to convert to a sleeve, but now I'm on here reading about people with the sleeve still having reflux problems. I can't go through that again so might consider a bypass instead but it terrifies me. I'm so afraid of the whole dumping syndrome thing and I like a glass of wine occasionally and I'm afraid I'll never be able to do that again. I would love to hear from all and any of you who have had a bypass and if you're happy about it or not. I'm beside myself trying make this decision and I would really appreciate any advice any of you can give me. Thank you so much in advance.

You dont want to mess with the sleeve if you already have had reflux issues. I converted to bypass 2 1/2 months ago and although I wasnt very happy the first 6 weeks I have come around and its not so bad. I do dump on Cereal or heavy carbs so I just dont eat that stuff especially in the mornings !!! I can drink alcohol and I dont dump on that. It really varies person to person. I know a woman who has never dumped with the bypass and she said she wish she did !! It is a good deterrent for sure.

....As I am with how slowly the weight is coming off? I have been discouraged, but now I’m just getting downright disgusted. I am 10 1/2 weeks postop and have only lost 30 pounds. No, I do not think that is a lot. My surgeon told me that he expected me to be down 100 pounds by Thanksgiving. That is never going to happen.

I have a coworker on weight watchers and she is losing weight faster than I am. I am doing everything right, so I know that is not the problem.

I really don’t want to hear the speeches about how losing slower is better. This is just too slow. 😟 I would just like to hear from the folks that are also losing weight slowly and how you kept it going.

At 10 weeks post op VSG I lost 30lbs. I wasnt too enthused either. I was watching people that had surgery after me passing me by and I was going by the book and it seemed so unfair !!!! Slow losing sucks when you are constantly comparing yourself to others and its so hard not to. I can totally relate to you.

I just kept plugging away day by day and I did reach my first goal of 180 at the first year mark. My starting weight was 311.2 1st day of liquid diet. I was 296 day of surgery and 180.4 on my 1st year surgery date.

Everyday went by so slowly it seemed but I knew this was my last chance and I had to do this. You can do it too !!! One day at a time !!

  6. I had the sleeve in 8/2017. I now have erosive esophagitis Grade D from the acid issues and revised to Bypass 2 months ago. I would say if you already have had acid issues then you dont want that sleeve. You can lose hair with VSG too and you are suppose to take Vitamins with both surgeries. I have not lost hair yet but I do dump on sugar and heavy carbs. I have been told that it doesnt mean I will always be a dumper. I can also have a sm amount of sugar after a meal and be just fine. I cant eat dry Cereal of any kind or biscuit and gravy in the mornings. We all are different though and technically are not suppose to be eating those things anyways. I am in maintenance and eat what I want as long as my body lets me, lol. Good luck.

1(+) year post op check in:

I was revised from VSG to RNY on July 15, 2019. My weight at the time of that surgery was 157 lbs. A finally was able to complete my 1 yr follow up visit with my team today. My current weight is 160 (really 159 but who cares 😂)

When my Surgeon brought up my weight got a little nervous. I immediately panicked a little hoping he was not disappointed that I gained a few lbs.

In fact, he was ecstatic. He reminded me that he did not want me to lose weight from the surgery, I was at my goal weight already and he purposefully made my bypass a length that would keep me relatively stable (sometimes I forget what the goal was while scale gazing) When I was in the 140s he wanted me to carefully watch out for too much loss. I fixed that problem 😂

Saying this to remind anyone who maybe going for a revision for further weight loss purposes to confirm the length of the bypass your Surgeon will perform. My bypass is 130, and my Surgeon usually starts Virgin bypass surgeries at 150 and I think that a relatively standard starting length.

All issues that existed with the VSG have been resolved and I haven't taken GERD meds in a year, HalleluYah ! Super happy with that outcome. Everything my Surgeon set out to correct was accomplished.

Good Luck everyone considering revisions ❤

Congrats on being GERD free and being happy .

I dont know what the length stuff means but I did ask my surgeon to make it so I would not have as many issues with Vitamin deficiencies . ( I am guessing that is what you are referring to) After surgery was completed at some point in the hospital he did let me know that he didnt bypass as much of the small intestines. I guess you have to have a longer limb or something like that? Have you had blood work to confirm everything is okay ? What Vitamins do you take? I have a friend who also had less intestines taken and she had issues with her bloodwork the 2nd time she went in.

whoooo..... hold up ..... I was no way looking down on anyone.... It was a question. Isn't that what this site is for.... Are is it to just nod and agree? Weight gain and reasons are a legitimate question. What does the fact that i'm a two-time WLS patient have to do with my question.....IN THE RANT AND RAVE SECTION..... very happy for both of my SX's. So what of it. If you didn't like my post.... KEEP ON Scrolling.... just like i do when i don't like something someone says.... no one is forcing you to say anything.... Been here since 2009 and i have never not once been forced to make a comment on anything i didn't want too.

If you had the 2nd surgery for weight loss then it has everything to do with your question, if in fact it was because of weight gain. At least that is what I am getting out of that response from the other person.

https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/back-pain/expert-answers/epidural-steroid-injections/faq-20058277 has some good info on why they space them out. I’ve had half a dozen give or take. They do little to help me personally so I’ve stopped. Tried medial branch block four times each side, same... two discectomies, the second one made it all worse. I feel your pain and hope you get some relief. It was one of the motivators that made me look at wls in the first place. I’m doing better 40lbs down so far, but would love to have a day without pain. Soon. I hope.

Thank you for the info. I greatly appreciate it. Congrats on the 40lb loss !

Well, I think in some aspects the metal thing comes into play. Living in a drastically changed environment so quickly can do a number on you. Anxiety, depression, boredom, etc. 24-access to both your fridge and your TV/couch, for those with small kids, the lack of non-kid time to do anything else, wariness of going outside for walks/runs, etc...

In my own personal experience, I gained 6 lbs around Feb-March. Reasons? It was probably a combination of laziness and boredom, as well as slacking on weighing and tracking food and exercising. Is it a coincidence that the weight gain coincided with the beginnings of COVID? Maybe, maybe not. I had to refocus and get back to my "regular" habits and with some dedicated effort, I got rid of those effing 6 lbs. For some, given whatever circumstances they find themselves in, it may be more difficult for them. Just like before WLS, people would question why did we gain so much weight? Why do you even need WLS? Can't you just diet and exercise?

    Same questioning, just different circumstances.

So for all those out there who are finding themselves with the COVID-19-lbs-weight-gain, try as best as you are able to get back to what you were doing when you were successfully losing weight. You did it before, you can totally do it again. Addressing a 10-20 lbs weight gain now is alot more manageable than 50 later.

Good Luck everyone, and stay safe ❤️

So true !! I also put on weight. From Feb to May 1st I gained 15 or 16 lbs. Then on May 1st I decided it was enough and went back to eating the way we are taught. About 2 weeks later I got the call that my revision to bypass was scheduled. In 3 weeks I lost 6 lbs and have taken the rest off since the bypass. It is much better to get on the horse with a 10 to 20 lb gain then that 50 lbs like you said.

  11. I really need some help and advice on what I can do. I have lumbar stenosis and have to get injections to be able to walk like normal people, otherwise I get stuck and cant move my left leg and have awful pain trying to do so. I also have bad neck that gives me horrible headaches which go on day and night sometimes and need injections for those. I truly cant handle all of this pain. I am so overwhelmed at the moment. I was told today by the bariatric team that if I must have them to space them out and stay on my Dexilant ( I dont know if I will ever be able to get off of it) Now I am scared. She didnt tell me what can happen by doing these injections. Any advice would be greatly appreciated .

FYI I was revised to Bypass 2 months ago and had been able to have the injections with the sleeve with no issues.

Having my revision on 8/3 from sleeve to bypass due to hernia. Can I loose weight my doctor says it as fast as the first one but wondering how much on the average. Also, are there any major differences in the recovery? I was pain free in the first one and walking the first day

I had awful pain but was also walking first day.

There are people that lose weight with 2nd surgery but I hear it is harder. I lost 12lbs first month and 2 lbs this 2nd month but all that did was put me back where I was last summer. I really dont think I will lose anymore but we will see. My revision was 5/22.
