I didn't know that Miralax could be used on a daily basis? I made an appt. with a gastro. What is a db dose?

There is a line on the cap that I didnt see so I always filled it to the top of the white line which would be a double dose. I was also told by my Dr. that it was okay to use everyday. I had been using colace 3x a day before the Miralax and having issues constantly. The Miralax has been a god send for sure.

Well times have changed. I went for the 6 month checkup on 2/23, and was told to start taking the same Vitamins, but with 45 mgs of Iron. Now I am severely constipated. I am in a lot of pain, and have hemorrhoids so bad that I can barely sit down. I purposely ate more sugar to see if it would make me dump, and it has not worked. I am so frustrated right now.

I use generic miralax in my coffee EVERY morning. I had horrible issues and finally got it straightened out after years of horrible pain. If I miss my morning dose I have problems. I dont miss !!! Try it for a week solid. It turns out I was giving myself a db dose and not realizing it for several months but I actually need it. It really works. I have been pain free since July except for the one time I forgot !!!

I had hemorrhoid surgery removal 3 years ago and it was the worst thing that has ever happened to me in my life and it solved nothing, they all came back, and the pain was barbaric. TORTURE of the worst kind.

I am close to 6 months out, and I dump all the time. I don't eat anything if the sugar is over 15g. I still dump. If I eat one bite too many, I dump. It seems like no matter what I do, I dump. It is ridiculous at this point, and very frustrating. I see my doctor on Tuesday for the 6 month follow up. I have so many ?'s

Same here but I would rather be a dumper then not. Dumping keeps me in check and considering I dont have restriction it is what keeps my weight stable. What did your Dr. say?

Thank you! You're the only person that I've heard from that gets it! I have 3 friends that have had gastric bypass and don't understand how I could possibly not have a bit of restriction.

Have you been losing the weight this time around without the restriction? I'm losing, but only because I haven't had a carb in 7 weeks! I'm worried about long term...

Eat the carbs in your potato, rice, and fruit. Unless your Dr. has told you otherwise. All plans are different and my plan didnt want me going full Keto.

    Hello all!

I had gastric sleeve back in 2013. The weight slowly started to creep back on. Then, due to a number of circumstances, it ALL came back. For years I was having terrible heartburn/reflux, so my insurance paid for me to have revision surgery to gastric bypass.

I had the surgery 6 weeks ago (Jan 11th). I have never felt any restriction at all! At first I though it was because it was all liquids or mushy food. But for the last 2 weeks I've been eating chicken, crab meat, hamburgers (no bun), etc., and have not had anything that didn't agree with me. I can eat way more than what my list calls for, too. I only stop because I'm not hungry, or I'm tired of chewing.

I'm so sad about this. I'm worried that I'm going to fail again. I know I have to be accountable to myself, but if I was good at that I wouldn't have needed surgery... I just had such high hopes that with this tool I would get it right this time.

Hi !! So sorry you are going through this and I know EXACTLY how you feel !!! I had so much anxiety and fear for months after this revision wondering how I was going to not gain without my restriction. I was pretty flipped out but here I am 9 months later and the smallest I have ever been. Its crazy not to feel anything and very stressful but there is this thing called dumping that will keep you in line and believe me you dont want to mess with it ! Also the malabsorption of calories is a real thing ! I lost 12lbs the first month and I was at my original goal weight of 180 day of revision. I only lost 14lbs after my original surgery and I weighed 296 that day !! I could and can eat more with this surgery then my VSG but if I over eat I get violently ill ! It really sucked after having the revision but I must say it is better then the sleeve and if someone told me 9 months ago or 6 months ago I would be saying this I would have said NEVER and NO WAY !! Here I sit with no problem staying under 160 where I struggled just to stay at 170s with VSG. Love to hear what you think later down the road. Good luck

Thanks for sharing all your information. I am scheduled for revision March 16. My original bypass was 11 years ago and will have my pouch made a smidge smaller and further distallize the common channel a little bit for a little malabsorption. I'm so ready!

My only concern is return to work after the revision surgery. I was off 3 weeks with the original. I teach high school and came back for finals week, so had relatively easy days and then another two weeks off for the holidays immediately following that week of work. This time I'm only planning for 2 weeks - pandemic and all has made this school year a whole disaster and don't want to be gone any longer than I must.

How long were you home for recovery? I didn't read all 17 pages of this thread yet - so maybe you mentioned that... but any advice you can offer is most appreciated!

Speaking for myself it was a harder surgery. Maybe wont be as bad for you since you already have had RNY and I also had a hiatal repair at same time. I looked at my journal and at 2 weeks out I wrote that I only had pain in my right side when coughing or laughing mostly. You will do great !!

  7. I am a dumper and I cant vomit. I dump on carbs, dairy, and sugar or combos of the 3. No biscuit and gravy, no Cereal, no ice cream. Things I dont need to eat anyway. I am a violent dumper too !!! It can go on for hours and its like having the worst stomach flu for me, but nothing will come back up. AWFUL. Overeating does the same thing. Guess that is why I dont have problems with trying to keep my weight down like I did with VSG.

I have a friend who is not a dumper and can eat good size portions and has had a good amount of weight gain. Be careful this is NOT a restrictive surgery for revisions. She said she waited 2 years to try no no foods and since she doesnt dump she eating like before surgery. Good luck

  8. I am 9 months post revision to RNY. Things are good and I like the RNY much better then I did the first several months. I am weighing in at 156 this morning. It is much easier for me to maintain this weight then it was for me to stay under 170 with VSG. CRAZY but its true !! I just keep waiting for the ball to drop like what is the catch? I also wonder if there is a honeymoon phase with a revision ?

No vomiting for me either. Made the mistake of overeating twice and will never do it again. I also dump from sugar substitutes like erythritol and most dairy/dairy substitutes. I've always had an issue with milk, but holy moly has it gotten exponentially worse. I've also had to take it super slow on a bunch of different foods and am just now adding more raw veggies/salads in (at 5 months out).

BUT, I still haven't had any GERD, which is the primary reason I had revision, and I've lost about 65 lbs since the week prior to revision, so I'm pretty happy with the results!

Congrats on your success that is great losing 65 lbs !! Glad you are GERD free too !

Dumping is horrible so its a lot easier to maintain weight with the RNY at this point for me.

I had my revision on Dec 14th. At first I thought it had definitely worked but the past few weeks the reflux is back with a vengeance. I’m at a loss as to why it’s still happening too. 🙄

So I had same experience. I thought I was cured the fist month or so and then bam !! I think we were so swollen from the surgeries. We didnt feel it until healed, at least that is what I feel happened with me.

What was your last EGD like before the revision?

I read where the roux limb may be too short in an article online, but I have no idea and none of it makes sense.

    Hey All,

Interesting thread. I have constant heartburn and had a VSG in 2016. If you had it to do over would you still get the RNY revision? I am wondering if its worth it if you get the heartburn anyway and are still constantly taking the PPI's?

I would still get the revision because I had erosive esophagitis D. It has gone down to an A, so I shouldnt have to worry about getting cancer. I take 60mg Dexilant everyday plus carafate

Hello its been 6 months and my acid reflux has improved greatly, I have not had an episode in over 2 months but I do still take one PPI daily. I was told by my surgeon that after this month I should be able to discontinue my PPI.

I already know I cant get off of mine at this point. I dont understand how I can be sitting up right but feel like I am on fire some days. What PPI do you take ?

Can this pain be on the top of the shoulder? I also had a hiatal hernia fixed with my sleeve on 2/1 and I have pain on the top of my shoulder like between the shoulder and neck. I am going for my first follow up today so I plan on asking my surgeon when I am there.

My pain was left shoulder blade area and neck, they told me it was either gas or referral pain when I was in the hospital. It took a good few weeks for it to stop completely.

  14. So it been almost 9 months since my revision to RNY from VSG. I had erosive esophagitis D and as of this past Dec it has gone down to an A. I still take Dexilant 60 mg and as I sit here typing I am on fire !!! Just wondering if anyone else is still going through this after being revised. I take the strongest PPI available that I am aware of but I shouldnt have to be on this PPI after the revision but here I am !

    Tracy,

My goal weight is 175. I gained a few pounds and I’m up to 206 from 199 which is so weird because I’m eating about 600 calories only a day. I think it must be Water so I’ll see what happens next week. I still get sick when I eat...I literally just got done dumping a few minutes ago...it was terrible!!!🤢 I ate a handful of pretzels (mini ones). ...never again! I can’t vomit so I just drool and pray for it to pass. My left lung is still at 60% and I’m still wobbly on my feet but I’m healing. Xo

Yes I am sure it is Water. I dump the same way and it is horrible. It usually takes about 2 hours to pass. I pretty much know what foods will trigger and episode or if I eat too much I will have one. AWFUL !!!!

Do you know what triggers a dumping episode for you or does it change. I would not dump on pretzels. I dump on sweets of pretty much any kind if I eat more then a few bites. Cereal is a big no no for me as well. It has something to do with the cereal/ milk combination . Yet I can eat oatmeal ??????? LOL

    Hi Tracy,

sorry to hear about the Gerd. Bypass is supposed to fix that so I’m concerned for you.
my Gerd is gone completely but I still get nauseous after I eat food...it’s better than it was a few months ago but still there. My weight loss is very slow. I’m 203 and started at 264 (bypass July 18 2020. One would think that after 3 months in and out of hospital (not bypass related), I would have lost much more, but it’s ok, I’m in no rush. I hope you’ll see your doctor regarding f the Gerd. The meds are not good for your pouch long term. Xo

I was at Dr. office yesterday and they say its not unheard of for some of us to still have GERD. Its just rare but if I dont take my PPI I burn just like before the bypass. I am still going to be scheduled for the bravo test. I cant wait for these non believing Drs to see my test results !!! That being said I have to stay on this medicine unless they can figure out why this is happening. I sit, stand , walk it doesnt matter I burn just like before just not all day.

I am so happy for you !! 61 pounds lost is great. Please tell me you are feeling better too !! What is your goal weight?

Hey, @Tracyringo I was sleeved on 9/11/18. Lost about 120 pounds then got pregnant and started suffering from serve reflux and lost restriction. I am scheduled for a revision to bypass on 3/29/21. I would love to talk to you about your experience with revision. I am now about 70 pounds heavier than my lowest weight and am dead set to make this a success. Any tips or words of wisdom?

Revisions are different for everyone. I had a lot of anxiety afterwards because of not having restriction like I had with the sleeve. It has taken me a long while to finally get use to it. Part of that anxiety was me thinking I would have problems with regain because of not having the restriction. I dump and get violently ill from eating wrong thing or too much food, so I am very careful now.

You will lose the weight just make sure you follow the plan like you did with VSG. I was at goal with my revision but I lost 12 lbs the first month. I weighed in on Dr scale yesterday at 157. I am down 23 lbs and holding.

I will say this. It is a lot easier for me to maintain my weight now then with the VSG and I stay 10 to 15 lbs lower then with VSG. Good luck and PM me anytime

  18. 8 months and 3 days post op. Weight holding steady between 158 and 162 for several months now.

I still have Gerd and am on same PPI before surgery.

No problems with foods as long as I stay away from the things that make me dump violently🤢. Also I have to be minded about the amount or I will get violently ill too.
