This is your second surgery it will be different if the sleeve didn't work you have to live with the bypass and get used to it as time goes on okay...

I had the bypass and it has been great for me don't feel hungry much and you learn how much your pouch will take to fill.

Yes but the sleeve did work for me, I was still at my original goal weight.

There is no real long term research on the sleeve because it is a fairly new procedure, but what I figured so far of what is, the sleeve tends to give a very limited weight loss over limited time (2-5 years) before the patients gains weight. All of this of course depends on the person and individual differences and the persons own effort in loosing and maintaining a weight loss.

Sleeve is restrictive, bypass is restrictive + malabsorbent for those wondering the difference.

I feel no restriction with this bypass nothing, notta. I miss my sleeve and I am so sad I couldn't keep it, crying as a matter of fact, and all this gas, I have **** myself twice today !!! I keep telling myself everything will be okay and its way early. I feel so alone and helpless . I ate a Chobani yogurt today I made myself go slow but ate the whole thing and felt NOTHING had that been my sleeve 5 days post op it would have only been a few bites and I would have been done.

  3. Today has been a decent day. I have taken one pain pill and have eaten a few oz of split pea Soup blended and a few oz of Premier Protein and beef broth. I am just sore for the most part and wear the binder when sleeping.

Somebody needs to fill me in on this intestinal gas thing !!! Really the first time it hit it hurt so bad I wasn't sure if something was wrong. Had to get to the store for gas x after finding some talk about it. Is this the rest of my life? or is this just something in the beginning of the bypass?

@Tracyringo Eating seems to be a bit more problematic atm. The MGB seems to be "more forgiving", so to say. But then again maybe I can't remember some issues I had during the first months after MGB.

When I eat too fast or too much or too heavy foods I get a stomach ache. Can be from mild to wanting-to-crawling-up-the-walls. I never had that with MGB. However, my stomach is quite a primadonna since years so please take this answer with a grain of salt. The worst are dense high-protein/fat combinations. It's almost a guarantee for at least mild issues and a brick like feeling in the stomach. These things are very individual though. It makes me remember what one of the dietitians said to a fellow patient: "I can't tell you what to eat or not to eat. You have to find out what foods you tolerate or not. I can recommend eating dairy and chicken but when dairy makes you feel queasy and chicken makes you vomit the advice is worth nothing in the end."

Regarding restriction: for me it's stronger than with the MGB right now but I guess in some months it will be about equal. Mind you, the revision was less than 3 months ago. Hunger signals are the same, they're very mild.

I was supposed to start on solids three weeks after surgery in stead of four weeks. I was quite glad I could progress to solids a week earlier but have to say progression was less easy this time. While I struggled through the liquid/puree phase this time I also don't think it would have been possible to start solids earlier than this. I had awful cravings this time for "normal" foods like tofu with rice, cucumbers, whatever... Some people suggested this was because I was already at a normal weight when I got revision so maybe you're going to experience something similar, no idea.

How much I can eat varies from meal to meal and that feels kind of frustrating. What's too much and causing issues one meal might be the right amount or even not enough the next time. In general foods with a high Water content (e. g. fruit, raw vegetables) I tolerate best and usually don't cause issues so cherry tomatoes berries and grapes are favorite snack foods right now. I don't eat meat so I can't answer only part of your question.

Strength and the like I'm hesitant to reply because I had not only the revision but also another little surgery regarding trocar hernia. The upper abdominal wall still feels strange when I exercise but in the end it was the fifth laparoscopy plus trocar hernia surgery, so I guess I simply have to be patient. I also feel quite stressed and exhausted these days because of work, lots of rather sh*tty 24 h shifts and on-call duties. I'm glad I'm going on vacation on Saturday for two weeks. After that I'm going to re-evaluate what might be surgery related and what might be stress related.

I can already tell I want to eat regular food even though I know it wouldn't work right now so I wait. You are right about that. I seen bacon in the fridge and was like geez here I go again, back to eating like a newborn. I know this will all pass but seriously I had just started 6 months ago to be able to eat a small meal.

It was odd for me. I had no problem with premier with sleeve. I could not tolerate them after bypass at all. It was like they were too fizzy ( if that makes sense) and made me very nauseous. Hopefully you will be able to tolerate them well.

You are correct to take things slow. 7 months out and I am still finding food that I can’t tolerate but did fine with before bypass. Nothing quite like getting that sick feeling after eating something that does not agree with you. The first 2-3 months were hard when it came to finding foods that I could tolerate. It does get easier though.

another odd thing was that I could feel the mesh. It didn’t hurt but I knew it was there.

I drank some premier and did fine. I also at 2 oz of Chobani and did fine with that. It is strange I don't feel anything but I suppose I wont until things heal up and I advance to solids.. It is messing with my head, lol

OMG im so dingy I just read you had bypass. Im so sorry. Did you know you wanted bypass or did the doctor recommend this?

I had the sleeve done and have erosive esophagitis grade D from the GERD. I was told I needed to do revise to by pass so I didn't get Barrets and cancer. Have you had WLS or is this going to be your first ?

I saw my PCP on Feb 7th 2017. She sent in the order so I could go through the process and I had surgery on August 9th 2017. So 6 months start to finish but it sure did seem longer at the time. I live in Springfield not sure how far you are from here but I would definitely recommend Dr. Edwards and his team.

  7. I am home, showered, and taking it easy. I am going to be on full liquids for 2 weeks. I am going to go slow as far as food and progression because I have read where quite a few by passers have problems with different stuff in the beginning. Hope that I can still drink premiere Protein Shakes and will be finding out within the hour.

Also I can already feel differences in the 2 surgeries. The sleeve had restriction from the start and I could not even drink but a few sips. This by pass is not like that at all I can drink with no problems. I just taking it slow though

Hope you feel better.. you got this!
I’m headed for the same, revision and surgery, this coming Wednesday.
I think they’re repairing my hernia. It’s umbilical. With mesh I think they said.
I have a high tolerance for pain so I’m hoping I’m okay with it this time around. Two C Sections and a gastric sleeve, few other surgeries along the way too, I’ve been okay.
I’m worried this time around ... between the virus and this liquid diet. I feel horrible today. I hope it’s nothing and why I feel so off today.

Congrats on your upcoming revision. Hope you breeze through it. I didn't have to do a liquid diet, but I did cut sugar out and any junk food the last 2 days. I pretty much just ate a lot of Protein the last 2 days before surgery. Sorry you not feeling well maybe its nerves ?

I'm sorry you're in so much pain! I never had a revision, but I have heard that they tend to be more painful then the original surgery... I hope the gas pain goes away so that you can at least get slightly more comfortable.

In some ways, after reading of so many people struggling with their pain after surgery I feel lucky to have a high pain tolerance due to my Trigeminal Neuralgia. I guess some good came out of my affliction...

I hope they can find a balance to your pain meds that helps! I wish you a speedy recovery!

That is the thing I also have high tolerance for pain. I have lumbar stenosis severe in left right l-5 and my neck. I do not take pain meds for this. When it gets real bad and I cant handle it I call the Doc and she gives me some hydro but I have only done that once and it was this year. I feel like if I could be at home I would feel better meditating ect and actually getting sleep. Tomorrow the sun comes out and I going home lol.

Hang in there! It will get better.

My first night after revision was awful as well because the pain management sucked (that's the difference between ICU and IMC I guess...). However, after the drain was out the next day, things got better at once.

My drain is still in and made a bloody mess on the gown and bed. Thank you for your words of encouragement. I am just lost on how to do this and they gave me Yoplait yogurt with 20 grams of sugar so I am confused

  11. Had the revision done at 7 30 am this morning weighing in at 180 my original goal weight. The first 12 hours were horrible. This was a very painful surgery for me and I don't know if it was because they also took the hernia I had. ( I believe they said they took it and not fixed it but I am still on the drugs. ) I have been given morphine to start with then they switched me to dillata because the morphine wasn't cutting it. I am back on liquid hydro now. I wasn't able to urinate either for the first several hours and I am still having a hard time with it. I have been crying through most of the day. Pain, anxiety and lack of sleep have been my companions as they are still not letting visitors in. I cant tell if I still have GERD . The gas pain has been in my neck and shoulders it sucks. I did 3 laps around the ward at 1 am to see if it would help because I thought I had read it helps with the gas. Well I will keep updating my progress here. Good night

I had surgery 3/5. I was on omeprozole and it didn’t do anything, I went back to Nexium and it was still there so now I am back to two Nexium a day. Just like before surgery. My surgeon says he’s perplexed, I’m the only one he has had where the reflux was not resolved. Very aggravating.

You are only in a few months and I would assume you still have quite a bit of swelling, maybe after all the swelling goes down so will the acid? I sure hope so because I am going in Friday for my revision and wont be happy at all if in 6 months I am no better. Would be nice if you could update when/if things change. Good luck

How much have you lost since surgery ?

I haven't found many edibles that do anything for me. I did have a Gummy last week that I did feel. However, the other day I made "banana" muffins and they don't do much for me.

A friend of mine made butter and I made Cookies and they were very potent, I was surprised. Hopefully our dispensaries will be open in July and we can get some good edibles.

I love smoking and I do love the smell too. Problem is, that at 75 yrs old, I’d like to save my lungs! last yr I had tiny nodes on my lungs but they were very small and didn’t get larger So if I try not to smoke too much. I have an addictive personality as most over weight people and tend to smoke every night. Besides the cost, the cough messes with my allergies. Haven’t tried the 𝐆𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐞𝐬 since it’s illegal in Florida but I have a medical card.

Why are gummies illegal in Florida if you have a med card? Have you tried a vape since you have problem with the flower ?

Ok, so here is a interesting anecdote. When I reached goal (127), i was constantly getting the comments that I was too gaunt/skinny/sickly looking. And I guess I even I thought that way to a certain extent.

Now I am 12lbs lighter than that weight and I look waaaaaaay better (both in my opinion and others).

I *think* that most people find that you start to fill out a bit (or the weight re-distributes, or something?) when weight loss phase is over. Another theory is that I added some carbs back into my diet after goal, and that contributed to "puffing" me up in my face and other areas to look me less gaunt.

    Now that is interesting.

  16. I know what ya mean about losing too low and looking sickly. When I hit 164 my mom said I needed to stop. My face was drawn in and the skin was worse too ! I would actually like to hit 160 and hold there. I figure it will take me 3 months to lose 25 lb.

I had already started struggling just to get a few pounds off and it sucks because a year ago I could do it without too much issue. So yes, I will be sticking to the 5 lb rule which worked very well for me until I decided to use covid as an excuse to gain 10 lbs !
