  1. Including pre-op, I am 10 weeks out, ~40#s down. I've never actually lost 40#s before, so this is pretty cool!
  2. Two months behind me now, and my energy is finally picking up.  So for folks just getting surgery, if you don't immediately get the energy surge that people talk about, be patient!

Yay girlie!!! I'm so happy for you! Congrats. Being pooped sucks!

@Orchids&Dragons I'm sorry to hear that. Do you think you are getting enough calories, vitamins and water? Of course, it could well be that your body needs a little more time to recover from surgery.

Thanks, Apple. Saw the doctor for my 12-week follow-up this week. Told him about nausea, weakness, dizziness and being unable to tolerate solid foods. After we talked, he ordered a big panel of blood work, a sleep study (because I bascially don't) and an upper GI. The upper GI was this morning and showed severe reflux. No surprise to me since I'm still on prescription-strength PPIs, 2x a day. I was afraid they might find a stricture, so at least it wasn't that. Calories I average around 700, which seems about average around here. I drink plenty of water but I'm on diuretics because my legs are so swollen, but my urine isn't dark, so I'm sure that's ok. I'll know about the vitamins when the bloodwork results come back. Sorry for the novel, but thanks for asking!

    Why am I hungry???

I only break my 4 meals/day routine occasionally, and that is to have a few nuts. So those days are 850 calorie days.
  4. My BMI was 38 at first consult, 36 on day of surgery. I did worry about losing weight during the 6-month period before surgery, but once I had insurance approval, I was all in. I don't believe your body will go too low. That seems pretty rare here on the message board.
  5. I like Nutrametrix Isotonix 'cause I can mix up one 8-ounce concoction in the AM and I don't have to think about it for the rest of the day. Surgeon says its fine to consume all of the calcium at once this way. I just restocked for 3 months -- $125, so it isn't cheap. A week ago, I got Bariatric Advantage vitamin and calcium capsules and tablets and tried that for a day -- damn thing got stuck and I was uncomfortable for over half an hour. Plus multi-dosing. Not for me.

    Built In Early Warning System!

    Sure enough, I will burp.

    Vegetarian

I don’t eat any processed stuff except premier protein with my coffee. I do eat 2% cottage cheese, but nothing else is lowfat. The postop diet is really very clean. SFH Pure is an more natural protein powder if you are looking for options. I used this pre-surgery, but then my tastes changed.

    Ideal weight by body measurements?

Google says $125 -- not cheap, but I know I'll do it when I get another 40# off.

    Liquid diet alternatives

39.2#s -- 12 in the 2-week pre-op, and the rest since then. I like banana. :-) I usually have 8 ounces with 8 ounces of iced coffee in the morning because it helps me meet my protein goal consistently.
  10. I remember being *thrilled* when I woke up after surgery. For some reason I was super worried that it wouldn't happen. :-)

    Body lift done!

You look fantastic -- congratulations!!! And 15#s, holy cow!

    Why am I hungry???

When I eat, I'm satisfied, but I also get hungry before my next planned "feeding" (LOL). Like you, I'm at 800 kcals per day.

    We need Fat Moderators

Yes, Jenn is certainly more than capable of managing her own affairs. I just called it like I saw it. As for crossing posts, isn't that what led to this thread in the first place -- a little tit-for-tat? Plus, I've been on this board since last August, and I don't recall that there even was an active moderator before, so why demand more mods?? This is my last post on this topic.

    We need Fat Moderators

Since there is only one moderator that I know of, your OP is thinly veiled criticism of her -- not cool.

    Liquid diet alternatives

Sorry about the bad trial with the shake. I suggest you try a few before giving up, because you'll be drinking them afterwards, too. Premier Protein is pretty popular around here -- I mix mine 50-50 with iced coffee, even now at 2 months out.

    Ideal weight by body measurements?

Maybe get a Dexa scan at local hospital?

    We need Fat Moderators

Whaaat? Creek, there's nothing wrong with the moderators, and we mostly self-monitor anyways.
  18. @MIZ60 Say yes to the cruise!! I am going on a 5-day cruise to Bermuda on Saturday, but I'm nervous about the food -- I didn't log or weigh my food yesterday, and it made me antsy as all get-out!

  20. Well this thread certainly struck a collective nerve! No big surprise -- this is, after all, a life changing experience for all of us. I agree generally that most people are technically doing their best, but "best" is highly subjective and variable. Why not celebrate people going balls to the wall? After all, it is indisputable that there is a window for losing weight.
  21. Woot! 100#s is freaking amazing!!! I will be here cheering you all the way down to 125, @FluffyChix, I know you can do it!
  22. Happy Mothers Day, my bariatric pals! What special things do you have planned? We celebrated early this year because tomorrow is reserved my FIl's 95th birthday. I made deconstructed Crab & Shrimp Louis -- an old classic salad that originated on the west coast -- for my parents for lunch today. It was great, and would be lovely for a ladies luncheon type of event (or for entertaining your almost 80 year old parents ). I tried two different dressing recipes hoping to find a favorite, but the reviews were split. A lot of prep, but worth it! Here's a pic after prep, but I served it on the patio. I had iced tea as planned. Now I am having a glass of chardonnay.

I fell off my wagon :/

I am so sorry to hear about your daughter's medical issues -- I'm sure you are beyond stressed! I would encourage you to not drop out now. You can always revisit your decision right up until scheduling. All the best to both of you.
  25. I'm curious to know who is consciously using intermittent fasting as a strategy and how is it working for you? My RD started us out this way, with 12 hour overnight fast. This week, I reincorporated protein shake coffee for my 6AM meal -- 8 ounces with 8 ounces of coffee, so that most of my nutrition is within an 8 hour window (16 hour fast). But maybe not, LOL, if the protein in the drink is triggering insulin release.
