  1. Thanks for the information!!! I've wrapped my head around the sleeve, so that's good to hear (well, to read).
  2. Hey guys and gals, I just learned I have a floating hiatal hernia. Will this diagnosis preclude sleeve surgery? The radiologist said that almost half of the bariatric pre-surgery patients he sees have this condition.

    Thin nails

I started Biotin already in prep for surgery in a few months.
  4. Great topic! Maybe a trip to Paris or something like that -- because I'll be able to WALK again!!
  5. Today is my first bariatric challenge: zero fat for the whole day to prep for radiology tests tomorrow morning (required for surgery). Just had a Oikos triple zero with strawberries -- yum!

Why zero fat? What kind of radiology tests?

Zero fat for 24 hours was prep for the abdominal sonogram, more specifically for gallbladder imaging. Overnight fasting was required prep for an upper GI series. I also had chest xrays.

      Good times!!!

So interesting. Never heard of that prep for the abdominal u/s/gallbladder imaging! Congrats on your tests and for getting them done in one fell swoop! Woot!

I was surprised to learn that my surgeon has us work with the physical therapy unit (both same hospital -- same building, even!) both pre- and post-surgery. Insurance covers it. Its a bummer about the skin, but are young and that should work in your favor :-)

    Might need another surgery.

Well that stinks. Sorry this happened on the heels of surgery. Its been in the back of my mind with all of the pretests: what if they find something wrong along the way??
  8. Someone recommended this book: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005CVV2AE/ref=oh_aui_d_detailpage_o02_?ie=UTF8&psc=1, which I found to be an interesting read. It makes a good case for fats.

    FINAL PCP APPT.

    God speed to you!
  10. Your posts are making me sad because my surgeon has us do 2 weeks protein shake/1 week clear/ 2 weeks protein shakes, then so on and so forth. The 1 week clear after surgery is actually my biggest worry. I've been dabbling in green protein smoothies for years because I like them (tho I hear that may change!).
  11. Mayo is super easy to make yourself -- oil, egg, mustard, salt, immersion blender. There are recipes all over the web because this is a Whole30/Paleo thing.

    Feeling lost

I'm sorry you are in pain still, and have doubts about the surgery -- this seems like a common issue on the boards. Did you have vertical sleeve or bypass with the GERD?

    this process is horrible

That must be pretty frustrating. At least the denial was just for a technicality instead of a medical reason. Let us know how the appeal turns out!

    this process is horrible

Did they say why it was denied?
  15. I have scheduled every required test: endoscopy, cardiac+stress test, psychological consult, radiology exams, lab work.  Sleep study is being scheduled by the surgeon's office.  Its a big lift!  I wonder how many people give up along the way?

Wow! I am speechless! But at least you are almost done and almost to the end and can see the light at the end of the tunnel! Good luck and I know that you will do well!

Sounds similar to all the tests I had - every time I had a day off I'd have 3-4 appointments a day- just to get them all done. But finally six months after I started I had the surgery and recovery has been great - I've only lost 16 pounds since 8/14 but I've replaced all my clothes and moved from a 26 to 18 so I'm not too upset.

  17. Today was my first appointment with Dr. Gandas @ AAMC.  I am fired up and ready to roll !!  I have to see a TON of doctors appointments to schedule tomorrow, and my goal is to knock them all out before my November appointment with my surgeon so his office can send my paperwork in for insurance approval and schedule surgery for late January.  Evidently, paperwork can go in before dietitian meetings are finished, but surgery date has to be after the last class meeting.  Surgeon seemed a little bored with the whole thing, LOL, we mainly talked about the work I do (energy policy). :-)

  18. Bummer, Fluffy. I am 1/3 way thru and I don't even know if I am expected to lose weight pre-surgery! My first dr appt is tomorrow.
  19. So should I expect tons of loose skin since I'm over 50 -- does this correlate with age? Tummy tucks, etc, look painful!
  20. Fluffy, at my seminar, they said if you go below BMI 35/40, you wont get approved. You've lost so much!! But you still are over 35. Slow down? Do it completely on your own? Only you know...
  21. For outpatient, just some comfy clothes and someone to fill the scripts before you hit home. I had foot reconstruction this way -- sawing through bones and worse. I picked sleeve surgeon because he has a 2 night policy. Never again....I also programmed my phone for pain meds for a few days. Editing to add, I subsequently had a complete hysterectomy and stayed only one night, successfully. Rested a at home a few days and had an unexpected house guest (my sister) -- her husband had heart attack local to me -- for 2 weeks. It was OK, but not restful, to say the least!
  22. I quit drinking in preparation after my first nutrition class, and now I immerse myself in binge watching all of the shows I never watched before. Watching Netflix "100" right now, "Last Kingdom" before that. Its very distracting to watch movies. I am an avid reader, but this works, too.
  23. Sounds like you have the same regime as me (in 4+ months!!!). Its a little tougher than what other are advised.
  24. Free on Amazon Prime, downloaded to my Kindle as my next read -- thanks for the recommendation.
