    RNY November 2017

So you decided to go for it ASAP instead of waiting until after the holidays -- good for you!!! OK, I'm jealous, haha, maybe my surgeon will move me up at my next appt. I'll be through all of the pre-quals.

    February 2018 Sleeve

Mine! 6 months. I started in August, so I'm late Jan/Feb timeframe, too.
  3. 1:1.618 is the golden ratio found in nature and design, so 62% to 38% is what I'm looking for
  4. This is a really good question -- I stand by my comment above, but I totally get waiting until after the holidays, mainly to shield my surgery from others.
  5. I would do it tomorrow if I could. I've had TG for quite a few years, but, still, tomorrow.
  6. xoxo, how are you doing? Did you have surgery already (forgive me if you have posted this somewhere else on the bariatricpal website).
  7. Taylor5, I hope you chose to stick with it. I agree that its a pretty exhaustive (and exhausting) pre-op checklist we go through. On the positive side, we have a good understanding of our baseline health going into surgery.

Always seeing myself the same fat girl

65 pounds in 10 weeks is AWESOME! I'm sorry you can't see the difference, because I can! I hope that changes for you soon. Are you doing measurements regularly, too?

    Bypass vs Sleeve

So far I am scheduled to be a sleever. But I since learned I have a hiatal hernia, am I am not sure how that will impact things. Fluffy, sorry to hear about the precancerous cells.

    Surgery didn’t work?

What Finnix said...and Hoping I didnt bully anyone...
  11. Very good advice -- I am a good example of someone who waited too long and is dealing with complications.
  12. I posted earlier that I was only telling husband and sons, but since told my mother. Big mistake. Don't follow in my footsteps!!!!
  13. Indeed! I have to add, losing the "filter" happens with dementia. You should raise THAT with her, lol.
  14. No filter whatsoever -- that is quite the reaction for you to deal with. And the question about the kids -- LOLOL, is she also denying your husband parental rights?? Ack, best wishes to you, you will be fine, and your life expectancy and quality will be better when you lose EBW.

    Sever chest pains

Ditto above, that is an unpleasant symptom to say the least!! A few years ago, I was SURE I was having a heart attack, but in the ER and subsequent cardio appt, was diagnosed wit -- as you predicted for yourself -- esophageal spasms.
  16. I've been thinking about what my surgery goals are.  Here's my list:

    1.  Neck circumference less than 14-inches, which is a threshold for sleep apnea.

    2.  Waist less than 32.5 inches, or half my height, which is threshold for heart health.

    3.  Weight down 50 pounds or more, which is what the two heavy-as-heck dumbells in my media room weigh.  This will be good for my hips, knees and feet.  This will put my weight to at least where my PCP wants me.

    Everything else is gravy.

Psych evaluation in 1.5 hours -- I'm a little nervous!

So glad you liked your guy and that it went well! I really enjoyed the guy I went to and talked to him about helping me in the future. He was very onboard with it. :) I used the computer to take all the tests. Yay!!

I like your list of goals...I keep telling myself "strong not skinny." But I should probably set up something more definitive!

  17. Fluffy, its just the average. Have you ever been average in your life? I didnt think so. Go out there and beat the odds!
  18. Following up on Waler's post, here's an "acceptable" goal for % fat: Men 18-25% Women 25-31% Article also suggests waist to hip ratio (<0.80) and waist to height ratio (waist = half of height) are also good for determining weight loss goals. https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/info/obesity/waist-to-hip-height.php
  19. I found it surfing around for projections for resolving co-morbidities -- the closer your BMI to healthy, the more co-morbidities are gone. I want to put sleep apnea behind me! Its geek-swoon-worthy, right?? :-)

  22. "The greatest benefit from surgery was among obesity-associated cancers. Postmenopausal breast cancer dropped by 42 percent. Endometrial cancer was down 50 percent. Colon cancer dropped 41 percent, and the risk for pancreatic cancer was lowered by 54 percent. Schauer explains the lower cancer risk is partially tied to estrogen levels. The weight loss surgery reduces a person's estrogen level. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/28938270 Be sure to bring this up when people question your choice for surgery!! :-)

    Constipation

I've added flax seed to my morning smoothies (emulsified in Vitamix) in the past and its great for promoting regularity -- is this something we can have post-surgery?

    Question regarding physiological appt?

whoops, I see this is a double post -- my bad!
