Side Effects of Gastric Sleeve Surgery?

    Have you tried Google?

    Urgent.. Help with BCBS

An entire year sounds like total overkill on behalf of the insurance company. I keep wondering, as sleeves become more commonplace, if insurance companies are gonna try to pull the brakes with tactics like really long waits, excessive preparation, etc. I'd like to add one piece of advice that was our first "homework" assignment at the intro seminar: contact your insurance company and get a copy of your bariatric policy.

On The Fence of Joining a Gym

Invest in good running shoes, some free weights, and unlock the power of the internet! And start now
  4. I gotta start this, too. Are you taking Biotin yet? I started daily Biotin about a month ago (3 months before surgery).
  5. I suggest scrolling through the monthly threads to about the 6+ months mark -- people always so happy at that point!
  6. My surgeon doesnt have that opinion, esp. if you have a hiatal hernia + GERD. Talk to your surgeon!

    Lost insurance

((hugs)) You know that sappy old saying: when one door closes another door opens? Well, its true, at least a lot of the time. Glad you were able to get health care coverage through your office, and that you have a job. Try not to let this derail your plans.
  8. OMG, Fluffy, that is terrible! Plus, I selfishly want you in my month, LOL. My surgeon has my surgery and post op visits scheduled out for me through September --- yeah more dr appointments (said no one ever). Here's my update. I am immersed in physical therapy sessions to strengthen my knees and hips, which is going surprisingly well! In Feb, I branch into specific sessions designed for bariatric patients until surgery. Two weeks after surgery, I am back to physical therapy for another 4 weeks. I am still waiting for my CPAP machine -- its been almost 3 months, and I'm still alive despite having severe sleep apnea. Very frustrating. Finally, I got my pre-op diet requirements and I get to eat real food -- hallelujah!!! 3 meals with 3-4 ounces of protein, veges and salad dressing, 1 snack, and 3 fruits and/or yogurts a day. Or I can have protein shakes as a substitute for any or all of these. Hope everyone is doing well!
  9. This seems to be an area (like the pre-op diet) where there are different approaches from practice to practice. Mine made it clear to me that if my BMI went below 35 before they filed that insurance wouldnt approve me.
  10. Welcome! Its been a loooong journey, amiright?

    Opinions to stop losing weight

Yes to this -- 5'5" is 114 to 144 pounds in healthy range. My PCP set my target weight to 150 -- that's low end overweight. WHY????

    What is missing please...

I was literally just checking out the Fitbit Ionic -- looks pretty nice!
  13. Hey, just dropping in on your thread (I am Mar '18), but I feel compelled to admit that I completely agree about an awesome boot :-)

What couldn't you be without now?

My practice says "no" on Tespo -- not enough evidence yet for them to approve it. Just one POV.

Does anyone watch This is Us?

I thought Kate did it for Toby -- 'cause he had surgery issues. I didn't think they handled it badly on the show, but its been a while since I saw it.
  16. Man, I love seeing February crew because then I know I'm getting closer!

4 Months and Down 80 pounds

Hey Walter, looking good! Even better -- you seem to be FEELING better!
  18. oh, I'd like to that I got a blue tooth scale for Christmas, which I kinda love.
  19. FWIW, I am over 50 and the weight does start to add health concerns over time. For me, its osteoarthritis in my knees and hips, severe sleep apnea, high BP, high CH. Add menopause, because it exacerbates weight gain. And I'm pre-pre-diabetic. So....consider going to a seminar and starting the process -- nobody says you have to have the surgery in the end, a fair number of people on this board drop out before they cross the finish line. As part of the process, my PCP and FOUR specialists think its a great idea for me. Best wishes to you!
  20. I gotta get one of those trays... Anybody dabbling with Sous Vide? I'm finding its a game changer for shrimp, fish, chicken breasts, Starbucks egg bites.

    Gastric Bypass and PCOS/Diabetes

That's amazing! I have a son with type1 -- he's 6'4", 220 lbs, always worried about his weight (and his hair -- he's 25 -- need I say more??). He's 50% me -- weight may be an issue in his future.

How Wild is Post-Op Grocery Shopping!

Sounds like when the kids move out -- we still overbuy stuff like lunchmeat and meats in general!!
  23. Hey all, what cool gifts did you get for Christmas to help with your post-surgery life? I got a 30 oz Yeti, blue tooth ear buds, and a blue tooth scale. I also got some cashola -- I think I'll buy Tespo with it.
  24. Hi Marchers, Whatcha got going on in preparation for surgery? I started PT yesterday -- 12 visits pre-scheduled before surgery to start getting into shape. It's part of my Center's "Bariatric Optimization Program", or BOP. Piggy-backed onto PT to strengthening my knees and hips. :-)
  25. What a great way to start your new year! :-)
