    9 days postop...

My nephew is a surgeon and told me it's so normal. Not only cuz of anesthesia, but also cuz of pain pills, the hormones from weight loss, AND he told me that just the process of a surgeon getting in and touching your guts/bowels can cause hormonal fluctuations that can cause the blues. His advice was/is: drink LOTS of fluids (water), move move (walk), and watch funny shows on tv, and rest whenever possible.

    Sleeve to RNY.

Good luck! ((hugs)) Not trying to talk you out of it, but just a thought. Why not try, I mean TRY like nobody's beeswax, to go back to your VSG post-surgery instructions: dense protein first, drink your water, take your vitamins, weigh/measure/log everything, and start walking daily until you build back up to 45minutes a day (oh and stay OFF the "secret sauce" = booze)? What have you got to lose except 100lbs or so? Then you might be surprised that your old surgery is still intact and working for you? Just spitballing here...

Sayin' prayers! Don't miss a dose of meds!
  9. Mine is 10% or 25.6lbs cuz was 256.0 at the 1st surgeon's appointment. She explained that the weight loss not only helps reduce surgical risk a little bit, but it also shows them a glimpse into our behavior. Can we moderate/modify our eating enough to stay on an actual eating plan once it's absolutely life or death important that we do--i.e. after surgery, while we're healing most especially.

    Green Smoothies & RNY?! Recipes??

This is one of my favorites: Blueberry Green Smoothie-162cals; 24g prot; 0g fat; 14g carbs; 10g fiber; 4g net carbs; 4g natural sugars 28g Isopure Bananas & Cream Protein Powder 1oz frozen blueberries 1.5oz frozen spinach 10g (1tbsp) whole psyllium husks-Now brand 12oz filtered water 4-5 cubes ice Variation: add 1 1/2oz ripe avocado for a creamier smoothie + fat (197cals; 24g prot; 3g fat; 16g carbs; 11g fiber; 5g net carbs; 4g naturally occurring sugars I will also do this one: PB&B Green Smoothie-184cals; 20g prot; 5g fat; 14g carbs; 9g fiber; 6g net carbs; 3g naturally occurring sugars 20g Isopure Bananas & Cream Protein Powder 6g Peanut Butter Slim Powdered Peanut Butter 1oz frozen blueberries 1.5oz frozen spinach 1oz ripe avocado 10g (1tbsp) whole psyllium husks-Now brand 12oz filtered water 4-5 cubes ice These are my two standbys at the moment cuz it makes about 20-22oz of fluid that's very filling and even though the carbs are high, the fiber in it makes them very slowly absorbed--at least for my bgs.

To eat daily, or not to eat...EGGS!

Are you asking me? If so, I don't know if this will translate to post-surgery life. I mostly try to get a lot of spinach, kale, and swiss chard. I then also sometimes have a protein smoothie that has frozen spinach, frozen blueberries, 5g of psyllium husks--or I will have Apple Spice (Celestial Seasonings) Ice Tea with 5g of psyllium husks. I also eat these in place of tortillas, but don't know how they would be for post WLS. Bang for the volume buck though, is hands down psyllium husks in ice tea (from my pov). Coconut Flour Psylli Wraps Ingredients Dry Ingredients 1 tablespoon whole psyllium husks (NOW brand) 1/2 tablespoon coconut flour 1 tablespoon oat fiber—or gluten free oat bran (Bob's Red Mill), or 2 1/2 Tbsp almond flour (Bob's Red Mill) 1/2 teaspoon gluten free aluminum free baking powder 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt 1 teaspoon granulated garlic 1/4 teaspoon onion powder Wet Ingredients 1 cup egg whites—or carton egg whites (All Whites or Egg Beaters) 1 teaspoon unfiltered apple cider vinegar Instructions Combine dry ingredients, stirring to mix well. Pour egg whites into dry ingredients. Stir with a spoon or small spatula until you have an even, lump free batter. Add unfiltered apple cider vinegar at the end. It helps it rise and adds flavor. Batter should be very pourable, like a thin crepe batter. Heat nonstick skillet over medium high heat. Spray pan with olive oil spray. Measure 3 Tbsp of batter at a time, into a small cup. Pour batter into the pan all at once. Swirl quickly to distribute batter like a round crepe. Cook until set on one side. Edges will begin to curl slightly. Flip and cook on the second side. Each tortilla takes about a minute to 90 seconds to fully cook. Cook, flipping back and forth until you see brown spots on each side and until the tortilla dries out like a tortilla. Cool on a clean dish towel. If the remaining tortilla batter has thickened too much by the time you make the 6th or 8th tortillas, thin it with more egg whites. (I used up to 1/4 more egg whites, because as the batter sits, it thickens.) Store cooled tortillas in an airtight container in the fridge up to a week, or freezer up to 1 month. Notes People ask if Psylli Wraps freeze well and sadly, we can’t answer that question, because they never last that long in our house. We think you will find these low carb wraps simple to make and tasty beyond belief! Serving Ideas Serve with your favorite filling. Notes: We really love these tortillas. Who wouldn't love them at 16 Cals per tortilla and only 0.7g Net Carbs per tortilla? We got 8-9 out of our recipe, but think we could have stretched it to 10. To eat daily, or not to eat...EGGS!

You will have to pry them from my cold dead hands (along with the REAL bacon). They are a terrific source of choline (great for brain and liver) as well as B vits and fat soluble vitamins (and don't forget things like zinc and selenium)! For me, if I started my day with oatmeal, I would be a hungry hungry hippo until bedtime. (But I do eat oat fiber in things without issue!)

  17. Oh. Mah. Gawd. I spewed coffee all over the keyboard and almost landed a double fontaine that even an East Germany judge would have given at least a 9.9 for degree of difficulty! Hi-LAR-ious!

    Anesthesia

I always wear my "happy toes" bright neon orange toenail polish. I ask them to play Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb at "11" just in case their amps go up to 11! And I tell 'em to hit the fentanyl and the grinning face of my surgeon and OR nurse are the last things I see as I go on the most AH-mayyyyzing ride into lalaland. Good luck and congrats!!!
  20. Exactly, hence the magic. There is no magic without a price. Right?
  21. Here you go...I don't want to eat an inter-esterified fatty acid (it's like the next generation of trans fats that food manufacturers are using to skirt the ban on trans fats and to be able to list food as trans fat free). Dr. Mary Enig, one of the most renown researchers on fat metabolism and author of Know Your Fats stated that she predicted inter-esterified (or super esterified) fatty acids would be even worse than trans fats for a leading contributor of heart disease.
  22. Holy incredible inspiration chickiepooh!!! Congrats! You look beautiful then and now, but now you look so happy.

I'm a newbie too. Welcome and excited for your decision to change your life! (Uggh, sorry, didn't see this was in the Men's Room. I just saw it in the Recent Topics area and wanted to wish you well!)
  24. Sonofabiscuiteater. So torked. So sad. I may have to wear an armband, cuz now I'm in mourning. Of course, the take away...is there ARE no quick and easy fixes in life. Evs. They ALWAYS come at a price. Didn't I learn anything from Once Upon A Time? Magic, ALWAYS comes with a price!

    Isopure Unflavored Protein

My question regarding the BP RTD, is what does the "non dairy creamer" have in it? My experience with non-dairy creamers are they that because of the "nature of the beast," they all have some kind of nasty fat in them? Maybe that's where the DATEM lives? I just double-checked the Premier Protein and sure enough, right in the middle of the ingredients is DATEM. Well, guess I will only do the Isopure powders and Syntrax Nectar powders (and yes I have to close my eyes about Acesulfame Sulfate and Sucralose).
