    Stuck

Damn, you better have your post op plan on board now and test it out for ability to process it now. You will be in a WORLD of hurt without those supplements. I can almost guarantee as a menstruating female, you will have iron infusions and other types of vitamin infusions in your future without that ability to assimilate supplements post surgery -- even VSG.

    EBW - Excess Body Weight

I just talked to the RD about this yesterday and the way she did it was "using the insurance tables formula" (which she said was old school and not accurate but is what they are required to use). For Females: 5' feet = 100lbs every inch over 5 feet = 5lbs So for a 5'4" female, Ideal Weight=120lbs. **** Surgical Weight - Ideal Weight=EBW (at surgery) (Surgical Weight - Ideal Weight) X 60% (RNY) = Estimated Weight Loss from Your RNY Surgery By her calculation at 60% I would end up at about 160lbs +/- 10%. I told her if that is where I end up, then she better get the rubber room and straight jacket ready for me, cuz things will not end pretty. LOL. I did not rearrange my guts for a 60lbs weight loss. LOL. ROFLMFAO!
  3. This was so great! Thanks for sharing it. I've read some of her stuff before and she has a captivating style and narrative! Thanks girl!

    Post Op snack suggestions!?

I agree with @Losebig. At first there really were no "post op snacks" cuz every eating event needed to be a mini meal to get my protein in for the day. And now, I have 3 meals + 3 organized snack meals (mini meals)--so I still don't snack outside those areas. It means I eat about every 3 to 3 1/2 hours. My 3 main meals are not big--still under 200 cals per meal.
  5. Dang! Personally I hope they just do the damn bypass and fix your hernia and get it over with for you sweetie!!! This has gone on too long. Don't fear a bypass. Awww who cares that you went away. School and life happen! But glad you're back now and are getting on the road to surgery. I'm sure the doc is just being cautious! But it still sucks to hear that and then to have to add that to the worry list! I've no doubts you will get it done and be dedicated once you start. I doubt seriously that 1 day will make much of a difference? And by the time surgery rolls around, you will be good to fly girl!!! And please! No fainting anywhere. Welcome back!

    February bypass buddies?

Yahoooo! Thank you for doing this Misty!!! ((hugs)) Sorry. I was at the doc's all day. Fork me! But hopefully my hip will have a new lease on life in about 5 days thanks to Mr. Cortisone--the shot I love to hate! WTG on losses everyone. Misty I had a slow last week too until the last day. But let's just tough it out and move onward through the fog. The good news is, thanks the weekly chart you showed us, I made one and am on schedule for a low week. Better times ahead my friend! And huge congrats on your Walmart shopping trip!!!! Come on capri weather!!! HW 287 (May 3 '17) SW 222.4 (Feb. 20) Last Week 196 Today 194.4 So down 1.6lbs since last week, 28lbs since surgery, 92.6lbs overall. All of my pants are swimming on me. Safety pins and I are on a first name basis! LOL. Even my leggings! I put a run in them with the safety pin this morning. *le sigh* I'm pretty stoked though, I bought Silver Skeeters tickets today! LOL. Being 55 (a senior) has its advantages. For $30 I get parking passes, a tshirt, a drink at each game, and seats in field boxes every Tuesday night plus opening day this Friday for 10 games. So $3 a game with free parking and a complimentary drink. Yeeeeeeee-the-helll-hawwww! I would have NEVER done this last year. The heat would have killed me and I wouldn't have fit in the seat, nor would I have been able to walk. This year, look out baby! Here I come. So I'm super excited for Friday night.
  11. Well, let me know if you're coming! We'll definitely figure out how to meet up! ((hugs)) And congrats on losing so much weight and on bony chests!

Welcome back girlie! I've missed you! Congrats on your surgery date and on starting liquids soon!!
  14. Yeeeeehaaawwwww!!!!! Congrats to you girlie!!!
  15. Yay on getting to the states!!! Too bad you won't be in Houston! Yes, bring an empty suitcase with you! Then load it up once you're here! I think the proof for us will be empiracle. You know? We will either maintain? Or, we will lose! If we don't lose, then we have to ask, is it worth going below a deck in order to lose the weight? I honestly can't answer that question for myself right now. But dang, losing 2.2lbs per week at your weight is so awesome! And outdoing your surgeon's rate of loss and predictions is even more awesome! Congrats!!!! What does he say about your cals being below 700/day? I think with your activity, that you will see yourself continuing to lose while being at a sustainable caloric level. But there are 2 schools of thought on this and that's where it gets so confusing when you're the one in the trenches. You know? I don't know which to believe or which will work for me. But I do know that being at 550cals was getting very old and I was hungry a lot. Since raising them to 700cals I'm not hungry at all and meal time is a satisfying experience. Yay! LOL, I know you're not saying I'm experiencing an eating disorder and engaging in an unhealthy obsession, right?

Dr. Atkins, pioneer of the ketogenic diet

Indeed. Not enough hour in my day to waste any more time on this ridiculous thread.

Dr. Atkins, pioneer of the ketogenic diet

"shi*ty diet" is YOUR opinion, NOT backed up with facts. Sorry. But TRUE! You're entitled to your own belief and view. But the debate over this is being fought by scientists in labs and in peer reviewed journals. A low carb diet it NOT a shi*ty diet. Is it perfect for everyone? Nope. Not even. But does it help ameliorate certain disease progression? Yes it does.

Sorry. This line has a typo and should read: "The DIETARY fat/cholesterol hypothesis of heart disease was disproved not too long ago."

Dr. Atkins, pioneer of the ketogenic diet

Sorry, I meant to say dietary fat/cholesterol theory of cvd has been disproved. I will try to go back and edit that because dietary is an important word. https://www.nutritioncoalition.us/saturated-fats-do-they-cause-heart-disease/ https://www.nhs.uk/news/heart-and-lungs/study-says-theres-no-link-between-cholesterol-and-heart-disease/ https://chriskresser.com/the-diet-heart-myth-cholesterol-and-saturated-fat-are-not-the-enemy/ https://chriskresser.com/the-diet-heart-myth-why-everyone-should-know-their-ldl-particle-number/ https://chriskresser.com/what-causes-elevated-ldl-particle-number/ I could site studies and articles by very well-respected doctors and researchers to debate this, but won't.

Dr. Atkins, pioneer of the ketogenic diet

and cardiomyopathy which started the ball rolling. It was caused by an infection over a decade before his death. Here's one for you. I had CLEAN arteries and normal heart and pretty perfect labs. Despite PCOS, I had managed to keep my pre-diabetes at the PRE level for over 10 years. Developed breast cancer. Had massive doses of chemo and left side radiation that gave a big dose to my breast bone. 5 years later I'm diagnosed with mild atherosclerotic plaques. Left atrial enlargement. Fluid around my heart. And a fibrous growth on my pericardium. So when I die are you gonna say that damned low carb Atkins diet she followed caused her heart problems? Or will you be more accurate and give the full HISTORICAL facts that in greater than 85% of women with left breast neoplasms who undergo chemotherapy and have left side chest radiation with mediastinal exposure suffer from CHF and CVD? Cuz it's the same analogy. The guy got a virus. His heart enlarged and was never the same after that. Our very healthy, thin, 40 year old friend got the same virus. He survived 9 years before he died waiting for a new heart. BTW, his BP was crazy bad too after his heart enlarged. He was btw, a vegetarian. John died less than 50 years old from heart failure. At the time of his death, he had plaques up the wazoo. But the reason for his CHF was cardiomyopathy, cardiomegaly brought about by viral infection.

The problem ISN'T different strokes for different folks. I highly endorse that premise -- there are many paths to a healthy diet. And I could give a flip about what diet you choose to follow. Live and let live. More power to you. I will follow my own path. The problem arises when you post outrageous headlines hoping to get a rise out of people. You generally succeed. By perpetuating a nasty, unfounded rumor, you've maligned someone who had a very important contribution to nutrition and healthy eating and I didn't feel like giving it a pass without a rebuttal with the ACTUAL facts.

Dr. Atkins, pioneer of the ketogenic diet

I didn't say he died of a heart attack. I said he had a heart attack that damaged his heart. The attack was caused by endocarditis. He died from slipping on ice and had a blood clot. People in comas often suffer edema build up. Their skin weeps. I've seen it and dealt with patients with this problem. It was NOT unusual for them to gain more than >50lbs. No, she didn't want unscrupulous people attacking his life work. There are so many supportive research and so many doctors who continue this work. You know nothing about what you are accusing. You do not have the facts. Dr. Stephen Finney Dr. Jeff Volek Dr. Mike Eades Dr. Eric Westman Dr. Tim Noakes Dr. Dominic D'Agostino Dr. Richard Feinman Dr. William Davis Dr. Perlmutter https://www.mensjournal.com/food-drink/truth-behind-worlds-most-cutting-edge-fat-burning-performance-meal-plan-keto/ http://bjsm.bmj.com/content/early/2017/03/31/bjsports-2016-097285 I could list other sources for the fail of fat causing heart disease, this is just the first one that came up. But there are MANY more! These are all medical physicians who've authored countless papers and studies in peer reviewed journals--respected physicians who all have helped prove that ketogenic diets ARE beneficial when done correctly. The fat/cholesterol hypothesis of heart disease was disproved not too long ago.

Dr. Atkins, pioneer of the ketogenic diet

https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/death-of-a-diet-doctor/ BTW, at no time did Dr. Atkins advocate an "all you can eat protein gluttony" style of diet. His diets advocated only EVER for: PROTEIN ADEQUATE Stop eating the moment you feel a cessation in the drive toward hunger--NOT until full. But we are avaricious greedy people. And we take things to extremes. If someone says, "Have a little," we all take a lot. And it's all or nothing black or white. So we are the ones who bastardized his recommendations and made it a protein gorge, fat gorge diet. He had heart disease and a heart attack in 2006 due to endocarditis. I remember when it happened. He also weighed 195lbs the day he slipped on ice, hit his head, suffered a brain bleed and lapsed into coma. He gained 60lbs of fluid in the hospital. I've seen this happen all the time to patients. All the time. To whip this up and spread falsehoods about a very real nutritional pioneer is really beyond the pale.

    Some new found courage

Yay!!! So glad you're reclaiming your life! Do what you love!
  25. My Daily Plate - 9 Weeks - Breakfast Here's another glimpse of my daily plate! I'm so happy to have my Brancrisps back. LOL. Happy feet. So it's another brekky with them. Super simple. I made peanut butter from Peanut Butter Slim powder. Super low cals and high protein, moderate carbs. And had a peanut butter cheese cracker. I love cayenne sprinkled over it! And am also having GS apple! Happy about this addition too! I'm a total omnivore and love my meat and seafood, but it does feel less restrictive to have more non-meat options for protein. Peanut Butter Bran Crispbread with Granny Smith Apple Serves 1 2tbsp Peanut Butter Slim powdered pb (Vitacost) 2tbsp water .5oz cheddar (Tillamook) 1 GG Bran Crispbread cayenne to taste 1.5oz GS apple Mix peanut butter powder and water into a smooth paste. Refrigerate for 30 minutes or make it the night or meal before. Make cracker and eat with the apple. Yum. Filling and easy.
