    Weight-loss funnies

Guaranteed. Every Texan will have this thought at least once (every 60 seconds on Tuesdays)...
  2. To quote @GreenTealael: "Yasssssssss!!!!" This is a very well-thought and awesome response. TY! Cuz it really makes it clear for everyone who even stumbles into this thread. It's exactly that...regardless of motivation or even initial motivation...it's not like the "possible health benes" are with held from you if you have a motivation of "weight loss only." Even if you do it "wrong" by some person's definition...I don't think the benes are withheld. JMO. IF is too fluid.
  3. Ok, so yesterday was more of an UP day without much IF about a 16:8 TRE. Today I'm going to try for a 16:8 or 18:6. No promises though. I'll just do what I can and go as far as I can. I am gonna do a 500 VCLD Down Day today though. Who's IFing today? Let's be IF buds!!

    Pre-OP advice !

Adjust your mindset to a "Take No Prisoners" attitude and that you are gonna hit this thing out of the park!!!! Sure, there are tough moments/times--but they pass. Sure there may be pain...but if you adopt a take charge attitude and "geterdone" the time passes lightening fast and you heal better and quicker with fewer problems! Also, the more hydrated you are with pure water (no crap in it), the easier your protein drinks will go down and the easier it will be to advance your diet. Stay hydrated!!! Get that walking in!!!!

August 7th my surgery day is here!

Hugs and congrats. Remember, there's no crying in baseball. So come out with the mindset that you're in the game and gonna rip it outta the park. There will be tough times, but remember--these times pass and you will have great times again (or maybe for the first time in your life!!)
  6. Yes!!!! A thousand times!! I'm noticing this too! I'm ready to eat now. (Granted, I do wake up at 4:00am to take meds and am up and running by 5:15-5:20am, so I start the day early.) But since I've been eating super late at night, I'm a hungry, hungry, hippo by 8-9am!! So I really have to die to my hunger a lot if I want to make a 16:8 or 18:6 TRE! Gah! LOL. So any secrets to squelch eating late? And quitting snacking at night?

    Reboot?

I first read it when I was still pre-op and it was like, "Hello, future self? You need to save this to your archives, cuz you will need to take this advice more than once in your life when times get rough!!!" She's very wise!
  8. 5"4" πŸ‘΅ 17m PO (WLM) 135.4lbs (pre-poopy)=lol knew it would go back up again. LOL. I'd intended to do an 18:6 IF with 500 cal VLCD, but just couldn't do it. Interestingly someone posted an article about the use of antibiotics and weight gain/increased hunger. And with this surgery last month for my twisted gut, I had massive amounts of IV antibiotics. I'm back to my pre-surg weight and the scale isn't budging. And I'm incredibly hungry every day. And I'm letting that hunger dictate horrible choices that just fuel more hunger (hello roasted potatoes I'm talking about YOU there! Gah. LOL. Crazy much?) This would be considered an "UP" day for me, but not a feast day. Feast days are on weekends (usually a Saturday) and are more likely 1200-1400 cals.

    Reboot?

Yep what @336Mike said! Go back to the precepts of your forever post surgery diet. Max 1 cup food per meal. 3 meals per day (and in the early days you can do 1-2 small protein snacks). I stole this from a poster on another site because it's just awesome advice!!!!

    Dumping question

There are 2 big myths of WLS: 1. Dumping--people have these surgeries hoping for that negative feedback for their addictions. But if you don't change your head, nothing will change. You will still cheat with sugar. Whether or not your get sick. You will find a way to have your addiction. You can NOT depend on a TOOL to do the work if you use it the wrong way. And the real truth is that only 30% of RNY patients experiencing dumping and substantially fewer VSG peeps (maybe 3-5%?). And that dumping goes away sometimes the longer you are post surgery. 2. Restriction & Malabsorption--people believe their restriction and/or malabsorption will last for life and that they can eat anything they want cuz their "tool" will protect them and magically make them observe a moderate behavior. But moderate behavior begins with a choice in the brain and if you don't change your head, nothing in your behavior will change. People eat around their tool every day. I could eat an entire huge order of etouffee from Pappadeaux's if I ate a few bites every 10-15 minutes. I'd probably finish it within an hour! And I would have had 2 -3 days of calories in one meal. I could have a bite of Crispy Creme donut every 15-30 minutes and at the end of the day have eating 4-5 of them. I would not have dumped and I'd be craptastically full of sugar, carbs, and fat. I would have absorbed a ton of the cals. See where I'm going? In addition, both your restriction and malabsorption lessens the further out you are from the surgery. WLS only ever was intended to give people a brief honeymoon period where they could lose substantial amounts of weight and potentially reset their metabolic health so that they could then go on to learn new healthy habits for living and behaving with food/learn proper nutrition practices and live a healthy thin life the rest of their lives. Do your head work and let your tool do the job it's supposed to do. You are responsible for using your tool correctly. Don't bring a hammer to a screwdriver fight. Use your tool the way it's intended and it will serve you well--for life.

    4 weeks post op

((hugs)) Now quit watching My 600lb Life. LOL. Totes UNREALISTIC. Normal weight loss is between 2-4lbs per week. So you are on the upper edge of normal. Congrats! Keep doing what you're doing. Aim for between 60-80g of protein per day. You need some days of higher protein here and there especially in the early days of healing.

    Gastric bypass

Go to the ER when it's the worse. I assume after eating nothing comes out and you feel great pains? You want them to do an emergency CT scan with contrast to see if you have a leak, or abscess, or if you have a partial bowel obstruction. I'm sorry for your struggles. I've just been through something like that this past month and it's harrowing. Grey face, indeed. ((hugs)) Hang in there. It does get better!!!
  13. Yeah. I called him out on it. I stopped short of talking about his cognitive dissonance with his own health. Cuz that's not my worry...

    Pre-op struggles

There are many who do 2 weeks liquid preop liver shrinking diet. I did it. Then had 2 weeks of liquids post op. It’s so HAR! But it’s a right of passage and only a brief window of time. Bonus is this is the time you will see some of your biggest lossesβ€”provided you play by the rules and don’t cheat.

    "New injection mimics gastric bypass"???

So I think it's tricky. All hormone systems have a sympathetic and parasympathetic "antidote" to it meaning they don't ever exist unopposed. And they relate to each other and to cells through a negative feedback loop. And if for some reason, have too much of one, then the cell is capable of shutting down all receptor sites for that hormone in order to regulate things. Cuz the body likes homeostasis. So I would think that it would react like insulin in that the cells would become resistanct to PP1 etc. Which would be very bad cuz it could potentially break our satiety system even more. An example of this is leptin resistance and MO. We have SCADS of leptin in our system. But our receptors are shut down (leptin-resistant) and so we eat and eat and eat and eat and eat. Then our lips fall off. So I think it will be very interesting to watch...

    "New injection mimics gastric bypass"???

T/J @Alex Brecher How ya feelin', Alex? ((hugs))
  20. No. But I like doing it all at once at the beginning of the week. So typically I do M-T-W of some kind of fast. But saying that, I still eat very low cals during the week. Otherwise I gain. But since this surgery I've really been trying to go back to super low cals for losing cuz I'm not losing. To lose I have to be <850cals per day. In the range of 600-850. I'm on a pretty big time hormone disruptor for cancer so it puts me in super menopause + hypothyroid. So it's so tough trying to lose weight without the benefit of good healthy hormones.
  21. I was trying to do a calorie restricted day of 500cals like in my ADF program. But it was close. I just don't like that I ate 303 cals right at bedtime. LOL. And it was my largest freaking meal. And high reward. So there were many things "wrong" with the snack, but in the land of snacks, it could have been much worse. You know?
