Oh mah gosh! You are SO close. This is getting super exciting!!! Can't wait for you to come back here an report how you're doing. Saying prayers sweetie!!! You got this. Good for you for staying the course, sticking the landing, and not cheating!!!
  2. So, no judgement here--just an observation--cuz maybe you haven't thought about this yet...In the early days of research I was like you...dayum! Am I gonna have to break up with mah food? Cuz, you know, I'm not jiggy with that! And now, because I've had a Vulcan mind-meld or shift in the tectonic plates or something, I'm like, "DAYUM!!! I can't WAIT to be satisfied eating tiny portions and btw, I hope that lasts forevs!!!! Cuz, think of the food savings! Right? Think of the decrease in metabolic disease cuz of natural calorie restriction. One thing I look at is I watch skinny peeps eat. Most of the ones I know, eat very "thin-like"-- super healthy, small portions, small servings of carby shenanigans...and I'm like. I WANT that!!! I want to eat like them. So, maybe along with your research, maybe you will consider beginning shifting your relationship with food. Will you still find joy and pleasure in a good meal? Sure! Why not!? Life is made for happiness in all areas. You just won't and shouldn't super-size it any longer!
  3. OK, despite the ongoing ravenous hunger from PT, I'm staying the course and am now officially down a few more tenths of a pound to 230.4lbs (nekkidy/poop and pee free) this morning. I'm continuing to ask myself every time I get a hunger cue at inappropriate times, "Why am I eating?" So far, it's stopped me from major jungle fever interaction with mah food! I sit down at the table for dinner and the other meals I'm either working at my computer or else I'm working at monkey business at my computer chatting with you guys in the forum...not ideal. I should ideally be focused solely on eating and sitting at the table. I think doing a pre-workout lunch and a post-workout lunch maybe help with the hungry, hungry hippo problem I've been having as a result of the added exercise and added hunger. Question: Do you eat at your table? Do you eat slowly-savoring and chewing each small bite as directed by your doc? Do you put your hand and fork down between bites? I just read an article that suggests perhaps that people who eat faster are more prone to metabolic syndrome. So HOW do you eat? Eating faster linked to metabolic syndrome article Study about eating speed and metabolic disease rates-yes, it's only an association study and association cannot prove causation... Friday Menu - B-Turkey sausage scramble-1 lg egg, 50g Real Egg Whites; 28g JD Turkey sausage crumbles; .88g BH lacy Swiss cheese; 2oz froz chopped spinach; 2oz baby super greens; 2oz mushrooms, 1/2tbsp evoo; TB mild sauce MS-None-too full L-1 turkey roll-up (Pre-PT=1oz BH smoked turkey; 1.15oz BH lacy Swiss); (Post-PT=1oz string cheese, 2oz GS apple; 6g toasted almonds) AS-2oz GS apple; 24g LS creamy peanut butter D-5oz (raw wt) grilled ribeye; 7oz (raw wt) broccoli with garlic and 1/2tbsp evoo; 1.5oz avo + 1oz grape tomatoes BS-14g toasted almonds; 6g SF Lily's dark choco chips Daily Totals: 1499 cals; 100g fat; 85g protein (still too high); 62g carbs; 22g fiber; 40g net carbs
  4. Well, if we self-erase (which we can't, cuz we can no longer edit after 1 hour I think), then we won't have food ideas to go back and look up when we need them? But, yes, as sad as it is, it doesn't appear that there are many who want to do a daily menu thread. But there are some...lol. So until I get bored with it, I may just amuse myself and post my daily menu in this thread through November, then start one for December. Cuz you know, I'm ornery that way. Andrew Meany and passive resistance and all, "Thank you sir, I prefer not." hahahaha

    RNY November 2017

Congrats to all of the post-surg patients!!! Hang in there to all the pre-op liquid dieters (oh you KNOW who you are hahahaha)!! The end is near and you will be on the other side soon! Happy Saturday in general!! I'm still hangin' in there and haunting you guys even though I'm not in the surgery cue any longer. My PCP and oncologist did write letters and sent their treatment/visit notes and the surgeon will resubmit on Monday. We honestly don't hold out hope, even though I can prove 6months of continual weight loss care by a physician. I think it's honestly gonna be end of Feb. or March before I get to have surgery. But I'm staying on plan and staying busy and letting go and letting God! Serenity NOWWWWWWWW!!!!!!! DAMMIT! NOW I say! We're gonna start putting the Christmas tree up, since I will not be able to right after Thanksgiving, but we won't light any lights until after TG! Does that count or am I still a schmoe for doing it early?

    Desperate- need Thanksgiving Dessert

Ok, so I would go to a low carb master blogger for this! Carolyn of All Day I Dream About Food; Mellissa at I Breathe I'm Hungry; and Maria at Mind Body Health are 3 awesome cooks! Most of them use "more natural" sources of SF items, especially Maria Emmerich. But erythritol is a naturally occurring sugar alcohol that most people do not have sensitivity. They also use things like Lo Han and stevia. You should check them out. More importantly, their dessert recipes actually work!

    Isopure unflavored protein tips

I add the Isopure Unflavored to homemade chicken and beef broth, then stir in a spoon of cream of chicken, cream of mushroom, or other creamy soup. I also stir it into spicy V-8, then heat the V-8 and add a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese or brewer's nutritional yeast to taste like tomato soup. I also use it to make protein pancakes (but you probably can't have that yet). This is my favorite smoothie. You can probably handle it now, but check with your doc: 1 scoop Isopure protein powder 1/2 tsp extract (love banana) 1oz frozen blueberries 1oz frozen spinach 3g benefiber for fiber 12fl oz water, or unsweetened vanilla coconut milk, etc 4 cubes ice Blend to smithereens and add ice cubes, then blend until smooth.
  8. Hey guys, after a near food-derailment, I was reacquainted with a real tool for success that I'd filed in the back of my mind!!! It's SOOO much harder to cheat or to plan or even think about cheating when you have a very full belly! HALT before you cheat!!!! Never let yourself get too Hungry, Angry, Lonely, or Tired--especially with the holidays coming up. Holiday season, loneliness and depression are a reality for many of us. Please remember to make sure to treat yourself with love and care this season!!!?? What are your strategies for maintaining healthy food relationships this year? P.S. I just wanted to add, for me, the best thing to ward off loneliness during the holidays was to quit thinking about myself and my situation and to get busy serving others. Not meaning to be preachy, but it was amazing how good it felt to go volunteer to serve Thanksgiving dinner to the homeless, or to go to the old folks home and visit with rando old peeps. Plus, you meet a lot of people to get you out of your aloneness--even if it's for a couple of hours. It feels like your heart grows 3 sizes, just like the Grinch's!

Affordable Care Act in Illinois 2018

@Sosewsue61 ((hugs)) I'm so sorry you're now dealing with another surgery and complication of your eyes!!! Gosh wish I could help, but I will pray so much! Insurance stuff SUCKS!!!! Hugely!!! I'm sorry you have to travel so far to an in-plan doc. But you should perhaps try to get an out of network doc close to you on the grounds of medical necessity. With your vision impared, that should be do-able. It will just take referrals from your GP and paperwork to prove the medical necessity. Still doesn't keep the situation from suckage level though! On the positive side of things, I can only believe the hemorrhages will improve with further weight loss and stabilization of blood pressure. (At least, that's what I'm praying!) And that there are no lasting vision deficits as a result of this latest leak. Take care of yourself and rest!!! We'll leave the light on for you when you're healed and ready to come back and play!
  10. I hope it will give people inspiration (not me, cuz you know, I'm pre-surgery), but I know afterward, I will go back and re-read all the posts. So hopefully it will help each of us stay on track, but also help others!
  11. No, I should have named this differently. If we start new threads each week, the threads will quickly overrun the "Recent Posts" area to the right of the screen. I would hate for that to happen. So I suggest just keeping this thread through the end of November and beginning a December Menu thread. Will that work for everyone?
  12. Someone posted a study not too long ago that shows reduction in inflammatory markers reduces breast cancer recurrence. Does anyone remember who posted it? (Maybe about a month ago.) @Berry78 wasn't it you who posted about it? I'm trying to find the study for my oncologist. Thank you! Fluffy
  13. Ok, y'all I found these and wanted to share them. You probably already know about them, but they look like one more "necessity" I will need to find a place for in my tiny kitchen. I added them to my Christmas wish list. LOL! *snort* Good times! These are glass divided bowls with covers. These are 2.5oz silicone storage wells to freeze small portions and they have lids! (These aren't "my" links btw, just normal links to Amazon products.)
  14. Hi there! I'm bullish on resource lists! (Yeah, that's me--Imafreak.) So can we play a new game today? Let's list all the convenience foods that can make cooking easier for us--easier to get a semi-homemade meal on the table. Here's the criteria--the food must have less than 4g of sugar MAX per serving. It must be low carb. It must be low calorie. Try not to repeat the posts before yours. Ok, go!

    Anyone Watching This Is Us?

My sister has been trying to get me to tune into this show for a year now. Anyone watching this show? I'm only on Season 1 Episode 4--but right now, it makes me very uncomfortable to watch it. I can so relate to the character, Kate...and watching her storyline, really brings things home for me. I also kinda picture my sissy watching the show and thinking that Kate reminds her of me. Anyone else experience this?
  16. @Subaru Hi you should totally jump in and try to start working on good food habits. Congrats on having approval and tentative date!
  17. Am I the only one wanting the daily menu thread? I know I named it wrong. I shoulda just named it November 2017 Daily Menu Thread--since there aren't that many of us posting our foods. Let me know and if I'm the only one, I will stop posting. 11.16.17 Thursday Menu (Starving all day again. Been doing PT for the 2nd week and hunger has dramatically increased. Had 6 year survivorversary with 2glasses of wine + part of an appetizer.) My fiber intake sucked today!)

    Body measurements

I was making myself cra cra (short trip) with the measuring. So now I only do 2: waist and hip measurements. That way, I can easily get a waist/hip ratio if need be. I don't track boobs (chest), cuz of the double mast and implants. They lipo'd the hell out of my back and side boobs, so I'm basically Skeletor up top + the foobs, a fairly static measurement, but that might be a great area to track for most people.

    Old habits creeping back

To me, this is one of the most important steps and tools! Religiously logging food BEFORE you eat it, is better because: 1. You still have time to change what's going in your mouth if it has too much of "something" even portion size. 2. You have actual data rather than the fallacy of "remembering" what you ate. It's easy to "forget" you had 3 tbsp of Hellmann's mayo on that turkey swiss low carb wrap. Right?

    Old habits creeping back

((hugs)) Food addictions are tough to manage. It is a life-long process and like alcoholism, there are backslides. It sounds like you need a new tune-up and maybe need to use this time to really focus on developing the strength of your good habits. If it were me, I'd get a therapist asap and then go back to basics: no eating or drinking with meals, dense protein first, then veg, then fruit. I might even go to the RD for post-surg follow-up and for her to help formulate an eating plan since you are body building. I will tell you, I'm in PT three days a week, doing baby work with bands and stuff. I have come home for the past week (this is week 2) and am absolutely famished every afternoon. Like I was before starting my pre-surg diet. So I know (and I have always suspected this) that I am one of the people for whom strength building exercises increases my hunger. The time to address this is now. Hiding/sneaking food is bad. You know this. It's a symptom of the disease. So go kick it's ass dude! Maybe even look into OA or Greysheeters. Hang in there. It is not hopeless.
  21. @James Marusek Thank you James. Those are terrifying statistics. But it wasn't the one. In checking, I think it's this one from @Apple203 that started me researching the effects of RNY of breast cancer. Here's the link to the thread.

40% of Cancers Linked to Obesity

Thank you James. That wasn't it--but that's a horrifying statistic isn't it? This was an actual study that just came out recently? It showed that bariatric surgery (independent of weight loss) caused a reduction in breast cancer recurrence rates? Gosh, I meant to bookmark it! And I forgot to do it!

    Kettlebell

Bahahahaha! Get your mind out of the gutter. I honestly didn't mean it that way but re-reading it can see where you got that from! I truly meant, look at how straight his back is. When he says make it like a kitchen table, it's really beautiful form. And the definition of his muscles makes him completely ripped. LOL. Swearsies! No HD here.

    Kettlebell

Wow! Wish I could afford him as a trainer! He looks like he would be a phenomenal trainer! Thanks JJ.
