  1. I'm 5'4", my first goal is 150lbs--my high school weight (although my body comp is dramatically different now than then). My second goal weight is 144lbs--the line where I "magically" cross into normal weight territory. Funny, I used to say, and my mom told me I was big boned and muscular and to pay no attention to the charts that said I was overweight or obese. That kind of cognitive dissonance got me a lifetime invitation to the Obesity Ball. Where I stop after the 144lbs/normal weight range? I don't really know. I will just ride the wave of healthy eating, healthy exercise and strength building, and continually evolving lifestyle modification and see where things shake out. I've no idea how low my weight will go--but at this point as @skinnylife said, I'm focused on health improvements and cancer prevention. (And I'm damn sure not gonna stop this whole process by artificially inflating my nutritional intake and calories while still being in an obese or overweight category! This will end up being the easiest it's ever been to realize normal weight. *laugh* And it's also the hardest thing I've ever done, including fighting cancer with surgeries, super strong chemo and 33 days of radiation.)

    Juice post op?

VSG and RNY surgeries are totes diff on how they handle sugar and how much you can handle without dumping. It's way more rare to dump from VSG--not unheard of--just not as usual...
  3. I hope nothing is intrinsically wrong with the sleeve surgery!! ((hugs)) But the solution of "putting the wine bottle down, getting in more exercise, counting cals better" is not a "simple" solution. Cuz right? If it were "simple" don't you think you would have done it? I truly think you are "not lazy, an epic fail, fill-in-your-loser-adjective-here." I think you are in trouble and need trained help -- emotionally/psychologically/and perhaps physical too. Hang in there and keep fighting for your rights and to be heard!! And come here for all the support you need. We're here--just not skilled to give advice!!!

    Out-of-the-blue disaster

Oh wow. I just read this. I'm so sorry for all of you! ((hugs))
  5. Honestly...you've answered your own question about "why" you haven't lost more. I promise you I know that adding in the wine will dead cold stop you in your tracks and derail you--and if it's true transference/alcoholism--can and will kill you after contributing to massive regain. Please get help?!!! Please. We can't provide the kind of help you need--an addiction specialist and someone very well-versed with bariatrics and food addiction as well. I'm so sorry about your mom and sis. And sorry your doc is an asshat!!
  6. Ok, lol, cuz you know...I'm nothing if not predictable! I'm on the potassium supp, have the carafate liquid on the way, and am back on the horse. I'll continue to focus on potassium-rich foods. Have to retake blood test tomorrow--don't know how to study for it so I hope I do well. I ended up doing about a 16:8 yesterday, and will aim for a 15:9 today, or thereabouts. I will try to do 2 meals + snack (think salad with lots of chard, spinach, kale, fresh beets, mushrooms, purple onion, cucumber, rbp, punkin seeds or pistachios, cannelini beans, and feta). Think it's a shrimp and chicken kinda day. Maybe just shrimp cuz that's what I feel like. I'll probably eat "gobs" of protein--cuz you know, that's how my broom flies. *snort* About 60-75g - you know, GOBS! Weight held at 153.8-154.0 so I guess it's gonna stick. Yay me! It really is a new low. I'll take it! I'd love to be at 1st Goal by end of next week, but know better than to put timeframes to my weight loss. They always end in disastrous self-sabotage. How is everyone doing today? BTW? 16:8 IF is ridiculously easy now...just sayin'...

Congrats!!! Welcome to the losers' bench! (or loosers' bench--hehe)

    Juice post op?

Wow hon. First off, so sorry about the reflux, but so glad you're getting things taken care of and I hope you will feel better quickly! I'm sure VSG to Bypass is way more complicated, so I can't speak for how long you will have to be on liquids. You can look in my day-by-day thread in the My Story area, think it was starting week3 that I went to mushies? No purees for here. But please, please, please, follow your doc's orders. In my opinion, when we think we're smarter than them and do our own thing, it rarely ends well. At least for me! But yeah...if I was gonna follow his "juice" thing, I'd do the sugar free cranberry juice, and flavored waters. I guess he's trying to keep you from bottoming out without sugar, or protein, etc. I'd ask his office if they would allow the Premier Protein Clear Drinks mixed with water??? Or the Isopure clear protein mixed with water. They are palatable if you mix them with a heck of a lot of water!!! Good luck!!!

    Pound of cure

Well, life would be wonderful if we all fit into these little cookie cutter molds that were all exactly the same wouldn't it? It would be so simple...lol. Or would it? We are all so different. Metabolically, even genetically. And they will find out in the relatively near future, why some people tolerate one type of diet while other have issues with it! They've already identified quite a few genes that shows some of this. But the reality is we ALL have to weed our way through the fog to find the diet that doesn't feel like a diet. And my doc doesn't limit any of those things listed above. My RD has made changes to mine based on my personal needs and based on the fact that my fasting insulin continues to be higher than we'd like--even after surgery. So...I just can't handle as large a serving of some of those, nor do I choose to include some of them every day. But I'm low carb (sorta keto by defacto, although i don't eat super high fat) and I still enjoy a variety of whole natural foods including very small (like 1-2tbsp) of whole non-processed grains, berries, winter squash, some root veggies, fruit, nuts, and beans. My diet is 10000% satisfying to me and I just do not feel deprivation at all. But I know for me to keep my bgs and insulin down, I have to limit total load in a meal--luckily my RD works with me to help me figure that out! (That's why it's called personalized medicine...) And as @skinnylife mentions, it simply must fit into my calories and macros for the day. They almost always do. I've been able to lose over 130lbs that way...
  10. I'm gonna tell ya, even if I was eating 6 meals a day, it would be damned difficult to get in 3-4K of potassium through diet alone! I'm stuffed to my gourd with 2 meals that I couldn't finish and only have about 460mg of potassium in from food. I don't know how any of us post RNY can take in enough potassium? Talked to the pharmacist and because of the hbp/the hbp pill and fluid around my heart she does not recommend doing anything other than eating foods rich in potassium until the order for the K-dur is filled. Ugh. The doc/nurse are in surgery and she didn't have time to call in the order yet.

    Food Before and After Photos

More before/afters...I'm just rakin' up the non-clean-plate-statuses today. Yogurt, 2% cottage cheese, mandarin oranges (lite, no sugar added), almonds:
  12. Do you cook in a cast iron pan? I'd cook everything in one if I were you! https://www.nomeatathlete.com/iron-for-vegetarians/ https://academic.oup.com/ajcn/article/78/3/633S/4690005 Also, can you tolerate pate? Especially if you use livers from Whole Foods? I have an awesome recipe for green peppercorn pate that makes getting down chicken liver flat dreamy! Also have a great recipe for authentic "chopped livah" that's absolutely divine especially with the Wasa rye crackers!! Let me know if you want those recipes btw. I'm sure you know all about adding enough things with zinc, vit c, and carotenoids also helps iron absorption? ((hugs)) sweetie! Thanks for telling me about the cream of tartar! I think some of the issue (cuz it hasn't been low until now) is that I'm also having some intestinal disturbance along with the whatever is happening in my gut thing...you know? So I'm sure I'm losing some potassium through um, you know...TMI.
  13. All in the same glass? How much of each por favor!
  14. Ok, now tell us all your other ways to support vits/mins naturally through food stuff rather than vits? Spill it. And we mean, ALL the knowledge... Go.
  15. They had 'em on sale (peeled, deveined, 16/20s for $5.97/lb) and I got a pound to try to make sure I liked em. I grew up eating Gulf shrimp so I didn't really know...but I do like them quite a lot--more lobster/langostino-ish than shrimpy? So next time they are on sale, I'm gonna score a big one! TY for tellin' me about them!
  16. I did a crap ton of walking this weekend too...and the test was on Monday. I thought my muscle cramps were from low magnesium. Derp. And thought my little palpitations were from my low thyroid that I'm being seen for next month. LOL. I'm in danger of having my Jr. Doctor Kildare card yanked! ROFLMFAO!
  17. Whahhhh? NOW ya tell me!!!!! LOL. How come you didn't tell me this??? 🤨🤯 And how does cream of tartar raise your potassium? How do you eat it?

    Food Before and After Photos

I don't often have "afters," but when I do...I post them to document them...all 3 of them. hehe Lunch- Argentine red shrimp (ty @sillykitty), cannellini Beans, red fat feta, pumpkin seeds, super greens (swiss chard, spinach, kale), cucumber, beet root, mushrooms, onion, avocado, grape tomatoes, WF Italian dressing, 1tsp evoo Spanish Olive Oil.
  19. Ha! I bought it cuz of you! I heart it! It was a pretty super combination. Should have made my Dijon garlic vinaigrette but didn't feel like it--it was already complicated enough to put all the parts together. Ha!
  20. So the doc just called from the OR, and her nurse asked me about if I was taking diuretics. I told them I was taking one for the continued borderline high blood pressure and leg swelling. So she said, I need you to go get this script from the pharmacy as soon as possible and start taking it today. I'm like, "Whah???" My potassium is 2.9. And they need me to come retake my blood work on Friday. So no more fasting today for me. Something to consider if you're still on a diuretic and are IFing...you should be very careful about getting bloodwork and checking to be sure your potassium isn't low or super low as this case may be... So while I wait, I went in and made the most potassium dense salad I could think of, but could only get 1/2 of it down. Will have to save the other half and eat it in 2-3 hours. Yeah, shazam! Too bad I don't keep anything but "dense" protein on hand and only pound down crap tons of protein and no veggies. Wah. Wah. Wahhhh. Shame really. LOL. 250mg of potassium salad--keto-friendly and I'll prolly still make my protein window from the doc of 60-80g today. I did have an after, afterall--it's pretty much sitting like a rock in my chest right now. So will walk it off and eat more later. But it was damn tasty! Argentine red shrimp, cannellini beans, red fat feta, pumpkin seeds, super greens (swiss chard, spinach, kale), cucumber, mushroom, beet root, onion, avocado, grape tomatoes, WF Italian dressing, 1tsp evoo Spanish Olive Oil. So dang tasty going down!
