  1. Two days post op and so far the worst part is the severe gas - I've been doing lots of walking, every hour I'm up and gone so hoping gas will calm down.

I had the same experience. I told my friends I felt like a Macy's thanksgiving day parade balloon. My nurse told me the same Apple1 said...walking is the best thing. I had surgery on a Monday and by that Friday I was "gassed out".

  3. First day on full liquids and boy, am I overestimating what I can eat!  It took my almost 2 hours to eat a container of Chobani.  Then, after about 15 minutes I started feeling fuller and fuller and fuller!  I started feeling back to normal late this afternoon so I tried about a third of a cup of soup.  It took relatively no time to realize I'd overdone it again.  Rather than sit and feel bad, I got up and did some work in the garage.  That seems to have helped relieve the pressure a bit.  Any tips from you experienced sleepers for us noobies?  How do I guesstimate how much I can eat?

That's a great idea. I can do that. Thanks for the guidance!

It does get better. I had a couple of key moments where I got angry and depressed and wanted to go to a fast food restaurant and order one of everything on the menu. But somewhere in the frustration my brain told me that I needed to sit with those emotions and push through them. I'm only a week post surgery and I'm learning more and more how difficult this path really is but will be completely worth it.

Apple, that is so helpful! Thanks for responding. I didn't realize the volume was so much smaller than expected. And you're absolutely right about the body cues. I can't yet tell what's hunger versus surgery pain. Thanks again!

It sucks, girlfriend. No pussyfooting around it. And it will suck a few more times until surgery. I can say without reservation it was the hardest thing I've done. Think long term. If you don't power through this, your surgeon can't get to your stomach and you'll have to do it even longer! Keep the faith!

  7. Had my surgery on 8/8. Had a bit of nausea. Started fluids the following afternoon and went home a few hrs later.  Trying to get even sips down hurts the center of my chest. It's getting a little bit better each day.  The weight loss is 8 pre-op and 13 post. Besides g2, water, sugar free ice pops and broth are there any other liquid options?

The only other liquid I'm allowed is Crystal Light.

  8. My surgery was March 29th 2017. Yesterday was 18.5 weeks since surgery and the first time I went shopping. I live life on a budget, so I have been really stretching my clothes through using a belt and wearing some of my mom's clothes so I haven't needed to try on anything new. Honestly, I had no intentions on buying anything, I just wanted to know what size jeans I wore. I used to wear size 17, sometimes even higher depending on the brand. I've been fitting into my size 11's lately but they were getting a little big so I decided I would try on a 10. THEY WERE TOO BIG TOO! I told my best friend to grab me some 8s and I didn't even have to suck it in to fit into them!!! I'm in single digits for the first time since like 6th grade!!! I am so delighted, you guys have no idea. Also, I fit into a Micheal Kors size M work shirt so I just had to buy it! I'm sure even if I hit my goal, I'll be a M, so it was worth spending the money. Plus, it was on sale! HOW EXCITING! I felt so good buttoning those pants. I could have cried. <333

  9. Tomorrow's my surgery day.  God, I hope I can eat the right way and permanently lose this weight.

  11. Day 6 of a 2 week clear liquid diet...this sucks so bad!!  :47_tired_face:   I'm so frustrated and angry and FRUSTRATED!!  I am so hungry and want to eat so bad!  I can have sugar free jello, popsicles and Crystal Light but the artificial sweeteners are just so bad!  I keep telling myself I'm almost half done but honestly it's not helping much.  This better be freaking worth it...👿

Thanks for the suggestions, BIJ. I love mint tea but haven't had it in forever. Not sure what miso is but will google that now. Thanks for hearing me. :)

  12. Hi! My sleeve operation is due 8/9/17. I'm worried about the pre-op diet - even though I haven't yet been given any formal information on it. I know it's probably best to move to a liquid diet asap prior to op to try to limit the shock to the system! I'm hoping to start this the beginning of August so that I get a good 5 weeks in. Anyone else managed this?

Before you go to a clear liquid diet, ask your doctor if / how long you should be on one. Five weeks seems excessively long. This is not a decision to make on your own. It could have serious impacts to your health.

My sleeve surgery is scheduled for 8/7 and I'm on day 4 of a two week long clear liquid diet. To prepare, I had an hour long consultation with my surgeon's dietician as well as received a PDF manual on what I was limited to drink as well as what I needed to intake daily (e.g., 50g protein).

My point being, I've had very specific, detailed instruction on the liquid diet in advance. I would strongly suggest that you have a conversation with your doctor asap on what his/her expectations are for your individual case. This is not something you want to "wing" on your own.

Holler back, Socks, and let me know what he/she says! I'm thinking about you. :)
