Precious17 reacted to OutsideMatchInside in Stomach Stretching is a Myth
Stretching is a myth unless you had a bad surgeon, which from a lot of the posts I read here is seems very possible for a lot of people.
RNY pouches can definitely stretch though. and they can make extended stomachs at the top of the intestine. A properly formed sleeve does not stretch. Healing is not stretching.
My capacity at over 2 years is exactly the same as it was at 6 months. 4 ounces of dense Protein, is the max I can eat comfortably.
That is if I follow my post-op eating instructions which are to eat protein FIRST. If I eat protein alone/first. I can eat 4 ounces maybe 5 if it has more fat, but honestly 5 is uncomfortable. If I eat it alternating bites with veggies I can eat 6 maybe even 8 ounces of protein. Which is why post-op instructions are to eat protein first. If I eat meat with veggies and take sips of Water, I can eat as much as anyone else (because I am turning dense protein into a slider).
If I eat something that is not dense protein, like a burger, I can easily eat a 6 ounce burger with cheese.
If I eat something that breaks down easy like a crispy thin crust pizza, its a slider. I could eat a whole large thin crust pizza in an hour. That is grazing though, so that doesn't count. Eating sliders and grazing are breaking the rules but I could.
What people call stretching is really just bad food choices and poor eating habits. I have never seen anyone say they pounded down a 16 ounce ribeye, except that one dude that claimed he ate like a 20 ounce steak at 6 weeks or something.
Dr Wiener tries to educate people on proper eating habits for life. If you are not eating correctly all the sleeve tightening, and revisions will not save you. People can eat around any surgery. The best thing is to eat properly, in the correct order.
Prior to surgery I would go to Steak N shake and eat a double, a triple and 2 orders of fries. I used to be able to consume massive amounts of food. I really just can't eat like that all, IF I FOLLOW THE RULES. If I don't follow the rules I can totally eat a ton of food. I could easily eat 1/2 a double layer cake if I wanted to, in 30 minutes to an hour, nothing will stop me, it is just mush.
This is why following your post-op eating instructions for the first 6 months are really important. Not only are they a prescription diet to prevent complications but those instructions also re-train you on eating like you are a baby so you can learn new habits. With your surgery restriction, metabolic reset and rapid weight loss as tools and motivators to help you learn and stick to them. When people are a week or two out, sneaking food and talking about their body knows it needs and all that other drama, they are just cheating themselves out of their chance for an easy reset.
And yes it is easy, losing weight immediately after weight loss surgery is the fastest and easy weight loss you are ever going to have in your life and you only get one real chance at it, revisions don't lost as fast as first timers. So don't blow it.

My surgery was 11/5 and I am down 70 lbs. I work out at least 4 days a week. I don't know if there is any "normal" in how much weight a person should lose. I still haven't been able to eat much, its such a hassle to eat, and to find something I will actually like. Still eating lots of yogurt, cheese, and Protein Bars.< /p>

This popped up- I started at 248. I'm now 128. I had a baby in May 2014. I'm currently wearing a size 4/6 in almost everything.

I left because I was bullied and insulted and basically trolled upon. I wonder if others felt the same. [emoji53] there were some bad apples. I'm back because I want to help out newbies, share my experience, and help anyone struggling with maintenance.

This board has been through this before. Generally I take a hiatus and come back periodically. I'm sorry to read that things blew up on highly valued members who gave a lot and have a lot of experience. Hopefully a break will bring them back around.

I left because I got tired of nasty people. I consider forums like I consider personal contacts. I don't choose to hang out with rude people.
i am back. I regained 40 pounds and got disgusted the other day when I saw my reflection in the grocery store sliding door. Victory shall be regained. I will try to be more thick skinned. There are a lot of very sweet people here like proudgrammy.

I managed to get back on tract because I refused to buy new clothes so I was really uncomfortable wearing summer clothes that were 20lbs too small. I made up my mind I had to do it because I worked too hard to mess it up now and besides, I couldn't breathe in those tight shorts. I planned out back to basics low carb meals for the first 2weeks and got rid of stuff I couldn't eat. Writing down what I ate helps too. I'm doing well so far, because I'm having success and it feels good
I need motivation to get back to exercise though. I still haven't made it to the gym though. I wish I could motivate myself to get there.

Precious17. I could use a buddy too. I'm 1 1/2 yr out from a RNY surgery. I had an accident at about 10 months post op and I had to stop all exercise. I wasn't eating the same because I wasn't cooking for myself. Then I got depressed and started making poor choices. So instead of continuing my weight loss I gained 20 lbs. so then I needed to loose 40 pounds to reach goal.
Three weeks ago I finally got control of my food and I've done great loosing 8 pounds. I'm proud of myself but I am having problems with snacking when I'm not hungry and very little exercise. I'd love to support you and I need support around snacking and getting back to an exercise program if you'd like.

I have been absent a long time. I got a sleeve in 2012.. It went great and before the next year I went from 340 to 225.
I did well for quite a while but began regressing to old habits a little at a time. I am now at 260 and I am determined to get back.
My moment of realization came when I was walking into the grocery store and saw this fat guy coming at me in the reflection on the door.
I am back on medications that I had shed before and have much less energy.
    The downward spiral ends now.
i used to be a moderator here and gave many people advice. Now I need to take it myself.
    I will get back!
