I think its a little normal to have a little freakout of omg ... my whole life is going to change. I know when I went into labor with my kids I was a little freaked out about how it was all gonna change .. even though they were planned and very much wanted. Big changes are scary! Also you will eventually be able to eat whatever you want in moderation so don't think about the food youll miss. You can have it ... just enough to be satisfied instead of over indulging. Happy Thanksgiving!

First find the hospitals in your area that do the surgery. They usually have free seminars on what to expect where you can ask questions. If they offer support groups, go to a couple of those also and talk to people there. The surgeons office or hospital can usually help with the insurance part since they deal with it all the time. Good luck. It's a journey.

Today was definitely better than yesterday, and I assume tomorrow will be better than today. The incision pain is th biggest problem I’ve had, I’m doing fine with eating and drinking and have had no nausea.

It was a mini vacation with my best friend....this crazy girl I've known for 40 years. (we met the first day of first grade..we talk damned near every day and see each other once a week)
We took a few days to go see some haunted houses and House on the Rock in Wisconsin.
House on the Rock is impossible to describe. It's sort of like witnessing a museum, obsessive freak show collector, hoarder, steam punk enthusiast, tree house, the worlds biggest carousel and doll collection....and Japanese garden....all at the same time. It's an amazing place, but to really enjoy it, you have to be kinda artsy and half nuts.....which is why my friend and I were thrilled out of our socks. Takes all day to see everything and you still feel like you haven't scratched the surface. Don't go if you're afraid of heights.
The haunted house in Chicago was excellent....the Chicago traffic wasn't. This is an annual trip for us, and we had a blast.
My bestie got me a Fitbit for my birthday this year, and we've been doing step competitions and cooking each other healthy meals....has been really nice to have someone so actively in my corner. Love that girl.

I find that I get that question a lot as well, when I was getting my EGD for surgery the nurse said wow, why are you getting wls? You don't look big enough! All I said was I'm doing it for health reasons. I'm like you, I really don't know how to respond sometimes. Hopefully our friends here have some suggestions!!!

Hi there, I'm still pre op but one thing I have learned on this site is you definitely need to urinate more than once a day so you might have to go and get iv fluids. I would call your surgeon and speak with them asap... hoping you feel better really soon! Keep us updated on how your doing.

I don't know you guys of course, but I know that a lot of times a big part of a relationship is being fat together. Not only will your eating habits totally change, your body will too. He might think that you won't be attracted to him anymore when you shrink, and he might miss the times you share together with food as the center point. He could be feeling negatively judged by you--not that you're doing that--but you're judging being obese as bad (since you're getting the surgery), and therefore he might feel like you think HE is bad now. He also may not want to deal with his own issues with weight, but feels like he has to now.
If it were me, I would reassure him that though your habits might change some you will still love him no matter what. Let him know that you doing this doesn't change your opinion of him, and he doesn't need to do anything differently. Sometimes they just need some reassurance and validation, being obese is such a mental game!

This is a tricky one that keeps coming up for me.....friends, family and acquaintances who are heavier people insist that I'm not big enough for weight loss surgery, and almost get mad and take it personally. Like....Hmmm, if she thinks she's so big she needs to do that, she must think I'm outrageously big, too. And they get angry and seem really insulted. Why would you do that? You're not that big!
This is a weird question, but is it better to address it and say.....I'm not judging your choice to be heavy, I love you just the way you are........or is it better to just say....well, my doctor thinks I'm heavy enough and has been asking me to consider this for years. Both kinda fall flat of the diplomacy i'm looking for.
How do I defend my choice without making other heavier people feel criticized? I really don't WANT others to feel hurt by my choice, or feel I'm viewing them critically. Any ideas?

Just had surgery yesterday (10/24/17). In fact still in my hospital room waiting to.be discharged. The best way to describe the pain is: I feel like I did waay too many sit.ups and crunches at the gym. Abdomen is sore, but it is bearable.

I was in a size 20-22 pants on day of surgery, (220lbs), size 1x tops.
Now, at 135lbs I wear a size 6 -8, ( depends on the brand) in pants and slacks, (size 4 in Old Navy Jeans). I wear a small in tops and sweaters. Belts: I fond this to be the most amazing regarding my size shrinkage- I went from not being able to find a belt that fits, to now getting small ones, 28 inches. Blows my mind.
Shoes: was a 9.5 wide, now a 9 regular. Ring sizes shrank from 9.5 to 8. Hmmmm, I guess I better ask my husband for a new ring for xmas

Holy hell holiday treats at work season!
Temptations are reality anywhere you go. You can't control what foods are around you. You can control what you decided to eat. Yes, bring your own food and snack items to work.
    Sweet tooth Snacks -
Fresh strawberries dipped in hershey's sugar free Syrup.
    Protein pumpkin pie mousse:
Sugarfree vanilla pudding, pumpkin puree, vanilla Protein Powder, cinnamon and allspice
    Quest bar cookies:
Preheat oven to 325F (163C). Cut the Quest bar into 8 pieces. Place the pieces on a parchment-lined cookie sheet. Bake for 3 minutes, then flatten the Cookies. Bake 3 minutes more. Let cool slightly, and enjoy!

It would be nice to not have to count and plan.. and if we could still eat 20 cups of food a day, then maybe we would have that luxury. But, here we are, having to meet a zillion different nutritional needs into 3-5 cups of food. Heck yeah we have to plan!
My hubby, with his normal-sized stomach, can easily eat 2 cups (4 servings) of Beans, PLUS a nice hunk of whole wheat bread, PLUS a side of baked apples, all in one sitting. Then he can eat 2+ more times during the day. He has the LUXURY of spreading his nutrients out into massive quantities of food, and it's nearly impossible for him to not meet his Protein needs (the above meal has 34g, right there).
But I'm not him. I don't have a normal sized stomach any more, and if I ate the given meal, it would take all day, and I wouldn't have room for anything else. And I would only consume 34g for the whole day, which would leave me deficient.
But this was my choice.. I'm exchanging a future of diabetes (and having to count blood sugar readings several times a day) for counting my protein.
