1. I've been to three celebrations where cakes were served post op. I've posted this before, I don't enjoy food. Pre op food and I were the best of friends. I have no desire to eat anything much less sweets. For me it's a very strange feeling since i always wanted and did indulge in food. To those who still crave the sweets and fight the temptations I salute you. I don't know if I could be as successful as you if I still had those cravings.

I pray that I have your experience post-op.

I find that I get that question a lot as well, when I was getting my EGD for surgery the nurse said wow, why are you getting wls? You don't look big enough! All I said was I'm doing it for health reasons. I'm like you, I really don't know how to respond sometimes. Hopefully our friends here have some suggestions!!!

Like needing to loose nearly 100 pounds isn't enough??? My daughter (who is large) said that to me. I replied, "My BMI is 40 and i'm having health complications."

3. Mmmm ... I was not so disciplined.
On Sunday night, one of my long-time friends turned up with his wife, his birthday cake and a tub of ice-cream.
He cut everyone a piece of cake and dished it up with a scoop of ice-cream.
I had two teaspoons of cake and about a half scoop of ice-cream and explained that I was not going to attempt to eat more.
Said to my wife later that a real test would have been to not have eaten any.

Power to you, I AM WORTH IT.

Oh, I don't know about that. You did good. Sometimes having just a little is harder than having none. Remember the old Lays potatoe chip commercial? "You can't have just one?". It's true.
And I celebrated that success because i struggle and I'm not always successful.

4. I am pre-op, but not the liquid phase yet...I'm just trying to keep it under 1200 calories. I will be praying this week (Thanksgiving week) for those of you on liquids prior to surgery, for those who recently had surgery and are on a restricted phase and even those who are post op who eat what they want... the most dangerous phase. The struggle is real. God bless us all.

5. I have a funny story (well, funny NOW) about boots. In 2007, I went to Italy. This was way before surgery and weight loss. And what did I want? A pair of hot Italian boots, of course! We were in Rome and I drug my poor friends all over Rome in search of a pair of boots that would actually go over my calves. By the 10th store, seemingly miles of wandering, and many eye rolls from store sales people, I finally found ONE damn pair of boots which were really cute and had a bit of stretch quality to them. They were still snug on me but I was determined! I wore them throughout Italy despite that fact I was getting blisters and sore from the snug fit!
I had to write that to give you a glimpse into the future. I can now wear any style of boots and the calves are either perfect or too big! I even wear boots with heels!
Edited to add: I still have my Rome boots. They were made remarkably well so I cant part with them!

Great story! I'm so glad that you still have the boots. So many thing to look forward to.

Waist should be less than 1/2 height.

Have lost 3-4 inches off my calves (this is actually a ton).

I did not know that about the height/weight ratio. Good to know.

And wow on the calves! I'd love to be able to wear tall boots without endlessly searching for the extended calves.

7. After reading this thread i decided to take my 'before' pictures. I did it this morning even though i have over a month to go before surgery. (I was wearing a pretty bra and underwear set, so I figured it was a good day to do it).

I read on these threads that someone said that we often don't see our own obesity. Well, I am one of those! I was shocked by what I saw, especially on my back side picture. WOW.

I will do another set of before pictures with more clothing soon (maybe leggings and a tank) so that I can share one day with others.

How often did you all do progress pics?

And I will be saving one pair of jeans to compare later when I need motivated.
