My surgery isn't until the 24th of this month however the more I read the more I am seeing that most people experience extreme nausea after surgery. How long does this usually last if its true and is there anything they can give you? I have heard this is the worst part of the surgery is the nausea?

I took Emend the night before surgery, got a patch the morning of surgery and am taking zofran for 8 days post-op. Even with all that the second and third days were horrible. I would even get woken up from sleep with nausea. The fourth day was tons better and it' been better each day. It wasn't my main focus since the fourth day.

I'm one week out and two medicine cups and I'm full! It takes me all day to get 30 ounces of Protein drink in. I have a very hard time with Water I don't like it much. I do crystal lite. Protein drinks are not my fav. I drink 1/2 cup of beef broth for something different. That takes me a while but goes down better.

I'm with you. One week out today and having the same issues. The warm broth does go down much better.

Are you referring to the girl running towards the cactus? It's a ticker. You can add one by going up to the top left...where you edit your profile. If you can't find it let me know and I can write the steps. On my phone now so I can't do it. Have to do it on my computer.

I was thinking of you oddly enough when I woke up yes I'm feeling much better not 100% but I'm feeling much better than yesterday the nausea is still here but it's slowed down greatly. I am having stomach spazzing but not as frequently which is a plus I'm praying for a speedy recovery

Yay! We're on the mend. So good to know we made it through yesterday and that was the toughest day. I'll take baby steps just as long as each day is a bit easier. That full blown nausea was seriously the worst!

I wish I would at least have that option at least I'm going to the pharmacy tomorrow to see if they have something that's over the counter they need a get better quick over the counter lol

You could also try your primary care doctor. You just don't want to get dehydrated and wind up at the emergency room.

My doctor didn't want to prescribe me something for nausea but I definitely need it I'm barely able to drink or anything and I don't want to get sick bc I'm not able to keep anything down I had a few sips of breath and a little cranberry juice as well as 2 sips of my Protein drink which is extremely gross ugh I hope it gets better. Do you still have a lot of air in your stomach ? Mine is so puffy right now

Yes, still lots of air. I can't imagine trying to make it through without the nausea medicine. It's hard to get anything down even with the meds. I'm just going to focus on me this weekend. sleep, eat, drink whenever I want and not beat myself up about anything.

Had my sleeve done 10/4 and I'm feeling horrid I'm so nauseous and I can't keep anything down I did switch to the liquid pain meds but I keep throwing that up as well did anyone have anything like this ? All comments are appreciated

OMG, I had mine done 10/4. The nausea is insane. I can tell though that it's slightly better this afternoon. It's taken me all day but I got one Protein Drink in and 8 oz of Water so far. I'm taking Zofran every 6 hours. It seems to last 3. The nausea actually woke me up from sleeping last night. I figure it's baby steps. My doctor prescribed 7 days of Zofran for nausea so I figure it should be gone within a week?

Morning all! Was sleeved at 1pm yesterday, it's now 5am the following day and I'm feeling great! Still have a little bit of gas pain which is easing with every walk I do. Hitting good fluid goals and peeing like a champion. Still have my pca which will be taken down today and then home on Friday!Good luck to all the flow October sleeves! What exciting adventures we have to look forward to!

I was sleeved at 1pm on Wednesday. Great experience. No nausea or pain except when drinking - hard to get the fluids in. Was sent home yesterday (POD 1) and that's when the nausea hit - on the ride home. That was followed by pain when I got home. Rough day yesterday, but feeling much better this morning. Hoping for a good day. Think my reserves were just low yesterday. We can do this!

Thanks so much mzsantiago88. I just worry since I am prescribed suboxone from a different dr he'll think it's odd. I never abused pain pills - I was prescribed them til, well, I was not. I got sick from the sudden stop and I've been on suboxone ever since. It's fine w surgeon... I just don't know how tough the psych evaluations are :/

I can only speak for my psych eval. I took a bunch of tests about different food situations. The psych then summarized a d told me what behaviors I had to focus on so I wouldt fail afterwards. It was good feedback.

Hi there my date is the 3rd, I'm on my pre op diet and struggling, I hope your goes better it's day 4 that I hit a low point.

I hit my low on day 3. Headache and starving. Wound up eating more Protein and made it through. Today is day 7 and I think I'm getting sick. Aches all over, sore throat and freezing. All I want is hot tea. I hate tea, never been my thing so that's weird. The thought of drinking a Protein Shake makes me nauseous. So Lind of a blessing. Just hoping I'm all better before the surgery.

Mine is in 7 days. October 2,2017. I'm getting very nervous every lol and reading everything I can. I am on the 2 week liquid diet and what I am worried about is that I a leaving on a business trip to California today. I bought the powders you mix and hope they will be enough to keep the cravings down. So far I have been doing good. I did slip up early in when friends were over but I stuck to Protein food, no carbs. I have lost 16 pounds in just over a week of the pre op diet.

I slipped on day 3 and ate extra Protein. I felt guilty. Isn't it crazy what we consider a slip now vs before? Lol!

I'm on my prep diet day 4 I'm allowed one meal and 2 shakes a day. I almost feel like it would be easier if I was doing just shakes. I'm struggling today! Any advice?

I have the same pre-op diet. Day 4 of 2 weeks was yesterday for me. I have a shake for Breakfast and a shake for lunch, then 3 to 4 oz of lean Protein for dinner with a cup of fruit and 1 to 2 cups of salad veggies. I'm a meat eater so I've skipped the fruit and eaten more meat. I cheated on Friday cause I had a bunch of steak and then leftover chicken parm. I felt horrible that I fell off the wagon on day 3. But you know what...i still lost weight. Yesterday was easy cause I was still full and today is ok. I wasn't even tempted by bacon my husband made. I decided if I couldn't stay on the diet again then I'd cheat with increased protein. Probably not a good thing to do but it's reality and better than binging on carbs. Plus we have just over a week to go until the surgery.

October 4th too! Supposed to start the pre-op on the 20/9.....but I currently have a delightful bout of gastro. An excellent weight loss tool......no desire to eat, poop everything out, lose all the weight. If only it was always so easy!

We're sleeve sisters! I wish I had no desire to eat. I'm HUNGRY! Day 3 of the pre-op diet and I've had a headache since yesterday. Regardless, I can't wait for the 4th!

Hey everyone!! I go in on October 5th!! I just started my 2 week pre-op diet, have a nice nasty Headache, excited, scared, nervous, sooooo many different emotions!! I hope you're all doing better than I am! I'll be honest though, I have ZERO support at home, which makes this very difficult. But it's for Me. It's My desicion, and I need to make a change for ME!! For my life. For my children!! I hope and pray that the rest of you have the support you need. If not, I'll be here for you!! 😊

Yes, that headache! I started my pre-op diet on Wednesday so this is day 3. My surgery is October 4th. Cheers to us! My hubby is very supportive and I'm here for you if you want.

I was told due to ketosis or hormones that we produce a different smell after surgery and that it goes away after a bit. I will try to bump the post for you

Ok, that makes sense. I've heard your stomach makes loud noises all the time. Nothing yet to deter my from surgery on October 4th. Not even the headache I'm getting from the pre-op diet or the discovery that I'm not living the Protein Shakes as much as I did before (But still have the rest of the case to get through).

I had a question for the WLS vets and anyone who has had it done recently. Are there any "surprises" I should know about before I have my surgery? I had never heard about it leaving you with a new smell, that was surprising to find out. I have heard about the possibility of sagging skin and hair loss, those worry me but I know they can be dealt with. Is there anything else? Are there foods I should avoid (other than the unhealthy stuff) or any tips or tricks you can offer?

What's this about a new smell? This is the first time I've heard that. I hope it's a good smell.

How long did it take the doctors office to give you a surgery date after you were approved? I am still waiting on a date and was approved last Thursday!

I called my insurance and found out I was approved on a Friday. I then called and emailed my doctor's office over the course of the following week and finally got a reply after emailing the doctor himself. The surgery date was given to me the following Monday. So 9 days later.
