January 2018 Sleevers HERE
Hi! My name is Maggie. I had my sleeve surgery on 1/2/18. When I had my first appointment with my doctor I weighed 209. Then, in the months leading up to an actual surgery date, I blew it because I thought I would lose too much before I got a surgery date and then would no longer qualify for the surgery. When I was finally given a surgery date on December 14, 2017, I weighed in at 229. My nutritionist told me I had to do a THREE WEEK liquid diet! Over the holidays no less! Well, in that three weeks, I was able to drop back down to 209 on my surgery date! Yay me! I woke up in the recovery room thinking “what the f—- did I just do?” I was in a lot of pain. I only spent overnight in the hospital and despite the pain, I walked as soon as they took me up to my hospital room. The nurses were amazed that I was up and walking so soon. I have had a few days where I throw up, but I am almost certain it’s because I need to slow down when eating - I tend to eat way too fast. By January 21 I was down to 195.2, then I hit the dreaded stall. I have remained at 195.2 since then. I walk about 1 3/4 miles three days a week. I have autoimmune issues including lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, and fibromyalgia. Today, I kicked it up a notch and walked 2 1/2 miles. My left hip is screaming tonight. I think I will skip the walk tomorrow and resume on Wednesday. Stay strong peeps!!!!! We’ve got this!

Cold food
What about a coffee warmer? You can put your food in a ramekin about the size of a coffee cup. After all, you really can’t eat more food than would fit in a small ramekin. [emoji6]

I’m HUNGRY
I’m 17 days post-op and can have soft foods including chili.....the beans have lots of protein and are easy to chew - I include black beans and dark and light kidney beans in my chili, as well as hamburger. I also make chicken and tuna salad with low-fat mayonnaise, salmon (one of my favorites), soups, scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, meatballs, stuffed peppers, etc., etc. I haven’t had a problem meeting my protein goals at this stage, although I do need to work on my fluid intake.

I think something is wrong...
I just had surgery on January 2 and I have thrown up maybe three times. In retrospect, I believe the reason I threw up was because I was eating too fast. Make sure you are chewing thoroughly (my program said at least 32 times for meats) and set a timer for at least 20 minutes - it should take you that long to eat about 1/4 cup. Good luck!

Anyone interested in finding local pals?
Hey! I live in Catasauqua! We’re almost neighbors! Where did you have your surgery? I had mine at St Luke’s.

Vomiting soft foods
It is a narrowing in the sleeve that prevents food to pass normally through your digestive system.

Pre op weight gain
Although I really didn’t have any “food funerals”, I was worried in The months leading up to surgery that I would no longer qualify for surgery because of a lower BMI. At my very first visit to the weight management center I weighed in at 209 (around May or June 2017). Then, on December 15, 2017 I weighed in at 229! Needless to say the nutritionist was freaking out and told me I immediately needed to start a pre-op liquid diet. I did so grudgingly, knowing that Christmas and New Year’s was going to be very depressing! I. The end, though, on surgery day (January 2, 2018) I weighed in at 209. Today (1/15/18), I weigh 198.6. You shouldn’t have a problem losing 5 pounds I a week if you do a pre-op liquid diet and follow the plan to a “T”. Good luck to you!

Has Anyone Cheated On Their Post-Op Diet?
Oh my gosh! I had the same issue with Stove Top stuffing! I thought if I added some unflavored protein powder it would be okay, but I learned my lesson!
