I was only 4 years old...

Zleng, you have already made a brave decision regarding your health by scheduling this surgery. I have never been a small person myself and have tried all diets known to google with yo yo success. I was sleeved 14 days ago and feel this has been the best decision. I am just now starting to lose a bit of weight and I am happy. I feel full with a shake! James is very right about caffeine. I used to drink 5-6 cups of hot black tea daily. I stopped that cold turkey when I started the preop diet. I wish I had slowly weaned myself off because I was so tired and sluggish. I am fine now. Wish you well in your journey. We are all here because of the same struggle.

    Struggling with Pre-Op Diet

Gnat, you are not alone in this struggle. Most of us struggle everyday with our relationships with food. I am 14 days post op. I will say the preop diet was a big challenge mentally and physically. Post op is a bit better because the shakes actually fill you up. I start purée today and I have never been happy looking forward to a scrambled egg...lol. It might sound cliche but just hang in there one day at a time. You can do it!! Wish you well in your journey.

Is Gastric Sleeve so much worse than csection?

C section was more painful for me. Sleeve was uncomfortable soon after the op. 13 days post op and I feel totally fine. With the section it took about 6 weeks to get back to "normal"

BEING SLEEVED NEXT MONTH.. SO NERVOUS

Every surgery or medical procedure (including tooth extractions) has potential risks. However, this surgery has become so safe over the last several years. I think it is normal and healthy to ask yourself questions. For me this has been one of the best decisions I have ever made.

    2nd Day Post-Op

You are so right. That was the worst pain and didn't mentally prepare myself for that level of pain. I am 11 days post op. Mine got better on day 2-3. There is no shortcut except walking. Sounds unhelpful when you are in that much pain but it will go away. I promise you. That is why I feel mad when I hear someone say bariatric surgery is " the easy way out." It is not easy at all!
  8. You can do it Terri. I am 1 week post op. I had to do preop for 2 weeks and I was so hungry I thought I was going to eat my children. It will pass. Just make sure you keep your total fluid intake up so as not to get dehydrated. You will not starve but you could get easily dehydrated if you don't drink enough.

How much leave time are you taking?

I think I got used to the preop very low calorie diet so I am not weak. I will admit that ,y only diagnosis is obesity. Understandably you might need more time off considering the other diagnoses you have. Listen to your body and mind before you go back to work.

How much leave time are you taking?

Sleeved Friday July 28th and was back at work on Monday....by choice. I have a medical deskish job. I wanted to be sitting up drinking and walk every 1 hour within the office. So far no problems.

    Not telling Mom/some others....opinions

Joann454, you are right. I have seen those threads too. I personally respect people who choose to share and people who chose to keep their medical history private. It's a choice.

    Not telling Mom/some others....opinions

Sassy Sleeve you have nailed it! It is private and not a secret. I also chose to keep it private. I had coworker who was diagnosed with cancer a few years ago. She went through treatment and started wearing wigs. I work in healthcare and we could tell she was going through chemo. She never told us explicitly and we respected her choice. We were there to cover her shifts when she needed time off but we did not expect her to tell us what she was battling. It is her body, her struggle. That's the way I feel about my gastric sleeve.

    Not telling Mom/some others....opinions

Sleeved 5 days ago and only my husband knows. When I was on the preop diet, coworkers were giving me unsolicited opinions daily. I told them I was trying the keto diet. Well, did I get lectured or what about why and what I was doing was wrong. Everybody suddenly became a diet expert. It made me realize I made the best decision by not telling them about the surgery. I would have had to endure lifetime lectures from them. Never mind that some of them could use this surgery too.

How soon were you able to drive?

I am 5 days post op. Started driving after 3 days with no problems at all.

Weight Loss Surgery? No health Issues

I was sleeved on July 28, 2017. 5'4 and 233lbs. My major health problem was obesity. Other than that, I have no high BP, no cholesterol issues, no type 2. However, I knew if I didn't do this now, it was a matter of time before I had other health problems. Carrying that much weight around would ultimately cause me major problems. I am day 5 and back at work.

JULY SLEEVERS- How are you doing?

Sorry to hear you are having a rough patch. I was sleeved on the same date as you. I had terrible nausea too the first 2 days. Yesterday and today it seems to have resolved. Hope the BP and nosebleeds have been checked by the doctor. I sure do hope you settle soon.

    Nurse After WSL?

Cherry you will be fine. I got sleeved July the 28th so I am a newbie. However, I have worked with over 10 sleeved nurses over a number of years and they were all fine. Worked with no restrictions. I only know one bypass who had major issues but she had other health problems before and I think the surgery made some of these issues worse.

    Let's get sleeved!!!

Thank you girls. Got sleeved. Everything went well but I underestimated the diaphragm pain for the gas post surgery. I was in so much pain and even cried. The worst of it lasted a couple of hours. Today I am much better. Nauseated but they are giving me meds.

    Incision

Sleeves, I think this is normal. I am getting sleeved on July the 28th. My last preop appointment, the doctor told me to expect a "pulling" at the site they take the stomach out of. As a clinician myself, if you have no sings and symptoms infection, you should be fine.
