    Low Key about Surgery

Your body , your choice. Do you first!
  2. You almost get emotional and teary eyed when it happens. You feel like giving an acceptance speech!
  3. The end of a marriage is often very saddening and can be devastating to some. For me, when I was obese, I had major (still have to some degree) body image issues. Since being sleeved and accompanying weight loss, I am as horny as horny could be. When I say , " I should have had this surgery sooner," my husband always adds, "Oh yeah, this should have been done 2 years ago." I say that because of the health benefits and him for sexual reasons. This surgery has brought intimacy back to our honeymoon stages. I hope we stay that way because I intend to grow old with him. Farting and all.

    Pre Op Diet Nightmare

I would say the preop diet was the hardest part of the sleeve journey for me. However, it has been worth the struggle. It does get better after about 3-5 days when your body goes into ketosis.

    Can we have Splenda?

Splenda was recommended by my dietitian.
  7. I think the challenges you have looking after your loved ones should be the reason for looking into getting the surgery. They need you and you cannot be there for them if you start having obesity related illnesses. Obviously it will be a lot harder for you to go through the process with so much on your hands. Talk to a bariatric doctor and see how you go.

    Thinking About Gastric Sleeve

I was sleeved July 2017 and weighed 233lbs then. I had been through every diet known to google and I would lose a bit of weight, plateau then gain the weight back and more. I am a health professional myself and know that every surgery has risks. However, there has been a lot of research and improvements done such that bariatric surgery is now a very safe procedure. Complications still happen to some but the risks have been significantly lowered over the years. I am one of those people who had zero complications. The surgery is one of the best decisions I made for myself and my health. I have lost close to 60lbs now, eat well and exercise regularly. I am now more positive, confident and generally relaxed. Hope you make the right decision for yourself and your health.

What Iron dosage do you take?

I had the sleeve and currently I just take the bariatric multivitamin twice daily. My last iron levels were slightly low. Will have more tests closer to my next appointment and the doctor said if I am lower, I might need an iron supplement.

4 month Post Op at a Stall

I was sleeved July 28, 2017. I lost a lot of weight in the first few months and stalled for 6 weeks from about end of November to first week of January then I have started weekly. For 6 weeks the scale did not move an ounce. Your body is adjusting and you will start losing again. I am now losing at a slower pace than in the beginning, which is understandable, but I am very happy with the loss. I agree with Creekimp13 that too few calories sloes you down too. I increased my protein intake from 70-80 to 80-90 grams per day mainly aiming for the 90. Don't stress, you will start losing again.

How long were you off work post-op?

I have a deskish job and I took 3 days off. Ended up working 3 days then took another 3 off. In hindsight, I should have taken 2 weeks off. I was weak and tired from the shakes only for 2 weeks post-op. Given I had ready done another 2 weeks preop on shakes and veges only. I would say at least 2 weeks off but if you can get more why not.

What lunch looks like- 6weeks 2 days post op

If you are not having shakes then that's very reasonable. I couldn't have eaten this 6 weeks post op but I was still supplementing with 2 shakes per day. Being your only source of nutrition, that should make you meet your intake goals I think.

    Halitosis (Bad Breath)

You go girls! Stink away to better health! This shall pass !
  16. Her taste might change too. After going through the preop sleeve and post op diets, I tried to eat something sweet 2 months post op and I couldn't get past the taste. It was overwhelmingly sweet and had to spit it out. I no longer enjoy sweets. That could happen to her. However, if that doesn't happen, she might need to work on the cravings and appreciate the benefits of the surgery with regards to her overall wellbeing. Most of us here have had to let go of our past comfort foods. It is not easy but doable. Good luck on your surgeries.

    No caffeine? Ever?

I was told not to have caffeinated drinks in the early stages due to risk of dehydration. Now I have 2 cups of tea and the RD says it's perfectly fine as long as I make sure at least 1.5L of my daily fluid intake is plain water. Sleeved July 2017.

The Fat Prom...ok, they don't really call it that

My program doesn't have one but that sounds like so much fun and an excellent way of celebrating your hard work.

    Tired?

It does get better. I am almost 6 months post-op. The calorie intake made me so weak the first few weeks. I started feeling more energetic when I got to the soft foods phase.

JULY SLEEVERS- How are you doing?

There you go! You are still determined to reach goal weight and you will. Stress throws us off but keep pressing with your renewed hope. I sincerely hope things work out for you. We have already come so far by having the surgery. Keep your head up high!

JULY SLEEVERS- How are you doing?

Woodside, I was worried about that too. The scale did not move for 6 solid weeks no matter how much harder I worked out. Even though I have heard about these stalls, I just thought 6 weeks is too long, maybe that's it. My dietitian told me not to worry but I worried anyway. Happy to see the scale finally moving again.

JULY SLEEVERS- How are you doing?

Down 52lbs. I feel the best I have felt in many years. I have had no hair loss. I am just now getting over a 6 week stall. Lost 4lbs since just before Christmas and now. I was worried I had stopped losing. I was doing intensive exercise from beginning of October to end of November. Now I just waking about 5miles 4 times a week. Drinking lots of water. Hoping to lose another 30 lbs. I just feel so good overall. This surgery has been a blessing in my life.

    Any regrets??

I have never regretted my decision. Sleeved 28 July 2027. Toughest time was the preop diet. I have had a complication free recovery and transitioned through diet phases moderately easily. Had a period where I just couldn't eat much due to completely being turned off food. All good down. I am still earring what I can eat or not eat. My stomach tells me very quickly if u eat something that I am no longer able to tolerate. Chinese food for example.
